148 Muslim war graves attacked

ABLAIN-SAINT-NAZAIRE Vandals desecrated 148 Muslim graves in France's biggest war cemetery, hanging a pig's head from one tombstone and daubing slogans insulting Rachida Dati, the Muslim Justice Minister. President Sarkozy said that he was outraged at the attack on Notre Dame de Lorette cemetery, near Arras, northern France. (AFP)

Mormon child abuse inquiry

HOUSTON Officials investigating a potential child abuse case said that 183 children and women had been removed from a ranch northwest of San Antonio that is home to a Mormon sect linked to Warren Jeffs, the jailed polygamist. (Reuters)

Navy monitors hijacked yacht

PARIS The French navy was still trailing a luxury yacht off the Somali coast two days after pirates from the port of Harardheere stormed the boat and took its 30 crew hostage, Hervé Morin, the French Defence Minister, said. (Reuters)

Unruly party ends in tears

EAST LANSING Police used teargas to disperse a crowd of up to 4,000 revellers at a party near the campus of Michigan State University after fights broke out and officers were pelted with bottles and cans. There were 52 arrests. (AP)

Talks aim to free yacht hostages

MOGADISHU A French luxury yacht seized by pirates in the Gulf of Aden on Friday arrived in the Somali town of Eyl yesterday. The French authorities were in contact with the pirates about freeing the crew of 30. (AP)

Robbery turns into botched job

ATHENS A suspect in a knifepoint robbery at a store in Athens, Georgia, was caught because, while waiting for it to empty of customers, he filled out a job application form with his name and an uncle’s phone number, police said. (AP)

Please get it right. The Jeff's organization is not Mormon any more than a Catholic is a Baptist or Methodist is Presbyterian.

When referring to people or organizations that practice polygamy, the terms “Mormons,” “Mormon fundamentalist,” “Mormon dissidents,” etc. are incorrect. The Associated Press Stylebook notes: “The term Mormon is not properly applied to the other ... churches that resulted from the split after [Joseph] Smith’s death.”
