ALGIERS Six people were killed and nearly 30 injured in bombings in Algeria yesterday.
There were at least seven attacks, including car bombings, in which two police officers died and ten were injured. A police station in Boumerdãs, 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of the capital, Algiers, was severely damaged by a car bomb before dawn.
Police said that another 16 people were injured in Tizi Ouzou, 90 kilometres east of Algiers.
The Government did not say who it believed was behind the attacks, nor were there any immediate claims of responsibility. However, an al-Qaeda-aligned Islamic insurgent group, the Salafist Group of Call and Combat, is active in the country.
The group carries out regular bomb attacks in Algeria and raises funds in Europe for al-Qaeda’s operations in Iraq.
In December the group carried out a bomb attack on buses carrying foreign workers, killing an Algerian bus driver and wounding nine passengers. (AP)

What a surprise, more innocents killed by islamists.
charlie thomson, singapore,
One of the richest Arab nations has been going down hill from the first day that the nationalists began their campaign of terror against French rule. It hardly had a moment of peace since the early 50's. The radicals will make sure it goes back to the days of the old Emir of Algiers.
