Locals in a small east German township stood by as a drunken mob of about 50 youths howling neo-Nazi slogans hunted down eight terrified Indian tourists.
The attack in Mügeln, near Leipzig, was the latest in a series of violent assaults on foreigners in eastern Germany that is beginning to alarm the Government in Berlin.
The inhabitants of Mügeln were celebrating their traditional Old Town street festival on Saturday night when a horde of German youths started to pick a fight with the visiting Indians.
After pushing and shoving them the youths chased them out of a beer tent and pursued them down the narrow streets of the town centre.
The young Indian men took refuge in a pizzeria and tried to barricade the doors with tables.
By the time that the police arrived – about 70 officers – the Germans had smashed their way into the pizzeria. The eight Indians were treated in hospital but have now been released.
The town authorities are still in denial about the reasons for the clash even though witnesses say that the mob was shouting slogans such as “Long live the national resistance!” and “Get out of Germany!”.
“I really don’t know if there is a far-right background to this incident,” Gotthard Deuss, the Mayor, said yesterday. “There are no known right-wing extremists here. This is a town with barely 5,000 inhabitants and everybody knows everybody.”
The regional police chief, Bernd Merbitz, went a little farther, saying: “We are investigating all possible motives, including the possibility that this was an act aimed at foreigners.”
Saturday was a red-letter day for neo-Nazis across Germany – it was when they mark the anniversary of the death in 1987 of Rudolf Hess, Hitler’s deputy as leader of the Nazi party. Mr Deuss had apparently been warned before the celebrations that far-right sympathisers could try to disrupt the festivities.
Ambitious young east Germans increasingly leave their home towns to move to cities in western Germany or elsewhere in Europe in search of jobs.
Those left behind are often frustrated, angry and getting by on social welfare payments. Nationalist groupings, notably the National Party of Germany (NPD), are capitalising on this discontent, gaining a foothold in local councils and regional parliaments and setting up their own training centres.
A survey of 14 to 25-year-olds carried out by the Forsa opinion poll institute found that one out of two youths in eastern Germany now believe that National Socialism had “its good sides”.
Because of the strong grassroots presence of the NPD in Saxony – Mügeln is close to the two major Saxon cities of Leipzig and Dresden – and in Mecklenburg-Pommerania, funding is often made available for youth centres for the far Right.
These in turn are creating a new network of sympathisers who are barely noticed by their neighbours until a flare-up such as occurred at the weekend.
In Wismar, an ancient port in eastern Germany, there are now not only neo-Nazi youth centres but also retail outlets where sympathisers can buy CDs with racist music and neo-Nazi paraphernalia.

Multi-culturalism means the death of white culture. Don't be fooled by those who forward the ideas of multi-culturalism. In Canada where we bend over backwards to make room for the whole world, no good has come of it. In fact the country is ruined. Canada does not have multi-culturalism Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have multi-culturalism most of the people who come here do not intend to become part of this false liberal society they just set up shop with their own kind, using Canada as a base of operations. The zionist masonic forces are behind this multi-culturalism and I don't think as a Canadain those young boys and men who died on those beaches did it so we could give our country away for free to the third world 40 or so years later.
Tyr Ofwar, Toronto, Canada
Dezza from Canberra. assimilation seems to be a one way street. Europeans who migrated to America, Australia and South Africa didn't assimilate, they kept their european culture more or less but subjugated the locals. Even the masses of English who now make Spain their home do not adopt Spanish culture. Why should the Lebanese adopt the anglo-Saxon European culture- they have a rich background and history which includes amazing architecture, sophistacated cuisine and wines. What is unusual to you is very usual to them.
Oh and by the way, Indians were recruited to work in a post war Britain in large numbers to build up the UK economy when India was a downtrodden country exploited and pillaged through years of colonialism no different to Italians and Irish migrating in millions to the US. The number of Europeans living in India is increasing . When India attains its state as the 3rd biggest economy in the world in 25 years time, there will be plenty more believe you me!
John, Leeds, UK
Racism (by the way I believe the right term in most cases should be nazism) is appalling - one should never be judged by belonging to a certain nation/race. But CULTURE is a totally different dimension - certain cultures in Europe have been building their democracies for centuries by opposing the things they hated and building the things they loved for generations. Every single good thing a European enjoys today has been paid for in full by his/her ancestors' blood, sufferings and hard labour. Why should people from other cultures whose ancestors did none of the above and who still stay at the level of social development Europe had sometime around AD500 come over and grab everything bought at a terrible price for free without even paying any due respect? Why should cultures believing raping, killing and abducting are fun sports benefiting every true man be harboured and supported by supreme cultures that purchased their consciousness at a great price paid over centuries?
