*Benazir Bhutto's father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was dismissed as Pakistan Prime Minister in 1975 and executed by hanging for conspiracy to murder a political opponent in 1979.
*Ms Bhutto wrested control of the PPP from her mother, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, while her two younger brothers, Shahnawaz and Murtaza, set up a militant group called al-Zulfikar, which orchestrated a string of bombings in Pakistan. They were both killed in 1985 and 1996 respectively.
*Shahnawaz, 28, was found dead in his apartment while in exile on the French Riviera. His family insisted he had been poisoned.
*Murtaza set up a breakaway faction of the PPP after he accused Bhutto of straying from their father's ideology. He was killed in a shootout with the Pakistani police.
*Although she and Murtaza were political rivals, on the night her brother died, Ms Bhutto ran to the hospital barefoot and wept over his bloodied corpse in the morgue for 45 minutes.
*Murtaza's Syrian widow, Ghinwa Bhutto, is the chairperson of her own faction of the PPP. She is estranged from her Bhutto in-laws and lives in Karachi with her son, Zulfikar Bhutto Jr, and her stepdaughter, Fatima Bhutto.
*Fatima, 25, is a columnist for The News in Pakistan and one of Ms Bhutto's harshest critics. She called the ordinance signed by Musharraf that quashed the corruption case against Ms Bhutto "the greatest judicial subversion that our country has seen in a long time".
*Fatima also blames Ms Bhutto for her father's death. Ms Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, was arrested on suspicion of his murder in 1996. Although he was soon cleared, he remained in police custody for the next eight years on charges ranging from corruption to murder.
*Arguably the most hated man in Pakistan, Mr Zardari was accussed of amassing millions of pounds through corruption and kickbacks. Rumours of a £2.5 million Surrey mansion stocked with furniture and antiques sent by Mr Zardari from Karachi in crates labelled 'mangoes' were widely reported in the Pakistani media.
*At the head of the 700,000-strong Bhutto clan is Ms Bhutto's uncle, Mumtaz Bhutto. He refused to support Ms Bhutto on her return to Pakistan this year, saying she had betrayed the family name with her negotiations with Musharraf.

MIR BAAZEED KHAN, Sindh, Pakistan
Mem Benazir Bhutto was the greates personality of pakistan.and we can say that greates personality of this world. She did many things in faviour of people of pakistan.she was the brave daughter of brave Father, Sir Zulfiqar Bhutto. Mem Always wanted 2 democracy in pakistan, means she was love her country, and people of country . thats why she came in pakistan after 8 years, for supporting to the people. she was great leader , as well as great women.she always take care of her babushka on her head. when she came back in pakistna every person were very happy that now she will control on the crimes which was happening in pakistan.she was completinthe dream of her Father.but
Allas ! she is no more. we cried very much when we listen about Mem. but no body can do any thing that time. now we dont know that what will happend of pakistan. we can do only one thing that is "DUA" that May GOD keep safe to this Islamic country.we are praying that may GOD forgive all sins of our lovely Mem.Amin
saba, karachi, pakistan
May Allah forgive her for her sins she was a good politician but the same cannot be said about her being a great human being and a sincere leader. i balme her husband for the massive corruption unleashed on Pakistan during the time she held office. what does our memory faill us so quickly, what ever the reasons she was equal partner in all that she and her husbnd did. we pay partly for our sins in this world which i feel she has by the brutal manner of her assasination. Brings to mind the brutal heart wrenching time Mir Muratza was ruthlessly murdered by his own people his family. Sadly she too succumed to the interest of her immediate family. i wait to see how lon Zardari survies
hina, lahore, pakistan
Benazir Bhutto was a great leader.she knew that her life was on risk. But she herself said that for democracy and for the people of pakistan she would take that risk , she did it. what i feel personly that pakistan has'nt only lost a great leader but also lost its half a century struggle towards democracy. Now PPP has announced bilawal zardari as chairman of PPP. it should not have happend.some one must have come from BHUTTO's family only. otherwise PPP will no longer exist.it may win the elections2007, but i am afraid of the future of PPP with Bilawal.
Abdul Rauf, islamabad, PAKISTAN
Bhutto was the real woman, and was a brilliant international political figure. She was the person, who was loved throughout the world. She led her life for her nation, she was warned many a times, even then she didn't fear, ignored all the threats. She herself said in an interview that, she is ready to take a chance with her life. She was the only asian woman, who was made a chairperson in an Oxford university. She did a lot 4 Paksitan. But this can't be understood by all the people.B'coz all r not literates. She will be in our hearts 4 ever. The most intelligent and powerful woman, people've ever seen.God bless her!...rest in peace.

