With the Burmese government restricting visas to foreign journalists, and all internal media controlled by the state, the internet provides one of the few routes left for getting eyewitness reports from inside Burma to the outside world. Despite rumours that the junta intends to close down internet access, a few brave bloggers continue to report their experiences.
One of the soldiers was shooting into the crowd near by the Sualae Pagoda. People can see that the solider is not a professional, because so many of his bullets went up into the sky, and also into the restaurant and a man was hit.
A lot of rumours are flying around Yangon. I am getting awfully paranoid.
Yesterday, I saw many people marching along with the monks. It was probably thousands, but I'm not too sure, because I saw them marching on Shwedagon Pagoda Road, and they didn't come on to Bo Gyoke Aung San Rd, where I was watching.
I saw them again when I came back from work. This group was a smaller group of between 200 to 300. They were chanting the same prayers, and asking people to clap. The people on the bus clapped along with them. I think they were going back to their monastery.
Yesterday, Brig. Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Myanmar's religious affairs minister, was shown on state television delivering the "message" during a meeting with the senior Buddhist clerics, saying that young monks were "persuaded" by "external and internal elements", and that if the monks do not restrain themselves, they'll take action by legal means.
Some shops downtown closed down early, and some companies released their employees early.
My co-worker is deleting some of his posts on his blog. :P
Internet connection was down from 11:20am to 3:40pm. I don't know if it's an isolated case, or just in my office.

We all, as a one of people will courageously refuse all the unlawful orders by
the military regime. Therefore we will stand firm with patriotic spirit. All
the people will come out to the street like the other days. I would like to
request all other people to collaborate with us.
Tomorrow...we need more strength and resistance, if we can stand tomorrow, I
am 80% sure that our hope is coming right away

Another column of thousands of people are coming to their way to reinforce the
peaceful demonstrators who are in confrontation with armed military troops.
A respectful old monk is in the vanguard of the column singing national anthem and holding flags of fighting peacock.
Despite peaceful demonstrators have been beaten to break up the crowd, the demonstrators are still together reciting “metta sutta”(A discourse on loving-kindness, about disseminating love to those who are aggressive)

I was married in Yangon a few years ago and then we went to the ShweDagon to celebrate. it was a glorious day and we ahd many weeks to enjoy the country as well.
The monks bring tears to my eyes and have for many days with the bravery they are showing for the people of Myanmar.
These people deserve more, they deserve freedom.
I quote Daw Aung San Su Kyi, the Lady. "We will prevail because our cause is right, because our cause is just. ...History is on our side. Time is on our side."

If the loathsome generals who rule Burma were in appearance as their characters, they would be orcs.
Fr. Joseph Frary, Manila, Philippines
China and India should be ashamed of their silent conspiracy in doing nothing about the situation which has gotten so bad that the world can only watch. The fact that China provides arms to the junta is nauseating. I am dumping my Chinese stock, will encourage others to do likewise..
It is heartbreaking to watch these peaceful people put their lives on the line as they are fired upon. It's even worse when you think the military has shut down communications, thinking in their ignorance that the truth will not get out. Thank heaven for satellite pictures.
The junta need to be tried for human rights violations. Give Burma back to the people of Burma.

However briefly, Korea has a similar history of military regime. It was ended by protests of people who yearned for democracy, and as a Korean, I'm ever so grateful that previous generation has sacrificed their lives for freedom I enjoy now. I really hope neighboring Asian countries, including South Korea, which, I'm ashamed to say, still allows its companies to invest in Burma, will actually take action. Is there anything we can do? Even UN can't seem to do much at this point....

It's now imperative for China to use its influence to restrain this monstrous military regime. If it does not, a replay of 1988 is ineveitable. This, too, woul d be a great opportunity fo Beijing to earn brownie points in the run-up tothe Olympics. So far its international image is something a lot less than shining. But I'm pessimistic about China doing very much. As for me, I won't watch a minute of the Olympics: my small personal protest against China and other oppressive regimes. Manuel Escott, Toronto

Of all poverties, intellectual poverty is the poorst. Burma is a vey traic countr given the noble nature o its people and the natural resurces. Burmas current problems are deep-rooted in the colonial era under the British, who actually built the infamous Insein prison to imprison the patrioticBurmese who fought the alien coloniser. The Burmese were humiliated but never accepted colonialism. The coloniser proceeded with their classic divide-and-rule and left a time-bomb called "Panglong Agreement", which as the condition of indepedence. That was the most wicked act.
British Broadcasting Corporation did an investigative documentary on the assassination of Burma's independence hero Aung San. It pointed to an Englishman called Bingham. Today's young Burmese are so ignorant of their own history, they have no idea how neocolonialism of England works in the name of democracy, applying the same divide-and-rule tactics, this time only by proxy.

How can we create a massive denunciation of the junta in Maynmar? Is it possible to send e-mails to the authorities or is the internet shut down? What organization can make things happen quickly before more Monks lose their lives?
kathleen bartlett, Fergus, Canada (Province of Ontario)
My name is Andrew Bowe and I deeply love Burma and all of its buddist monks and people in genmeral as human beings, because they don't need to be killed for just protesting peacefully. The world has to act right away espically Thailand since its there next door neighbor and India.
Andrew Bowe, Evanston , Illinois USA
Your time is now people of Burma. The eyes of the west are upon you. You must not be afraid and you must continue in your efforts to let the world know what you have been living through these past decades and keep your plight in the forefront of our minds. We will help you.
