A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her parents after their bodies were found in their bungalow home.

The bodies of the couple, named locally as Arthur and Joan Toop, were discovered shortly after 9pm on Friday.

Police found their daughter, Susan Toop, 52, who lived with the elderly couple, at the Bournemouth, Dorset, home with serious injuries. She is now under police guard in hospital.

Neighbours said that Susan Toop, worked as a nurse at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Her mother, who was in her 70s, found it difficult to walk while Mr Toop – who was known as Bob and aged in his 80s – had recently had heart surgery.

A woman neighbour said: "I often saw Bob outside tending to his garden or walking the dogs. They had wonderful hanging baskets up in the summer.

"He was a lovely dear old gentleman and I would quite often pass the time of day with him.

"His wife was very reclusive and I hardly ever saw her.”

The police have not yet named anyone involved in the incident, and formal identification has yet to take place.

No details of how the couple died have yet been released by the police.

Officers went to the premises following calls from concerned friends and neighbours.

A Dorset police spokesman said today detectives were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out by a Home office pathologist at Dorset County Hospital today.