Yury, St.Petersburg, Russia
Here is the solution: Non-native Americans, Candaians, Australians and New Zealanders from European background - go back to where you came from. Your countries are rich enough to sustain this reverse migration.
Migrants and hopefuls from the poorer , neglected, war/weather-ravaged countries (whether u live in your own countries or in a European country): move into those vacuums left.
If you find the above to be racist and/or impractical - join the multiculturalists. You will find it less painful than being massacred / made into slaves/ made into 'mendicants in their own countries'.
Lets all live and prosper together. There will always be a few bad apple in every race/nation/culture. Let's not let that affect how we treat people who are not like 'us'.
Krishan, Sydney, Australia
Migration of oreigners who will not assimilate has caused nothing but problems. Look at the problems we in Australia are having with Lebanese migrants who still want to cling onto their 'unusual' customs.
Obviously foreign visitors and tourists are a different thing, though how many Germans or Brits live in India? How many Indians live in UK or Germany? Go figure
dezza, Canberra, Australia
I have been myself a victim of brutal, primitive, racial attack. So I suffered all this about racial hate on my own skin, which is delicate , pale, and Black. Believe me, I have reflected so much about the causes, and now I am longing after counter-actions. I wonder how far "we" can get, how responsible humans can be, and what is the role of morality in our supposed supremacy in the Evolution Tree. It is not just about rejecting the retrograde direction, but about chosing the best way for our common future. Are we, finally rational or just mere reptile descendants? Go as far you can (Including Germany), be brave, but stay on yourself.
Helloman, Berlin, Berlin
70 years ago Jews who had lived for centuries amidst their fellow Germans were set upon by the Nazis. Germans after the war claimed that they knew nothing about the holocaust, when they saw and heard their neighbours being arrested, kicked and dragged out of their homes at all times of the day and night. Read the book "Hitlers Willing Executioners" which details how the whole society knew and participated in the death of millions. It could not have happened otherwise.
In the same fashion a mob enouraged the fascists in this small German town to assault unarmed people, just because they looked different. No the Germans will never change. They will do the unthinkable, and then some more. Thank God that we live in a civilized country.
Billoo Bhai, London, UK
There is no justification whatsoever for what has happened.
It is very clear this is racism in extreme form.
But as indians we deserve it!!
It is very sad when our countrys leadership couldnt take it up effectively with the germans.
It is sad when similar sort of things happen elsewhere including the middleeast, USA etc.
I ask my indian brothers and sisters especially in germany and others on this forum to write and ask our prime minister what has been done following this episode?
Has our ambassador in germany done any tough talk?
Has the GOVT. OF INDIA put out a caution on people visiting this area in Germany?
What is our Embassys plan to protect its citizens if this happens again?
koshynita, india,
As far as I know, even making a Nazi salute is strictly illegal in Germany. So I am very surprised that the German Police have not completely stamped out the ultra right. Unlike in Britain where as far as I know making such offensive gestures is somehow legal. If I am wrong about this, please will somebody clarify it.
The rise of the right is all over Europe from the usual suspects to the new European States. Switzerland, home of "neutrality" and peace is doubtless one of the nations on the brink of turning into a full scale " democratic " Nazi style state. Let us not forget though that here in Britain the BNP and other fringe parties are also on the rise.
Whilst we are facing the threat or perceived threat from Islam we forget that right behind us is an equally dangerous and real threat to western democracies. We live in dangerous and fast changing times. Even more reason that the Conservative party get their act together and refuse the ultra right the chance to fill their shoes.
M Voelker, Leeds, United Kingdom
Neo-Nazis are a popular reaction to unrestrained immigration of people into Europe who can never be assimilated by that continent. Blame the idiots in government who allowed vast numbers of people from 3rd world countries in Africa and Asia to come into Europe.
Alex G, Detroit, USA
there is racism everywhere on earth, stereotypes and prejudices are part of human beings,
but the problem in east germany (and eastern europe) is, that the people are afraid of everything strange or foreign, because they are not used to it.
they are not used to them.
in west germany you may find people with racist thoughts, but still people are able to live together, diversity is normal.
you neednt love your gay or black neighbours, but as democrats you are used to it.
in the east they have less then 4 or 3 percent foreign people, many people didnt see a black person in their whole life, but they learned from their tradition since the nazi-era, that they dont like them.
east-germany just "pretended" to be socialist, which means international, anti-racist and so on, they didnt pay one penny to israel, they didnt have a society revolution in 1968, they didnt "learn" that the nazi-time was bad, their leaders just said to them: we are antifacsist, but they didnt act like
Anton, Cologne, West-Germany
First of all no body has any rights to say where a person can go in this world. this globe was made for Living being and living being are bound to migrate. Migration has caused the world come together and the people has been migrating since the first human walked on the face of earth.
