Cover of Tintin in America is expected to be sold for €280,000

A 1932 oil painting, right, by the Belgian author Hergé for the cover of Tintin in America is expected to be sold for €280,000 (£220,000) at an auction of comic-book art.

The work is one of 650 originals being sold in Paris today and is set to beat the €177,000 record established by the auction of an illustration by the French science fiction artist Enki Bilal from his 1994 work Blue Blood.

An expert from the Artcurial gallery, which is organising its annual spring auction, said that the market for comic-book art was booming. “People are no longer ashamed to say they collect [it],” he said. (AFP)
