Zambian leader dies after stroke

Obituary

Lusaka President Mwanawasa of Zambia, 59, a favourite of Western donors and a critic of the Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe, died in France nearly two months after suffering a stroke. (Reuters)

Inflation passes 11.2m per cent

Zimbabwe: full coverage

Harare Zimbabwe’s official annual inflation rate reached 11.2 million per cent in June. One economist said: “The actual figure for July could be as high as 300 million per cent, while for August it could be 600 million per cent.” (AFP)

Diner sues over 9ft tapeworm

Chicago A man who claims that he got a 9ft tapeworm after eating undercooked fish is suing a Chicago restaurant for $100,000 (£53,000). Anthony Franz blames a salmon salad lunch. The restaurant denies negligence. (AP)
