Torrential downpours and an increased risk of flooding are forecast for the coming week and the Environment Agency has issued flood warnings across the country.
The agency issued 76 flood watches and 21 more serious flood warnings across Britain after heavy rainfall throughout the weekend.
One woman had to be rescued from her car by firefighters in Troedyrhiw, Mid Wales, after it became stuck in floodwater yesterday. Fire crews also pumped water out of properties in the area.
The Environment Agency is keeping a close eye on rainfall in parts of the country at high risk of flooding after the Met Office cautioned that further downpours could be coming later in the week.
Gloomy weather conditions have been blamed on the remnants of Tropical Storm Laura, which has boosted an Atlantic depression. Kevin Hogg, a Met Office forecaster, said: “The weather will be changeable through the week. The next heavy batch of rain will be coming from the southwest in the early hours of Tuesday, and Tuesday morning will be wet across large parts of Great Britain.” The only good news to brighten the sodden October ahead is the expectation that wet weather will bring warmer temperatures.
