A schoolgirl who nearly provoked a constitutional crisis in the Irish Republic four months ago by demanding the right to travel to England for an abortion is pregnant again.
Miss D, as the courts called the Dublin teenager during a landmark legal battle in May, said it was a shock that she had become pregnant again so quickly. “I cried when I found out. It was a surprise. I know I said I wanted to get pregnant but I didn’t want it that soon. But I don’t regret it, I can’t wait,” she told the Irish Independent newspaper.
She was in the care of the Republic’s Health Service Executive (HSE) and four months pregnant when she was told her baby was suffering from anencephaly and would not survive outside the womb. The HSE contacted the police to prevent her leaving Ireland. She went to court and the judge ruled that the case was about the right to travel rather than the rights of the unborn child to life.
“I didn’t have an abortion, it was an induced labour,” she insisted in yesterday’s interview. The baby, whom she named Jasmine, died.

A truly anencephalic baby would be unable to eat or cry, or indeed to achieve consciousness, so the Brazil case (if genuine) cannot be anencephaly and must be something else. Many anencephalic babies, if born alive at all, have the brain tissue, such as it is, exposed. The baby is either still born or dies within a few hours, separate conscious life is impossible, as is anything but purely reflex activity, and many anencephalic babies lack any brain material at all and die the moment the umbilical cord is severed. Fortunately anencephalic babies are unable to feel pain, since the part of the brain responsible is missing.

An induces labor at 4 months pregnant IS ABORTION.Maybe it makes her feel better about by saying "induced labor" & def sounds better than abortion. Many women carry anencephalic babies to term, right now there is a 10 month old anencephalic baby alive in Brazil..she cries, eats, and everything else healthy babies do.

You would think that someone would have sat her down to go over the sex education she clearly missed the first time. Many girls (from the age of 12) were sexually active at school but they were the girls who had problems at home. When the school saw the signs of this we had our sex education given to us earlier. We also had extra activities put on to try and help those in the class lacking in confidence.
Also, the care system in which she has grown up in should be examined for their failings in looking after this girl. She has obviously not been cared for and this should be looked at to prevent this happening again. These children, without parents, deserve all the help from the state they can get. It's a crime that this has happened while she was under their care. It will have been decided that she should be place in care by the state, so the state has the obligation to provide the famework they decided the parents couldn't achieve. In this case the state has failed.

Larry in Denver.
You are missing the point.
1, No, she should have been pregnant in the first place at that age.
2, It is likely that she is Catholic, therefore, birth control is not allowed under Catholic religion (but then again neither is underage sex).
3, She was four months pregnant when she was told her baby was suffering from anencephaly and would not survive outside the womb - This is the reason why she had the baby induced - Jasmine would not have survived outside the womb, what is crueler, terminating after 4 months or giving birth and watching her child die straight away?

Hope she doesn't come to the UK to have an abortion as she has never lived here. Otherwise she will become a health tourist and be given preferential treatment at the expense of those who worked hard and have contributed to the NHS.
Daniel Fernandes, UK,
Larry, read the story again - the fetus was ANENCEPHALIC. That means it did not have a brain and had no chance at all of ever becoming conscious, even if it had enough brain stem to breath on its own. The pursuit of life, liberty and happiness? The anencephalic have very short lives as vegetables.
Except in Denver, apparently.
CD, London,
Has this person heard of the pill - or keeping her legs crossed?
She is hardly healed from the abortion - what is she thinking, and what kind of parents does she have - or is she just a nympho?
Julie, Montreal, Quebec, canada
Larry Heron, she didn't kill her child, read the article again. It suffered from a condition which meant it could not survive outside the womb. It died after an induced labour. Unfortunately it was always going to die. No-one has been murdered.
Clearly the shining light of Pro Life has tainted your vision.
Pu Li, Guangxi,
Children having children is moraly wrong. And people who support them are not installing the right messages to these kids ..Life matters!!! but only if you can provide for your offspring. This child has not understood that giving life to another is the just the start . The lesson that should have been learned was missed completely by this girl and the people advising her...

. Why did she want to get pregnant again if she KILLED her first child. Whatever happened to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happines?? Everyone has the right to live and abortion doesnt even give the chance to it. The definition of murder is one human being killing another. Baby's are humans inside the womb or wherever and abortion is killing them. Therefor ITS MURDER.
Larry Harron, Denver,
Why an individual such as this can cause so much angst
is beyond me. As for those having sex - the natural outcome
of sexual activity is a pregnancy - it is the way the human animal is programmed. Is that too difficult to understand.
