SIR Paul McCartney decided to quit the Beatles and sue his former bandmates while walking on a beach near his home on the Mull of Kintyre, according to a new book.
The decision, which ended the most successful songwriting partnership in the history of pop music and provoked a bitter feud with John Lennon, proved so painful that the former Beatle has never revealed the circumstances in which it was made.
However, a Scots author claims to have uncovered new evidence proving that McCartney resolved to break up the band during his self-imposed exile at High Park Farm in Campbeltown in 1970.
Ken McNab, a former journalist and author of The Beatles in Scotland, which is due to be published next month, claims to have evidence from eyewitnesses and locals who spent time with McCartney during his time in Kintyre that the musician finally resolved to break up the band while in Scotland.
“He [McCartney] was the one who had to take the decision to take John, George and Ringo to court to end their song writing and musical partnership and I’ve discovered very good evidence which tends to suggest that that ultimate decision was taken while he was walking along the beach on the Mull of Kintyre,” said McNab. “I’ve managed to obtain eyewitness accounts.”
McCartney was unavailable for comment.

All of the Beatles wanted out by the end. It wasn't any one member's fault. It was a combination of factors -- burnout, business problems, Allen Klein, the death of Brian Epstein. They outgrew The Beatles and wanted to do individual projects. Imagine living in that fishbowl existence.

John Lennon made every attempt to destroy the Beatles by teaming up with Yoko Ono in 1969 to record advantgarde rubbish that nobody was interested in. It was Lennon who walked out on the Beatles after they had recorded Abbey Road in Sep 1969 never to return. Paul tried to keep the Beatles together

Let's face it - John, George & Ringo didn't want to make the hard, public decision to end the ride. I Love all The Beatles, but Paul was the glue that had them hold on as long as they did. Then he did what anyone in an intolerable situation would do. Draw the line in the sand.

I don't believe it! John put the first nail in the coffin when he
started bringing Yoko Ono to recording sessions.
None of his fellow bandmates were happy with this arrangement. Paul was shocked and depressed when The Beatles finally split. in 1969.By then they had grown apart.

John left the band 9 months before this happened, but the law suit was important because it served to make it more difficultt for the band to get back together. True, they were not Gods, but their music was a gift of Him. We are all poorer because of the loss of Beatle music.

Eyewitness accounts of Paul thinking about breaking up The Beatles or maybe Macca wrote it in big letters on the beack. 'I'm going to break up The Beatles'.
I can't wait to see the pictures....
Michael, London,
What a BIG surprise!!
All books I've read (and I'm a huge Beatle fan) agree that it was John Lennon who split up The Beatles, but he didn't disclose urged by manager Allen Klein in order to get a royalties improvement from EMI.
Paul quit and made it public once John and George had already gone.

Who cares? Their break up didn't mean the world was coming to an end. As much as I like them they were NOT God. What a pointless article when there is so much else going on in the world right now.

You think this is earth shattering news..??? Good people this is public knowledge...Read any credible Beatles Biography or even Paul's Autobiography and he explains in detail what happened..I think the authors of this book are caught in a time warp or something...wake up ... '!!!

This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Paul McCartney has spoken about this MANY times. That it has never been revealed is a total lie. Even a bad tv movie, The Linda McCartney Story made right after her death, showed a scene at his farm where he makes the decision to sue.
