An insider has joined the crew of hardcore French rappers who love to hate President Nicolas Sarkozy: Pierre, the President’s 23-year-old son.
It emerged yesterday that Sarko junior, a hip-hop producer who calls himself Mosey, has written a song for Poison, one of the angriest minstrels from the Paris banlieue ghettos.
Mr Sarkozy, as Interior Minister, ordered the prosecution of half a dozen rappers for insulting the police and became their bête noir with his drive to “clean out the layabouts” from the estates. His creation of a Ministry of National Identity further fired the anti-Sarko ire of the rap world.
When he was running for office, Mr Sarkozy persuaded “Mosey”, the elder of his two blond sons with his Corsican first wife, to stop wearing dreadlocks. But the former law student has persisted in his musical career, creating a label of his own called Crime Chantilly, a play on Crème Chantilly (Whipped Cream). His MySpace internet page description reads: “Hey I’m Mosey a young Parisian producer, with my crew: da Crime Chantilly, we produce hip hop, soul and rnb beatz. Credited on the dvd of Jamel Debouze 100%Debouze. Produced the hiphop track La rue by Poison.”
Poison confirmed in an interview with Radio Générations, a hip-hop station, that Mosey had written the track for his forthcoming album Mec de Tess (guy from the ’hood).
“I’m not a Sarkozy guy, I don’t give a s***,” said Poison, whose name is pronounced the English way. “The guy brought me some music. He does good sh**. I didn’t know at the start that it was the son of Sarko. When I found out, I blew a fuse and phoned him. He said ‘Yeah, but Poison, I didn’t wanna tell you ‘cos you wouldn’t wanna hang out wid me no more’. I told him, hey, no problem. You never done me wrong. We’ll bust nobody’s balls, we’ll just do good stuff.” In an anti-Sarkozy video with other rap singers last year, Poison chanted: “Anti-Sarko, anti-right, Nicolas don’t you hear. We’re anti-you.”
Young Sarko’s only previous reported musical appearance was as an industry guest at the European MTV Awards in Munich last November.
Despite his hip-hop career, the oldest Sarkozy child has tried to avoid publicity unlike to his brother, Jean, 20. He was in court a month ago to face prosecution for failing to stop after his motor scooter collided with a BMW. He combines his university studies with amateur theatre. Both brothers are helping David Martinon, Mr Sarkozy’s spokesman, in his campaign to win the President’s old seat as Mayor of suburban Neuilly in elections in March. While serving as Mr Sarkozy’s aide, Mr Martinon performed regularly with a rock band. He had no comment yesterday on Pierre.
The two older Sarkozy boys grew up in Neuilly, France’s richest borough, at the home of their mother MarieDominique Culioli, a Corsican. Mr Sarkozy divorced Ms Culioli in the early 1990s when he married Cécilia, his last wife — with whom he has one son, Louis, 11. The President, who is a fan of Elvis Presley has a new girlfriend in Carla Bruni, the model who had a hit in 2005 with an album of breathy love songs. The President is under fire for paying too much attention to Ms Bruni. He was due to face a two-hour press conference today amid rumours that the two are to be married next month.

You have to be from Kansas City to ignore that in Europe, are some of the worst urban ghettos. No surprise that hip hop, in all forms, has developped so much, Particularly in France where high rise projects and poverty have contributed to the development of the music there. The fact the Sarko's son is a music producer is really, bu really, not important and does not say anything about how hardcore our hip hop is or not.
Stay in Kansas.

jv, london,
Yes there are 'hardcore French rapper' in France but it is not funny at all, we would have prefered that rapper and rap culture had stayed in america.
lolo, Paris, France
Hey Kansas City, do you listen to hip hop? are you world-savvy? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then you're not well-educated. French hip hop is among the most socially conscious, and best-produced around today. Recommend you take a look at Tandem, Sefyu, all the Hostile records, and Fonky Family for starters.
Hardcore? That's right my man, get on the interwebs and get educated on Les Banlieues, Sarkozy's term as Minister of the Interior, his reference to Les emeutiers of 2005 as "scum", which seemed to be more broadly directed to ALL Banlieusard and (rightly) enraged France's abandoned ghetto dwellers. THAT is why, Jennifer of LA, that this story is worth printing, gossip or not.
At a minimum, break the American/English-centric attitude you have about Hip Hop and understand there's more than one narrative aside from Trick Daddy and more than one people that Hip Hop speaks to and for.

This is by far the funniest article I have ever read here! Hardcore FRENCH rappers?! ...and the president's SON is the producer?! I know you Brits don't agree with us on much, but can't we All just point and laugh at this one! They are SO "HARDCORE"! LOL LOL LOL

I guess it comes with the territory: while Sarkozy brings a new more approachable style to the office, he also brings more vulgarity in tow. Makes you wish for the days of M.Mitterand. Pour la gloire de France...

This is great stuff - an amusing spoilt (although very photogenic) son, the possibility of a presidential wedding and then a few years with Carla Bruni in the Elysee! Not since Bridget Bardot draped herself in the Tricolour has France looked like its having this much fun. Clearly a signal that France may actually be great again! Chapeau!

"He was due to face a two-hour press conference today......"
false. This is the annual president conference.
Arnaud, paris,
I'm not surprised that little Sarko wants to down play his connection to dear old dad; what i find surprising is that the elder Sarko would acknowledge the little git at all. It's to the elder statesman's credit, says I. (Kind words about a "father's heart" and all that.)
I hope the little Sarkling will grow up or dry up pretty soon.
BTW, Jennifer in LA, "23" and "20" don't qualify as "teenage" anymore; but, you're points a good one.
Cheers.

Young spoled trash coupled with lazy poor trash. Shocking.
Jason Samarco, Leeds,
Since when are we to believe a Myspace post when it comes to tracking down the identity of a person, let alone a rapper???
KarmaVision, Panama, Panama
Teenage boys who rebel against their father... how original! Who's ever heard of such a thing.