I would only want to ask the neo-nazi/germans that now since neo- nazi/germans wants foreigners out from their country so are we supposed to do the same to germans who is living or travelling in our country?
Manjesh, Kathmandu(now in Tokyo), Nepal (now in Japan)
he comments here are absolutely wrong. Go to India and there are attacks and rapes on foreigners every day. And now read below something from a person who knows the situation.
The fifty Germans chasing eight indians through the street is what the mainstream media and its copiers are saying. What actually happened was that eight Indians stabbed a German at a village festival, then moved into a tent, harassed the women, grabbed them at indecent parts as their boyfriends went in to protect. The Indians beat an old guy down as more Germans went in to protect the women. The Indians pulled knifes and were hurting more people. Until they were attacked. At that point they fled 50 yards to a Pizza station which one of the Indians owned. One of the Indians was a wanted man who got arrested (I believe on drug charges) So that is basically what happened. The mainstream media is spinning it to a racial hatred story. Multiculturalism is practiced globalism. They try to destroy the coherence between people of the same race and same culture. A mass of soulless individuals is easier to handle than a people.
Gaurav Ahuja, Woodbury, New York
It is stupid to excuse such obvious verbal and physical acts of racial motivated violence with lack of employment. German policy demands that jobs can only be given to foreigners, when there is no German or EU citizen who is interested and qualified. Secondly, if unemployment is something to go by, then there should actually be conflict worldwide in all continents where youths are unemployed, it is not just Germany where unemployment is. In fact, in global standards, east Germany has one of the best unemployment rates. So how come Chinese, Australian, Mexican, US, Nigerian etc. youths are not hunting foeigners from being unemployed? Come on, let´s call a spade a spade.
Stefan, Cologne,
Neil in London, to be fair, the Indians who arrived in the 50s and 60s found themselves in a Christian country, the one which I remember, where the love of money was frowned upon. To this extent, coming from a business oriented, profiteering culture they were at something of an advantage. Things have changed since Thatcher, however, and most people now worship money.
Also, and I'm sorry mate, but American Indians own more land than the rest of the population put together - second only to the Feds, even though, in a crowded world, they are and always have been a few million in number.
Eugene, Chester, England
The main reason for the attack was not frustration about the lack of jobs but simple racism. Non-whites should avoid the East German province like white Americans avoid the gettos of the blacks. In Europe or the US there are areas which are dangerous for white people but if a white person becomes a victim of a violent crime nobody calls it racism.
M. Thrax, Frankfurt,
Almost 20% unemployment in East Germany but 1-2% foreigners. Granted that it is possible that a job can actually be 'stolen', I don't get how this could be possible according to these figures.
Those inane Neo-Nazis should be rather grateful that foreigners purchase goods in supermarkets their mothers work for instead of expecting to get work w/o education and desperately scanning their areas for the few foreigners that they haven't scared away yet.
Erik, Cologne, Germany
Believe you me ,the Neo Nazi Government of Angela Merkel will not lift a finger to redress matters.
In fact ,they must secretly be rejoicing at the windfall that has so very conveniently dropped right into their laps . Imagine their luck at having their very own white skinhead lumpen, so very considerately ( and conveniently ) doing their dirty work for them
But the joke may well blow up in their faces . If most of the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis eventually pack up and leave - one can hardly see these skinhead lumpen rolling up their sleeves and doing the 'grunt' work . Their 'skill-sets' don't extend very much beyond :
getting pickled to the gills in bars ,
beating up the 'coloured' folk ,
and 'rogering' their women ( and men).
Ironically , Indians were far better treated , in Hitler's Germany . Sarojini Naidu's sister and brother-in-law ( A.C. Nambiar ) lived in Berlin for years ,without encountering any sort of racial attacks whatsoever.
RJKT, bangalore, India
Non white foreigners in East Germany are more secure than any ordinary random person in London, Manchester or Liverpool. The media always makes a big problem when a non-white becomes a victim of a racist crime. But if they shoot a white guy in Harlem you never read about it in the newspapers.

