Otis Ferry, pro-hunting campaigner and son of 1970s pop heartthrob Bryan, will spend Christmas in jail after a judge denied his application for bail today.
The son of the Roxy Music lead singer is charged with assault, robbery and two counts of perverting the course of justice. He will stand trial in March for allegedly accosting a hunt monitor as she filmed him, and then approaching a witness.
Mr Ferry, 25, has been imprisoned since September, when his trial was delayed due to allegations that he had tried to nobble a witness.
A lawyer acting on behalf of Mr Ferry, who attended Marlborough College and Eton, has made numerous applications for bail despite his client claiming that life in prison was easy.
In a letter to Horn & Hound magazine, he wrote: “Contrary to popular belief, prison life is not tough, and in this namby-pamby society we even get our own televisions, although I have quickly realised that watching it is quite a punishment in itself.”
Mr Ferry has been held on remand at HMP Gloucester for three months and is now likely to remain behind bars until his trial at Gloucester Crown Court on March 9.
He denies attacking a hunt monitor and robbing another of a camera when they tried to film him at an event hosted by the Heythrop Hunt, who have been pursuing foxes since 1835.
The original robbery and assault trial failed to get off the ground in September when allegations of witness nobbling emerged. He was subsequently charged with two counts of perverting the course of justice.
It is alleged he approached a witness - former groomsman David Hodgkiss - involved in the robbery and assault allegations.
Mr Ferry’s girlfriend Francessca Nimmo, a student at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, was also recently arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
The 22-year-old was held by Gloucestershire Police at her home in Lower Bodington, Northamptonshire, last month.
Adrian Simpson, 53, a Countryside Alliance official, was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Ms Nimmo and Mr Simpson have both been granted bail until January 28.
