Jerusalem The “alternative Lambeth” conference organised by conservative evangelicals in the Anglican Church in Amman has moved to Israel after the Archbishop of Nigeria was denied entry to Jordan.
The Global Anglican Future Conference (Gafcon) was to have met in Jordan this week and Jerusalem next week in an attempt to establish an orthodox centre for the Anglican Communion, currently in disarray over homosexuality and women's ordination. But the Global South leader, Dr Peter Akinola, the primate of Nigeria and a leading light of the conservative evangelical wing of the Communion, was denied entry to Jordan when attempting to cross from Israel.
The 100 or so bishops who attended the pre-conference meeting in Amman were planning to go to the Holy Land on Sunday originally for the start of the main conference in a ceremony at the Mount of Olives on Monday.
Paradoxically, the Gafcon meeting will clash with next Thursday's Gay Pride march in Jerusalem. The theme of Jerusalem Pride is “free love”.

What is there not to love about the current leadership of the C of E ? The dissenters seem a bit too uptight. More royal than the king etc.
Adi, Athens, Greece
That's the way boyos !
If you don't like what you see and hear, fingers in your ears, cover your eyes and build a big fence to keep dissenters out. We won't miss you.
Ian, Berwick, UK
These conservatives seem to ignore Jesus' words against divorce. Most Anglicans have moresense!

Gaffecon moving to Israel?
Following the lead of many Ethiopians and Sudanese. If they convert, Israel might allow them to stay.

It is all about whether you believe that the word of God is as set out in the Holy Bible. Those who believe about Sodom and Gomorah will welcome the growing acceptance of that warning. Those that fear it will not and forever strive to justify their way of life.
A R Llewelyn, Newport, UK
How one wishes that these prelates would get their hands out of other people's underwear, and their prurient noses out of private bedrooms. This fundamentalist "Christian" obsession with the sexual lives of others is simply disgraceful. Please form your own lunatic "church" and leave us all alone.
David, London,
What a colossal joke.
The protagonists of peace and harmony snapping and snarling at each other because they are unable to accept or understand the times they live in.
Sean, Coventry, UK
The church has messed around with with all of what it stands for from the late 60s/70s its time to close there doors or go back to RC church, Becauce there is no hope for any peace
