A vicious killer who murdered a teenage charity worker then cut up her body with a knife boasted on a mobile phone video taken two days later that he had enjoyed slitting her throat.
Stuart Jack, 22, grinned as he and his co-accused Debbie Buchan spoke of killing Laura Milne and mutilating her body before hiding it in a kitchen cupboard where it lay for a week.
Buchan, 19, also appeared in the video laughing about how she had enjoyed “stomping” on the 19-year-old's head and was glad that she was dead.
The chilling recording was played to the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, a day after Jack pleaded guilty to killing Miss Milne at a flat in Aberdeen city centre last December, then trying to dismember her corpse.
Buchan and another woman, Leigh MacKinnon, 18, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and all three admitted attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
In the video, taken at 2am, using the Sim card from Miss Milne's mobile phone, Buchan is seen putting her face towards the camera and saying: “This is the new and improved Laura Milne coz the bitch is dead,” and Jack replies “yes, she certainly is”.
Buchan said “I feel so happy that she's gone. She's on my kitchen floor with a slit throat, cut mouth, cut tit and her head kicked in. Don't I look better?” Jack replies: “A hundred times better and you f****** know it,” and Buchan giggles.
Jack continues: “She's worth f*** all and you're worth a million.”
Buchan asked Jack: “Are you glad she's dead?” and he replies “Yes I am”.
Jack pauses when Buchan asks: “Did you enjoy cutting her throat?” and she repeats the question, adding “Yes or no?” Jack replies “Aye”.
Buchan is then seen saying: “Good. I really enjoyed stomping her head to f***. There's blood all over my walls. Thank you, goodbye, you are the weakest link.”
The trio carried out their attack after a drinking session at a flat in Union Street where Buchan was living, on December 12.
They kicked open the bathroom door and forced Miss Milne out, removed items of her clothing and glasses, then forced her to the floor where they repeatedly punched and kicked her on the head before Jack slit her throat with a bread knife.
Jack pleaded guilty to murdering Miss Milne and attempting to defeat the ends of justice by trying to conceal the crime and destroy evidence by trying to cut off her head, legs and breast, cutting off her ear and hiding the body in a cupboard.
All three were charged with her murder and were due to stand trial this week but pleaded guilty to amended charges at the last minute.
They will be sentenced later this month following background reports.
Speaking yesterday Brian Milne, the father of Laura, said: “Laura was a major part of our family and it was rare for a day to pass without her being in touch with us.
“Laura was a lovely young woman with a big heart, who did not deserve to die so young or in such a violent manner. She was always willing to help others and this was reflected in the work she did with the Cyrenians [a charity] in Summer Street, Aberdeen.
“Her failing was that she was too trusting.”
Mr Milne said that Laura had known Buchan since school.
He added: “Laura had been bullied by her throughout her school years but she did not bear a grudge against her. I warned Laura to be wary of her but she just assured me that they had become friends. That was typical of Laura - the day after an argument, it would be all forgotten.”
Mr Milne said that he hoped the conclusion of court proceedings would be able to give the family some closure. A close friend of Miss Milne's family added: “We are all relieved that an end has been brought to the trauma. We await the sentences and sincerely hope they fit the crimes.”
The case was adjourned overnight for a full narrative of what happened to be prepared for the court today.