To Warren Mulller: Yeah, beating up immigrants looking to build a better life is acceptable, isn't it? This is how civilised, educated human beings should take their 'frustrations' out, isn't it? Interesting coming from a man with a German name settled in the United States. Schade, mein freund, sehr Schade! Or is it that migrating for better economic opportunities is an option open only to true Aryans? Oh, waitaminit, us Indians are Aryans too. Let's say open to the Nordic/National Socialist definition of Aryan - whatever that is. There're problems with outsourcing - 'they're takin our jobs', innit. There're problems if these evil brown people come to your land, contribute to the local economies, and pay their taxes too. 'They're takin our jobs'. Maybe you should read some Adam Smith, or even Darwin! :P How is it that right-wingers display a stupidity that would put the average chimp to shame? :P
Siddhu, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
I am a british woman married to a german. I lived and worked in Germany for almost 20 years and was always happy there. Unfortunately my husband and i were both hit by unemployment and we had to make a decision for our future which was to leave his country and move to mine.
There was already a large amount of neo-nazi activity in our area (which was not eastern germany) and looking at the situation now i can only say that i am not only disgusted by the behaviour of these thugs but also highly concerned by the frightening parallels between the current economic and social situation now and that of the time leading up to Hitlers rise to power. I certainly won't be going back!
sharon, lincolnshire, UK
Nick Heron is right. In response to David, Kiel / Germany: I am sick and tired of hearing such excuses. We hear them in this form since 1990. Since reunification it has become unbearable for many people inside Germany. I left G. precisely for its violent anti-'non-German' post-reunification climate. Ever since then, people have been chased through villages and cities, people have been murdered in the streets, houses with people inside have been burned down etc etc. The list of places is endless where murderous transgressions happened. As a 'German' who - ooops - has only one 'properly German' parent I would never again venture into the Ger East and I avoid small places in the West. Just like many other Germans - no longer considered as such since citizenship is not a concept that has overtaken 'blood' in Germany - I left the country years ago when the sympathies of the majority became obvious to me. Germany 'dealt' with Nazism only on the surface- too many agree with basic notions
Annette, Leeds, UK
To Mr Muller,
Even if they are in highly paid jobs, perhaps the Indians are more intelligent and able than the indiginous population. Have you thought that they might be of benefit to the German economy or is the size of your brain the same as those thugs?
Shah, London, UK
Art, ............. sorry don't know what to say to that. There's an old english saying that might apply here though "what a pillock"
Leon Andrews, Brisbane,
Well said Art. In Malta there are cities where there are more foreigners than Maltese. Goverments should put a limit on how many foreigners can stay in a country.
Ryan, Sliema, Malta
The world fought a long world war to stop this sort of outrage. The German nation must educate its young and quickly. It is too easy for young Germans to obtain neo Nazi propaganda which encourages them to blame foreigners for their own problems. Of course they will become frustrated if they have no jobs or no prospects but this is not an excuse for attacking foreigners who may have jobs. God forbid we have to fight Nazi's all over again.
Brookie, saffron walden, uk
My, someone in NJ is frustrated.
Meklen, Monterey, CA
As a Black German, I have to confirm every claim in the article.
There is a strong presence of nazis, tolerated / accepted by the people in East Germany. The problem does exist in West Germany as well, though to a lesser extent.
There are definitively No-Go Areas for non-aryan looking people in East Germany.
I can only speak out my heartfelt warning to be really cautious about visiting East Germany, if you are not white. You can do it, but inform yourself well (and ask non-white people, white Germans will always play it down or deny it outrightly!), before you venture in the East.
Carl Camurca, Berlin, Berlin
If they are unemployed they should use their pent up energy to get off their asses, stop drinking beer and eating sausages and find a job. It is the same all over the world - lazy people need an excuse for their slothliness. Much easier to blame someone who is actually prepared to work a full day rather than live in trailer, marry their sister and drink cut price beer.
W Rougenec, Texas,
If you blame foreigners and immigrants for the misery of your life, then you're no better than a Nazi. No, it's not "different". Just because your leader doesn't have a toothbrush moustache doesn't mean you're just as bad.
You're saying that if you ignore the BNP's (or an equivalent party) racism, their policies make sense? Well, so did the NSDAP's. Be warned.
starling, Lancaster,
Art should not too quick to jump to the conclusion considering that the american army should also "stay at home in america" and maybe, just maybe there wouldn't be innocent people getting killed daily by the american neo nazis oops i meant american forces.
tad, scotland, scotland
I am an Indian and studied for 6.5 years in Germany (Cologne) and had only good experiences there and have only good things to say about Germany and the Germans. I never experienced any form of racial abuse from the locals. Once I studied the language, I had no problems whatsoever in integrating into the society.
