The “working lunch” manages to pack in at least 1,622 calories - a man needs 2,550 a day and a woman 1,940 - along with 80g of protein, which is almost double a woman’s daily needs of 45g and well over a man’s daily target of 55g.
It also gives the delegates 114g of fat, well over the 90g maximum for a man. The chances of being able to concentrate after such a heavy lunch are questionable, and blood fats will rise significantly, putting delegates potentially at risk of heart problems as they sit behind their desks all afternoon.
Dinner is an even more gluttonous affair. Although the menu has many lean Japanese dishes, such as boiled prawns, and delivers its fair share of omega-3 fats, the beef, lamb and fried sweet potatoes push the overall fat content up. Even if you picked daintily through the courses, it would be hard to leave the table without having once again consumed almost all your day’s calorie needs in the one meal.
Alcohol is served with each course. Given that 175ml glasses are the norm and the wines have an alcohol volume of 12 per cent plus, even if delegates stuck to three glasses at dinner they would be easily pushing eight units - an amount that could be considered to be binge drinking.
