A drug dealer arrested in Germany on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Meredith Kercher will be flown back to Italy “within days” after deciding not contest his extradition.
Rudy Hermann Guede, 20, who has joint Italian-Ivory Coast nationality, was arrested on Tuesday on a train between Mainz and Wiesbaden, after boarding without a ticket.
His DNA was allegedly found on Ms Kercher’s body, as well as on lavatory paper in the bathroom at her house.
Mr Guede, appearing at a court in Koblenz, protested his innocence, but said that he would not fight extradition. He was remanded in custody while investigators await formal confirmation to send him back to Italy. He admitted that he had been to the cottage in Perugia which Ms Kercher shared with Ms Knox and two Italian female students, but denied he had been there on the night of the murder. Ms Kercher was found seminaked with her throat cut on November 2.
A bar owner who spent three weeks in prison on suspicion of murdering Ms Kercher said yesterday he would “never forgive” the American student who implicated him. Diay “Patrick” Lumumba, who was released on Tuesday, was detained after Amanda Knox, 20, said that she heard screams and thuds after he entered Ms Kercher’s room. The prosecutor in Perugia said yesterday that there were “no longer any serious indications linking Mr Lumumba to the crime.”