However, I have not traveled to the "former East". When I wanted to, a German friend joked that I better have some good running shoes.
I think that is very unfair to blame all Germans in general for the actions of a few, there are good and bad people everywhere and my personal experience with Germans was very good. In any case, we in India should be careful about criticizing others since we practice racism within the society (caste system, regional and religious tensions).
To Mr. Mulller, I do not think that you or any American (other than the native American-Indians) have any moral right to complain about immigration.
Sam, London, UK
The racist comments by Americans are a great embarrassment to me, as Markus Meitling suggested they should be. And the lawless behavior of the attackers should be condemned by all, not condoned or rationalized. Typically, underemployed young people are undereducated, unprepared to meet employment responsibilities, and often visibly at odds with socially accepted standards (extreme tattoos and piercing, haircuts, clothing). Would you rather have your business in the hands of a polite and well-dressed immigrant who is grateful for the job or a surly native-born citizen who doesn't care about giving you a day's work for a day's pay? These problems begin at home.
Lynn, Bucks County, PA USA
As a British Indian I am very upset on reading this.
The comments by Warren Muller in this forum are not at all helpful. Is he trying to say that there is justification for the violence if they are economic migrants?
Shah, London, UK
"I really donât know if there is a far-right background to this incident,â Gotthard Deuss, the Mayor, said yesterday. âThere are no known right-wing extremists here. This is a town with barely 5,000 inhabitants and everybody knows everybody.â
Racism? Rampant in a small town where everyone knows everyone else? Surely not! Clearly as unthinkable in Herr Deuss's town as it is in the small-town Bible Belt regions of the deep south USA where everybody knows everybody. Makes no difference when you're wearing a hood though, does it?
Chicken Little, Toronto, Ontario
Dear Warren and dear Art,
Do Americans stay in America ???? I wish that were the case!!!
Arvin, Emmingen, Germany
Geez, what racism comes from America with these 2 comments. What the hell does it matter if these Indians were tourists or economic migrants? Nothing justifies this, or any other, violence. And yes, it would be better if these Americans stayed in America with their friend the dopey president.
DavidG, Sydney, Australia
Excellent Job. Thank you White Germans for teaching us what racism and your culture is!!
B Ayyappan, Tuticorin, India
Art
It's easy isn't it, to solve problems this way? And tell the Americans to stay in the US - no problem?
Tell everyone to stay in their own countries and then talk about Globalization, Democracy, Equality, Fraternity, Civil Societies, rule of Law in the same breath? Good show!
Sonja De, Mumbai, India
To Warren Muller - you 'can see the frustration of the indigenous unemployed Germans'. Frustration is one thing - violence against people is something different. Furthermore was it these individual Indians that were to blame? There is clearly something more sinister going on...
To Art Ocone - you are simply a fool.
Al, London,
As a Brit living & working in Germany this past 22yrs I can assure you that I would never venture into ex-East Germany. Nationalism is very evident there - and I'd advise ANY non-white not to travel in East Germany...Warren a number of your country-men have been beaten up in north east Germany - and I'm guessing that they were not looking for jobs in an area of massive unemployement!!!!
Nick Heron, Ohlstadt, Germany
Mr Muller, Perhaps you might rather bring in slavery. Is the life of an Indian worth less than that of a European?
Shah, London, UK
Mohammad, you are right!
Vikram, New-Delhi, India/Delhi
Warren Muller, Hitler first rose to power in Germany because of people's frustration at the dire post-World War 1 economic situation there - are you saying that he had a point and that those people were right to support his policies and what they brought about because the economy prospered under him and jobs were created? What a load of racist codswallop. We all get frustrated, life's hard, this doesn't give anybody the right to attack others, whatever the supposed excuse.
Rose , Hawalli, Kuwait
As a British Indian. Someone on the tube train spat inside my brothers jacket pocket. Does it matter whether he is a tourist or economic migrant? Are the actions of racist thugs justified against economic migrants? I am sure that India will host Mr Muller warmly.(or perhaps he should stay in his boring homogenous town.)
Shah, London, UK
Your respondents from the United States seem to be living in the last century. The UK now welcomes a significant proportion of tourists from the Indian Subcontinent who pay their way and help to support the domestic tourist industry.
