PARIS France’s most eligible bachelor, President Sarkozy, received a public declaration of love and a marriage proposal from a celebrated Chinese singer and writer yesterday.

“I want to say to the President of France: choose me. I will be a perfect wife for you and I will love you in the way I love, my love,” Yang Erche Namu said in English in a video broadcast by French media.

Yang, 41, who is known as Namu, is a singer, television personality and former model. One of her books, about growing up in the matriarchal Moso minority in the Himalayas, reached The New York Times bestseller list in 2003. She was a judge on a recent Chinese Pop Idol.

In the video, posted on a French-owned Chinese news site, Namu says that she has long adored “Sarko”. She loves the President’s skin and his mouth and is “sure he must be a great kisser”.

“I know that he had a wife who did not help him at all. I think that I suit him much better,” she says. “He especially needs a girl like me to accompany him, who can bring him romance, and sing and dance for him.” The Elysée Palace had no comment on the proposal.
