Three die in South Africa shooting
A company executive pulled out a gun and opened fire during a board meeting, killing two colleagues before shooting himself.

The gunman, who was one of six directors meeting at the offices of the Silver Unicorn engineering company in Pretoria, also shot a third colleague in the head, critically wounding her, said a police spokeswoman.

The incident is believed to have been prompted by the board’s decision to suspend the gunman, named as Happy Nkosi. The shootings came as 20 demonstrators held a vigil outside the South African Parliament calling for tougher gun control laws.

The vigil coincided with the first day of public hearings on proposed amendments intended to close loopholes in existing legislation and reduce the number of gun-related deaths.

Last year, there was an average of 51 murders every day. There are 3.7 million guns in the country. (Reuters)
