Drawing on a trove of private papers from Hillary Clinton’s best friend, the legendary Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein is to publish a hard-hitting and intimate portrait of the 2008 presidential candidate, which will reveal a number of “discrepancies” in her official story.
Bernstein, who was played by Dustin Hoffman in the film All the President’s Men, has spent eight years researching the unauthorised 640-page biography, A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“Bernstein reaches conclusions that stand in opposition to what Senator Clinton has said in the past and has written in the past,” said Paul Bogaards, a spokesman for Knopf, which publishes the book on June 19.
With the thoroughness for which he is famous, Bernstein spoke to more than 200 of Clinton’s friends, colleagues and adversaries. He stops short of accusing the New York senator of blatantly lying about her past, but has unearthed examples of where she has played fast and loose with the facts about her “personal and political life”, according to Knopf.
The book could revive the explosive charge, made earlier this year by David Geffen, a former Clinton donor and Hollywood mogul, that “the Clintons lie with such ease, it’s troubling”.
Clinton remains the frontrun-ner for the Democratic presidential nomination, but Barack Obama, who is keeping pace with her fundraising juggernaut, is closing the gap in the polls.
The Sunday Times has learnt that Bernstein has been given unprecedented access to the private papers of Diane Blair, Clinton’s closest friend and confidante, who died of lung cancer aged 61 in 2000. The collection is still being sorted at the University of Arkansas library and is not yet available to the public.
Bernstein has been delving through Blair’s copious records of the 1992 presidential election campaign, which could offer tantalising insight into Bill Clinton’s war machine and Hillary’s reaction to news of her husband’s dalliance with the nightclub singer Gennifer Flowers in Arkansas.
Hillary denied all knowledge of the affair, but one writer who has followed her career closely said: “She always knew about her.” He added: “Anyone who has approached the subject of Hillary Clinton with a clear eye will run across many examples of stories that are not true.”
Blair, a professor of political science, crisscrossed the country with the Clintons in 1992, serving as a senior adviser and semiofficial historian of the campaign. She became friends with Hillary in the political backwater of Little Rock, Arkansas, in the 1970s, when the two East Coast-educated power women sought each other out as soulmates.
Hillary went on to serve as “best person” at her friend’s marriage to Jim Blair, who had a walk-on part in the scandals of the Clinton White House when it emerged he had helped the former first lady make $100,000 in cattle futures.
Joe Klein, the bestselling author of Primary Colors, recounted how Blair once witnessed a blazing row between Bill and Hillary Clinton. “They were really, really angry with each other,” she told him. “And then suddenly, the president took her in his arms and began kissing her all over her face and he said, ‘God, what would I do without you?’ I felt kind of embarrassed being there.”
When Blair was diagnosed with lung cancer, Clinton was running for the Senate in New York. In her memoir, Living History, she writes about seeing her friend for the last time in an Arkansas hospice. “She pressed my hand tightly and whispered to me, ‘Don’t ever give up on yourself and what you believe in. Take care of Bill and Chelsea. They need you. And win this election for me’.”
Bernstein is known as a liberal Democrat who fiercely opposes the war in Iraq and is likely to be critical of Clinton’s Senate vote to authorise the war. His marriage to Nora Ephron, the screen-writer, broke up when he had an affair with Baroness Jay, the daughter of former prime minister James Callaghan.
For years Bernstein suffered from writer’s block, but Knopf is promoting his biography as a triumphant return to form. Publisher Sonny Mehta said his portrait would “show us, for the first time, the true trajectory of Hillary Clinton’s life and career”. It will be published simultaneously in Britain by Hutchinson.
According to the publishers, it will cover everything from Clinton’s “complex relationship with her disciplinarian father” to “her courtship with Bill Clinton and the amazing dynamic of their marriage, during the most trying of circumstances”.
Clinton’s relationship with the truth has frequently come under scrutiny. William Safire, a conservative columnist in The New York Times, provoked a storm in the 1990s when he accused the first lady of being a “congenital liar”. Bill Clinton let it be known that if he were not president, he would punch Safire on the nose.
While the senator continues to lead Barack Obama, her nearest rival, in the polls - most recently by 36% to 31% in an NBC/Wall St Journal survey - she continues to be dogged by high ratings for “unfavourability”.
She is the most assured Democratic candidate on the campaign trail, as she proved in a televised debate with her rivals for president in South Carolina last week. But while Washington commentators declared her the obvious victor, television viewers in the state put Obama on top, suggesting there remains considerable voter-resistance to her charms.
In an effort to boost her campaign, Clinton said last week that she would appoint her husband ambassador to the world if elected to the White House. “I can’t think of a better cheer-leader for America than Bill Clinton, can you?” she said.
Bernstein’s biography is likely to touch some raw nerves. One writer who has crossed swords with Clinton advises Bernstein to watch his back. “She has the most powerful war machine that has ever been developed and it is led by people who have been to hell and back.”
I LOVE reading what all the nervous, leftist pseudointellectual "victims" out there are writing about Hillary. Some are defending her incompetence and corruption, while at the same time crying like silly, petty children over how they are being victimized by the "corrupt" GOP and Bush. Others are scared that she is too much like the Neocons, and have their panties in a bind about who to vote for, her or Osama. They would never vote for a Republican because, despite their hypocritical braying about being open-minded and tolerant, they have no problems stereotyping and demonizing Republicans of every ilk. This is why myself and many Republicans are ECSTATIC that we will run against this two-faced succubus called Hillary because once we get our nominee selected, and get our shit together, we can easily make her look like the devil herself. GO CLINTON!
LA Doc, Manhattan Beach, CA
The Republican Party needs reform in the respect that it too is now over-bloated government, taking and spending too much of the tax payers money. And as soon as the government takes care of you, (healthcare wise) restrictions to your life will apply, it's called welfare. The more we Americans allow government intrusion the less free we will be...always, always, always. When we stop coloring ourselves red or blue, that's when we can fix the government intrusion in our lives. Democrat or Repulican, they are theives in the night slowly taking away our freedoms. May I suggest Googling 'American Solutions'.

