A mobile phone mast has been dismantled after residents complained over a localised cluster of cancer cases, raising fresh concerns over the technology’s impact on health.
A study of seven separate sites has reported higher incidences of cancer, brain haemorrhages and other serious illnesses within a radius of 400 yards of mobile phone masts.
They included a cluster in Warwickshire of 31 cancer cases concentrated around a single street, which could be attributed to the proximity of a nearby mast, researchers said.
A quarter of the 30 staff at a special school within sight of the 90ft high mast have developed tumours since 2000, and another quarter have suffered significant health problems.
The mast, which was installed up to 15 years ago, was pulled down by the mobile phone operator O after the presentation of the evidence by local protesters. While rejecting any links to ill-health, O admitted that the decision was “clearly rare and unusual”.
Studies in other European countries suggest a rise in cancers close to masts. In 2005 Sir William Stewart, chairman of the Health Protection Agency, said he found four such studies to be of concern but that the health risk remained unproven.
John Walker, a scientist who compiled the cluster studies said he was convinced they showed a potential link between radiation emitted from the masts and illnesses discovered in local populations.

I had a Mobile mast on my roof. for almost 5 years.
Two dogs in seperate houses across the road that face the mast died of cancer.
I am glad there were no children in those houses.
The incidence of Birth defects has also sky rocketed over the past years. A sudy should be done to see if there is a relationship to where masts are located.
One of my sons has co-joined toes, they both had bad rashes until I turned the mast off. When the mast was turned off, I had an intense headache for 2 days.. it went away when I blew my nose and water came out.. enough to fill both hands.
After the mast was switched off, birds retured to our garden.

You will find information about phone masts and please note that Wi-Fi was proposed as the focus topic for the next meeting and Sir William Stewart agreed that this item should be addressed in due course.
I would like to thank Sir William Stewart for chairing the EMF Discussion Group.

The Government is yet again failing the country. Most mobile masts (up to 20 meteres) can be built without any planning permission or local consultation. This is an utter disgrace. Masts are being built far too close to peoples homes and schools where exposure is at its greatest. There should be legislation to prevent masts being built near to homes and schools.
Complain to your MP now! It is only public action that will result in anything getting done.

We are in the process of High Court action to oppose an 80 foot high mast in our area for 3G. We have no legal support from medical evidence, simply because sir William Stewart failed to finish his job. Every goverment office is hiding behind a very outdated power level, which we have evidence is far too high. Enough to say that almost every country in Europe has adopted a lower level despite ICNIRP saying to us that the level is only a guidline. Maybe ICNRP should be called to book to activate a more professional approach, there are enough cases out there to warrant a very serious study NOW.

Please, please keep reporting these findings on the effects of mobile phone masts, maybe one day someone will take notice.
Our village is one of the latest to be targeted and guess what, it seems we not only have to try to fight the phone companies but we also need to take on the Church of England who seems to be offering up its churches to house these infernal masts quicker than you can say 'Amen and send us the cheque'
Don't you just long for one person in a position of power to stand up and say "Money isn't everything" Hey ho, in your dreams!

It's no surprise to campaigners that the cancer clusters in the vicinity of phone masts are increasing at an ever alarming rate bearing in mind the hundreds of independant research studies which prove that phone masts electro magnetic radiation causes serious ill health. No surprise to the phone operators either. Last week (15 April) the Sunday Times reported that T-MOBILE, the mobile phone giant, has been accused of burying a scientific report it commissioned that concluded handsets and masts contribute to cancer and genetic damage.
What is surprising is the total lack of action by central and local government . Despite this recent damning revelation, the operators are still being given permission to site their lethal phone masts next to schools and housing. This is an outrage!

Goto http://www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/ and enter your postcode you will see what you are living with this is the nationwide register - unfortunately it is not updated daily it is probably 6 mths behind but will at least give you an indication....
We currently have approx 55,000 Telecoms Microwave Transmitters inthe UK it is set to rise by approx 10,000 to accomodate 3G ..
The Government ignore in excess of 500 independant studies all strongly indicating serious health risks
Many countries have imposed emissions levels 1 thousanth of the levels in the UK WHY NOT HERE IN THE UK??? Anyone and everyone should look at http://www.planningsanity.co.uk/forums/masts/telemast.htm
This is the most comprehensive collection of research and links you could hope to find on the subject
Absolutely essential if you are going to fight a planning app.
Good luck - in my opinion -the effects of smoking, asbestos, pylons and BSE will pale into insignificance over the comming years

We need to make readily available the location of these masts including the camouflaged variety.
Righmove and Primelocation should have all masts highlighted on their interactive maps when purchasing properties.
Any further proposal for erection of such masts should inform all residence within a 500m radius and give them a choice to voice an objection.
John, Coggeshall,
At last a paper is reporting on this issue. We are currently fighting the erection of an O2 mobile phone mast in Shalford, Surrey. Our battle is a hard one as the mast got planning permission last year. It is a 100ft mast and will be close to 2 residential schools (for children with learning difficulties) and a residential area populated with several young families.
Due to our campaign to stop this mast, I have read a lot of information about non-thermal radiation, some of which came from John Walker, and it makes very disturbing reading. These masts cannot be safe for any living being.
The public, unless threatened by the erection of a mast, are unaware of the danger of these masts - it is imperative that you continue to inform them.
If the Government had not sold the 3G licenses for billions of pounds then there would not be this ridiculous competition between the phone operators, which has amounted in such a huge number of these ugly towers being built so irresponsibly.
