OVERARCHING ADMISSIONS PRINCIPLES
I would draw your attention firstly to our overarching admissions principles, which underpin the more detailed policies and processes and our selection decisions. We are seeking to admit the very best students from a wide range of backgrounds, to place achievement in context and to maintain a diverse student population. Full information on these principles is linked from:
http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergraduate/applications-admissions/principles
ADMISSIONS PRINCIPLES, SELECTOR GUIDANCE AND APPLICANT BACKGROUND
More specific admissions principles documents, including information on holistic assessment of applications and consideration of applicant background:

LLB Law programmes (Scots Law) http://www.hss.ed.ac.uk/Undergraduate/LLB.htm

BVM&S Veterinary Medicine
and
MA(Hons) Geography http://www.scieng.ed.ac.uk/Undergraduate/MA-GEOG-2008.pdf
Many of these are also linked from:
http://www.sra.ed.ac.uk/admissions/
I am pleased also to attach some of the information you requested relating to guidance provided to admissions selectors for programmes in the College of Humanities and Social Science, and specific information on interview/auditions for Education, Music and Veterinary Medicine programmes. You will notice however that parts of the documents have been blacked out. This is because, although the University holds all the information you requested, I cannot supply you with all of it, as part of it relates to interview questions that candidates are not intended to have sight of in advance. Release of these would prejudice the effective conduct of interviews or auditions. The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 does not require us to provide this sort of information as it is exempt under section 30(c).
AVERAGE OFFERS OF A LEVEL GRADES
If an applicant, not yet having achieved the minimum academic requirement for consideration for their chosen degree programme as stated in the undergraduate prospectus, is selected for an offer then the offer will be conditional on achieving the advertised minimum. As we do not make decisions based on grades alone, we do not hold information on “going rates” for each programme in terms of SQA or GCE grades. A large minority of our undergraduate applicants offer GCE A Levels and for the vast majority of programmes the minimum A Level requirement is currently BBB. Details of the academic requirements for each programme are in our undergraduate prospectus:
http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergraduate
RESTRICTIONS ON GCE ADVANCED LEVEL SUBJECTS
The following webpage details SQA Higher and GCE A Level subjects that have been agreed as acceptable for entry by all three of the University’s Colleges:
