PETER ROBINSON, the deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist party, has warned of possible Drumcree-style stand-offs between the Orange Order and the PSNI at a series of Belfast parades, writes Liam Clarke.

The first that may be affected is the “mini twelfth” on July 1, which has been banned by the Parades Commission because of a dispute over application forms.

Robinson said there could also be confrontations in east Belfast. The four marches in question are usually attended by about 20,000 people.

Normally there is only trouble at Orange parades if they pass near nationalist areas that object to them. This year trouble could hit other routes.

March organisers must now be identified on application forms. The Orange Order is filling in the names of the lodge or district organising each parade but the commission is insisting that the names of individual officials be given.

Last year two senior Orangemen who signed an application form were questioned under caution over alleged breaches of parade guidelines.
