A primary school teacher who starred in pornographic films in his spare time has been found guilty of unprofessional conduct.
Andrew Beasley, a class teacher at Ripple Junior School in Barking, Essex, appeared in “television programmes and films of a sexual nature” over a period of 15 months.
The General Teaching Council (GTC) gave Mr Beasley an official reprimand and said he had brought the teaching profession into disrepute.
“Although Mr Beasley’s conduct occurred outside school hours in his own time, away from school premises and with no remuneration, we consider that his involvement in these films brought the profession into disrepute,” it said.
The reprimand will remain on Mr Beasley’s teaching record for two years and could jeopardise his future applications for employment.
The GTC is consulting on a new code of conduct governing teacher behaviour outside of school. Currently those who drink heavily and disgrace themselves – even outside school hours – face disciplinary action for bringing the profession into disrepute, whether or not they have broken the law. The draft code says that teachers must demonstrate exemplary standards of honesty and integrity, and uphold public trust and confidence in the teaching profession.
This includes teachers “maintaining standards of behaviour both inside and outside school that are appropriate given their membership of an important and responsible profession”.

Wow. I'm his previous student from 2004 and I never expected anything like this - he didn't seem the kind! But I don't think it should have been blown so out of proportion..I doubt it affected any of his teachings and he should have just been privately cautioned in my opinion. But they disagree.

Does this mean there's a vacancy going?

Although working part time in the porn industry is strictly speaking unrelated to his full time job as a teacher, any reasonable parent will surely be seriously concerned about this teacher's ability to be a good role model for his students. P.S.The Latin term for 'legal standing' is 'locus standi'.

Does the draft 'Code of Conduct' form part of teachers' contracts of employment?
You can almost sense the day approaching when people will overthrow this government as a result of these politically appointed apparatchiks 'leading beyond authority'.
Sue the GTC, Mr Beasley.
M Carter, Leeds,
stare decisis is the principle of precedent. locus standi is the one you're thinking of.
dr steven hinder, woking, surrey
In law, there is a principle called in latin "stare decisis" which means legal standing. It means for someone to bring a case they must havve been affected in some way. The GTC were not in any way affected so this is violating a principle of natural law.
Philip, Nottingham,
What has being a porn star part time got to do with the GTC? Political Correctness gone mad. People have lives outside of their work.
Robert, Sheffield, United Kingdom
Totally ridiculous; if his off duty life is kept apart from his professional and public life then this is over the top interference.
The GTC should get a life.
