Georgia has warned Russia that it will be in violation of an EU-brokered peace plan unless it withdraws from a disputed area of South Ossetia held by Tbilisi before August’s war.
Under the plan, Russian forces have until tomorrow to pull back from buffer zones around Georgia’s rebel regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia to positions held before the conflict.
Yesterday, the Georgian Interior Ministry confirmed that Russian forces had withdrawn from the buffer zones. But the Russians were still controlling access to the Akhalgori district, which lies in the eastern part of South Ossetia as determined by the region's Soviet-era borders.
“The position of the Georgian government is firm and clear: The Russians are not meeting their obligations if they do not withdraw from Akhalgori by October 10 at the latest,” Alexander Lomaia, secretary of Georgia’s National Security Council, said.
The Akhalgor district was controlled by Tbilisi prior to the August war, but it is now mostly held by Russia’s separatist allies. Moscow has recognised South Ossetia as an independent state and plans to maintain 3,800 soldiers there.
Russia’s recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states in late August infuriated Georgia and was condemned in most of the world.

I suspect the author of the History book you've read is Mr. Vladimir Putin. Please, don't go too far, as you can easily read it in Wikipedia ;) but I suggest to find it by its historical name "Samachablo" (S.Osetia)

It is very funny that 1 000 000 of georgians prefer to live in Russia than in "democratic" Georgia. Funny, very funny....
Please drink glass of Borjomi and calm down...

It is very funny that Russians from Novosibirsk know what part of Georgian land Tbilisi was controlling before the war. It is also funny that some think thet s.ossetia was a part of Russia. astonishing imagination.

dear markwilliams,
how is the USA involved in this mess?amusing...
It was the US that had armed and trained the Georgian military, it was the US that had urged Georgia to attack South Ossetia. and it was Russia that successfully helped S.Ossetia repel the assault. as easy as that
Jane, Muenchen, Deutschland
Ossetia was part of Russian many decades, only 1920 Lenin gave Ossetia to Georgia, and in 50's USSR leader gave Sevastopol city to Ukraine. November 7, 2007 was oppositions demonstration in Georgia, was destroyed by Saakashvily, what kind of democracy it is?

"Georgia warns Russia"- is not it funny!
Igor, Krasnodar,
The article is incorrect.
it states that Tbilisi held control over South ossetia and Abkhazia prior to the august conflict - that is absolutely incorrect.
Tbilisi has had absolutely no control over either of the two regions ever since the early 90s when they proclaimed independence.

My god it looks like an antiques roadshow there...watching Russia's 'war machine' in action is like watching a quadraplegic in a boxing match...
matthew, London,
For gods sake stop this moaning.
