Rome Prosecutors suspect that the apparent suicide of Italia Telecom’s head of security is linked to his helping police to investigate whether members of the Italian secret service colluded with CIA agents in the abduction in Milan of a man accused of terrorism. They are working on the theory that Adamo Bove, 42, who fell from a bridge in Naples, had been threatened and was “instigated to take his own life”. (Richard Owen)
Rebel chief killed
Hyderabad Police raided a Maoist rebel forest hideout in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, killing Burra Chinnaiah, a leader of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist group, and at least seven others, including five women. The raid took place about 220 miles south of Hyderabad. (AP)
Sharon worsens
Jerusalem The condition of Ariel Sharon, the former Israeli Prime Minister, has deteriorated, more than six months after he fell into a coma after suffering a stroke. A hospital spokeswoman said that there was no immediate threat to his life and doctors were not yet planning any medical intervention. (AFP)
Actor attacked
Warsaw A Moroccan actor was attacked at a theatre festival in northern Poland in an incident witnesses said was racially motivated, the Polish Press Agency reported. The attackers smashed a bottle over the head of the man during the festival in Wegajty. Police have arrested three men, aged 18, 22 and 26. (AP)
Assets frozen
Tirana An Albanian businessman accused of receiving money from Osama bin Laden to set up a terrorist network has had his bank account frozen. Abdul Latif Saleh, who reportedly left Albania in 2002, is on a United Nations blacklist. The Government has also frozen the accounts of five Islamic charities. (AP)
Mutilated body
Kingston Police in Jamaica are investigating the death of a pregnant Swedish woman whose mutilated body was discovered at her Hanover home in a western rural area. The legs and arms had been severed from the body of Henrietta Jensen, 37, who was found by her fiancé. No arrests have been made. (AP)
Heart of power
Seoul Kim Jong Il, 64, the North Korean leader, has been living with his former secretary, who is acting as the nation’s first lady, Yonhap news agency said. Kim Ok, 42, was even received by Chinese officials as Mr Kim’s wife during a visit in January. The North Korean leader is said to have been married thrice. (AP)
