ROME An image of a “guardian angel” in St Peter’s, left, has mystified professional photographers. Andy Key, 48, who marked his retirement from the police by visiting Rome with his wife, Susan, 44, took the picture as he listened to the Pope in the Vatican. “I saw this huge window with light streaming through. I snapped the picture and didn’t noticed anything until I got home,” he said. “No one can explain it. There’s nothing on their heads for the light to bounce off.” (Masons)

People read into things what they want. Maybe it's an angel, maybe it's not. I've gone to church, I've read my Bible, but I'm still reluctant to believe that this image is an actual angel. When God sends an angel to someone it usually manifests in a different form than this.
Ashley, Savannah, USA
I viewed this photo with a completely open mind and no interest in debunking it. But it only took a couple of seconds to discern that the illusion of a head is created by an abstract shape from a shaft of light being interrupted by a pillar. Once you recognize this element of the image, it becomes obvious that the apparent breast shape is created in conjunction with it. At this point, no mystery remains.
In response to one observer who is forlorn at the prospect of disenchantment and asks, âCouldn't it be an actual angel?â the answer is no; not because the simple explanation is easier to accept, but because itâs clearly the correct one.

I see it's carrying a piece of toast with a picture of Richard Dawkins burnt onto it. How bizarre.

When we send someone a greetings card, it's not Shakespeare, but it brings joy and at the same time doesn't interfere with their freedom..., in any way. Greetings from a heavenly alien is nice.

Of the comments I have red all I can say is shame on you!
Some may think that our faith is desperation, some may think tha God is "sitting on His backside" but I want to say that your "useful miracle" should be viewed as the ability to rise each day and be able to praise God for everyhing around. Stop acting like heritics, unless you are.
Jane, Rockport, United States
The faithful must be really desperate if they have to cling to such flimsy evidence of heavenly beings. If god and his heavenly host do exist I'd be more impressed if they raced around the sky in flaming chariots. Why tease us with such dubious sightings?
Chris, Dorking, UK
Isn't it time God stopped messing about, got off his backside and carried out some useful miracles for a change?
Martin, York, England,
It just looks like a puff of smoke to me...
Keziah, Nottingham,
Its funny how the "angel" is roughtly in line with our human view of what an angel should look like
Neil, Edinburgh, (soon to be independant) Scotland
Why can no-one explain it? It's cute and everything, but the light is obviously bouncing off the pillar and the walls.
Starling, Lancaster,
To me it looks more like tinkerbell with a few extra pounds. Power of association, I think.
CM, Nottingham,
Yes , everyone has their own angel. What more can you say! Stay with the Holy Spirit.
Rita Buckingham, Naugatuck,, USA
Why don't these alien beings invest in some form of text messaging. Better communications needed!
