1. It’s Barack O-bum-a! Bloggers have been united in outrage at a photo that appears to show President Obama checking out Mayara Tavares, 17, a Brazilian delegate to the Junior 8 conference.
2. Ms Tavares was one of fourteen teenagers who met world leaders at the G8 summit in L’Aquila, Italy, as part of the parallel J8 meeting, which is dedicated to discussing the concerns of young people.
3. The New York Post has been making jokes about the President’s “stimulus package” under the headline “tail to the chief”.
4. The full video evidence appears to acquit the President of “frequenting under-age girls” – the charge laid against the summit host, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, by his wife Veronica Lario.
5. Footage taken by ABC News seems to show that President Obama was actually turning to help the American J8 delegate, Emmanuella Louidsor, 17, down the steps of the dais.
6. It’s a little harder to explain the leer on the face of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The video appears to catch him craning behind Mr Obama to watch Ms Tavares’s posterior all the way up the steps. His wife, Carla Bruni, arrived in L’Aquila late on Thursday, after skipping the early stages of the summit. She is unlikely to be impressed.
7. Michelle Obama, by contrast, had an audience with the Pope yesterday secure in her husband’s continued saintliness.
8. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva shows no sign of rushing to defend the honour of his countrywoman. He did, however, give Mr Obama a Brazil football shirt signed by the players who beat the USA in the final of the Confederations Cup. Mr Obama, perhaps through gritted teeth, declared himself delighted.
9. Meanwhile, as the O-bum-agate debate heated up, world leaders pledged to spend $20 billion (£12 billion) on food for the world’s poor, a day after uniting to agree measures on climate change. Among the pledges was the statement that the globe should not heat up by more than two degrees centigrade. Mr Sarkozy, it seems, is already feeling a little hot under his collar.