We do all have very short memories! Lets all try to remember a person in death as we knew in life! She was a dictator like her father and the rest of the leaders Pakistan has had! Money and power should not rule a nation; the values and leadership qualities of an individual should be elected in a democracy. This is the only way forward!!
Dee, Shoreham by Sea, England
it is a big loss for pakistan. she was a dedicated leader , the allegations of corruption are all thanks to her husband. i think enough bhuttos have given their life for pakistan , a country that has given them much back apart from self imposed exile. i dont think that her young son bilawal should be pushed into politics , he has a life to live. It is not worth another sacrfice , if PPP is to end then be it.
ansa, exeter,
Nothing justifies murder but why did Mrs. Benazir Bhutto Zadari agree to legitimize General Musharref? To justify his actions? What a horror!
Zeenat Mohan, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago
she was as currupt as the rest of the pakistani "politicians"
and it would seem had little regard for her children putting herself on death row
Tariq, Nottingham,
I am totally disgusted that someone has the nerves to say that she was not the beacon of hope. It is all hard to see nothing from the north in Newcastle, it is no surprise that you can malign someone who has actually laid her life for the nation. Benazir was a real leader of the people, no matter what the charges and accusations be, she was a BRAVE woman who was loved by the common masses because it was they who saw the beacon of hope. It was the masses, not those who could afford a ticket to UK but those who lived every day hoping she would bring about a change. She was the last leader we ever had and so the hope!! It is a national loss so please keep quiet if you can't comprehend the loss.
Sarah, Lahore, Pakistan
I feel sad for her children, they have lost their mother in a devastating manner.
However, lets not deify this woman whose faults were widely known; she supported the Taliban by openly funding them, she siphoned off millions of Pakistan's money and is widely believed to have been beehind her brother's death. She was certainly not the "beacon of hope" the media is portraying her to be.
Natasha, Newcastle,
THis is an act of brutality that Pakistan has to face in the face of everything. but the real terror is the AFterMath of it.....
Nobody burns down their own home....no matter how outrageous, hurt or heartbroken they are......the panic, hte riots and the arsons of malls, buses, trains and government's buildings is somehting unthinkable and logically not to be related to the heartbroken PPP members...they are too grieved and too disorganized for something like this at the moment
Knubbyah, Islamabad, Pakistan
Nehad how very glib, what evidence do you have that the world does not have, aside from mere supposition? The nuanced world of complex machinations for power among the Allah, America and the Army are far more pertinent. She herself implicated elements of the Musharraf junta, or does that not fit into a convenient narrative? Surely her brother Murtaza's organisation as described above is more correctly called a terrorist group? The Swiss accusations of money-laundering and her husband was known as Mr 10 if not 30%. The fact that she melodramatically returned from SELF-IMPOSED exile, only after a deal to quash corruption charges was agreed with the power-sharing agreement with Musharraf speaks volumes about genuine commitment to democracy, whilst the other democrats were hounded. The Bhutto "Dynasty" was a typical 3rd world bunch of feudal, narcisstic, venal Machiavellian plutocrats with a glorified personality cult, founded upon the illiterate rural clans of Sindh. Cut from one cloth.
NRI, London, UK
We should take notes in this assasination and understand that no matter where we turn, terrorism is real. Ms. Bhutto had a fight and regardless of whether we agree with her history, policies or other issues, she showed the ultimate form of bravery and no one has the right to take the life of someone else because of superficial differences. We should take note and work to prevent something like this from ever happening in the United States.

why the pretend sentimentality over the death of this women who promoted or tolerated violence against others.
her father was responsible for the death of at least a million bangladeshis by his actions. all because he did not want to see sheikh mujibur rehman as prime minister and was willing to sactifice the integrity of his country to become prime minister - or was it president.
his daughter, dearest benazir herself, the darling of the west, tolerated the jihadists who were committing acts of violence in kashmir against india, during his double tenure as prime minister.
the truth of the matter is that the whole establishment in pakistan - the military, bhutto and sharif included - have all used jihadist forces to commit acts of violence.
now one of them has paid the price, probably at the hands of a jihadist. sad but then , does that well known adage not say - 'those who live by the sword shall die by the sword'
mkj, singapore, singapore
No matter how bad the govt. of Ms Bhutto may have been in the past or even how bad it would be had they not killed her, it has to be taken serious that the worst civilian rule is better than the most benevolent military dictatorship. That Pakistanis rallied around her is clear proof that a ''dirty'' Bhutto is neater than a ''clean'' Musharraf.
Ike Onuoha, Enugu, Nigeria, Ebonyi State
No doubt, Benazir did not do anything for the nation, she was different from her father Zulfiqar but her assisnation damaged country's image. It is a very tough time for Musharraf, if he successfuly calm down the nation, held a free and fair election and block the infiltration from Afghan, wana and waziristan into urban areas, he will be a real successor.
adeel, Leeds, UK
Benazir Bhutto was murdered by Islamists because she is a woman. They threatened to kill her the moment she announced her desire to return to Pakistan and fight the election.