Inward investment from India into the UK is higher than it has ever been. If Indians are treated because of their skin colour in the appaling fashion that has been described they will take their rupees elsewhere.
Selwyn D'Costa, Dartford, UK
As a German of course I am as well ashamed of what happend there.
I just want to make some corrections to the article. The indians were not tourists, They live in Germany. Besides that it is not quite clear whether it was really a racist attack. There seemed to be some trouble on the dancefloor. We should not judge to early.
David , Kiel, Germany
Well said Art. In Malta there are cities where there are more foreigners than Maltese. Goverments should put a limit on how many foreigners can stay in a country.
Ryan, Sliema, Malta
Would you tell the same (Stay in your country) to any White European or American ??
Raj, New York, US
warren muller, and Ocone if they were just the real tourists then whats your say?
what a double talk you people do!!! Its simple europeans invaded other lands once, now othe landers are invading Europe, what difference does it make??
Irwin, Moscow, Russia
As a well travelled Brit in both Western and Eastern Europe, I am more of the opinion that this 'neo-Nazism' in Eastern Europe is simply frustration at their poor economies.
I am currently living in Poland and frequently encounter animosity and jealousy because I am from a 'rich' country.
Some of these Eastern European countries may be experiencing a boom, but try telling that to the still huge amount of unemployed people or the average shop or factory worker who receives the same bare minimal wage whilst property prices all around increase!
Elliott Cassin, Poznan, Poland
In this era of globalization, nationalistic sentiments must cease to exist. No country is self-reliant - goods both raw and finished, fuel supplies, technology etc are all either shared or purchased from different corners. Along with goods and products, it is inevitable that people move too..we should learn to live and compete (yes, with all the immigrants) in this global society.
Let these nationalistic souls first shun all foreign made goods/technology and then talk about people sticking to their countries of origin.
Grow up!
jorj, Stuttgart, Germany
mr muller,
these people were attacked. By a group of 50 people. it does not matter whether they are econmic migrants or tourists or job huneters. such an act is despicable. it might be acceptable to you, if you already bear nationalistic socialist tendencies, but it is not to me, and to most cultured, intelligent, rational, tolerant law abiding people. i hope your attitutude is not indicative of the german norm.
sean, london,
Racism, xenophobia and other forms of prejudice are wrong wherever they occur, and most countries have a long history of it, whether in Germany, France, the United States, eastern Europe, Asia, etc. The people complaining about immigrants taking their jobs should stop moaning, give up their ignorant bigotry and get themselves an education and some professional skills/qualifications instead of blaming everything on foreigners and behaving like monsters. I am an American who has lived in Europe for nearly 30 years - and I have never been unemployed or lacked for work - and I wasn't too proud to work in menial jobs until I learned the languages I needed properly.
Monique Simmer, Hohen Neuendorf, Germany
Warren Muller/Art Ocone, I would have thought respect for people and their property should overshadow any 'frustration' at lack of jobs etc. Lots of people have difficult lives, but they dont all resort to mindless violence to better themselves.
For your information Indians are amongt the most successful ethnic groups in nearly every country in which they settle (look at the National Statistics website for the UK for proof of their educational and economic achievements).
You are descended from economic migrants who went to the USA and decimated the native population and consigned them to 'Reserves' like animals. So forgive me for labelling you as a hypocrite.
Neil, London,
I'm genuinely shocked by the venomous comments made here. Iâve seen what a mess multiculturalism has made of the UK, but yet I fundamentally believe in tolerance and understanding.
I dearly hope that the UKâs policy of multiculturalism doesnât lead the kind of hatred thatâs so obvious in your comments becoming commonplace elsewhere.
One final question...Do you honestly believe that itâs acceptable to attack someone for their race or religious beliefs, or would I have been attacked as well if Iâd travelled to Germany to work?
Dave, Gibraltar,
With all due respect but 'Herren' Warren Muller and Art Ocone - those are racist attitudes.
It is exactly those that create these problems in the first place.
In a global climate with global problems we cannot, should not and must not behave in an insular fashion.
Cornelia Hanning, Edinburgh, Scotland
u first go to australia
mulcar, mah, germany
As a German I am deeply ashamed of what is happening in this country.
On a sidenote: As an American, I would be ashamed of fellow countrymen like Art Ocone and Warren Mulller.
Markus Mietling, Cologne, Germany
I say we tell all Americans to stay in America. Seriously Neo-nazism is appearing more and more often in the News, especially in Eastern Europe. It's very worrying.
Matthew , Adelaide, , South Australia