Nowhere except in the minds of men is it written that women must define themselves by the measure of fidelity their husbands show. To do so would give credence to the fact that women are little more than an extension of "their man."
Whether Hillary knew of the affair or not is irrelevant to the extent of her ability to do anything about it, or perhaps, to her lifestyle and the manner in which she conducted it at the time.
Hillary has never claimed to be a "headless woman" as they are portrayed in America or throughout the world. The fact that she isn't headless is both a credit to her gender, and to the fact that women need not fall victim to the male-oriented pandering that traps so many women. That her husband appears to understand this unwritten code between them may be shocking to the world but consistent with Hillary's self respect to refuse to succumb to groveling before the world that would place her and every other women in so finely-tuned a box.
Why should she?
Pat, Boston, MA
I actually read the book. Wonder if all the people commenting did? Bernstein seems fair in evaluating the Clintons; tells the good, bad, and in between. As for the very few commentators here who praise our current pres., feel free to go to Iraq and fight, and have all members of your family go fight with you in Bush's War.

Berstein's book is masterfully written. Clinton haters better get ready; this lady is going to be our next president.

Very true.....please dont vote for Hillary people!

Dang, bad timing on this thing for Hillary. Hopefully she has learned to handle the press by now - she used to be so inept. I'm not in love with her but I've got to give her her due; the kind of lying she has been caught at has been minor - you recall for years Ken Starr tried to take them down and couldn't because they were basically clean. I have thought this run she's making is too damned soon - I wish she would have just stuck in the senate a bit longer. How is she going to manage her senate seat while she is campaigning?

As a woman I'd like to say I would never vote for Hillary and it has nothing to do with her genitals. I'm not voting for the president's genitals, but what's in his/her brain.
I remind you of the fact HIllary couldn't remember anything when she was being questioned in court. Mrs. Jello brains misplaced important documents and they weren't found for 2 years. Later poor wittle Mrs. Clinton was embarrassed to discover she'd been tricked by the bad Mr. Bush? Ha. I say again. Ha! Because either she's lying or she's stupid. And if she's so stupid he can trick her into backing a war when she by her own words clearly voted for it after carefully reviewing everything so she said, well then anyone from anywhere can trick her. Heck she just might be tricked into giving away the whole country.
Smartest? No. Crafty and clever, yes because she some people snowed blind even when the truth is out there in her own words in technicolor. Wake up and smell the KY

during the first Clinton administration we had a good rally on wall street, then that bubble burst, a few years later, 9/11, taking the war to the terrorist, and all the while one of the lowest unemployment percentages in history, stock market breaking new highs, corporations more profitable, thanks Bill, oh wait, the successes over the last 6 or so years, were not because of Clinton and his policies. I for one can not stand the rhetoric being thrown around in the papers and on the news, only history will tell if the choices made by POTUS were the correct ones I believe they were and will not vote for anyone without a clear understanding that fighting terrorism is not the "soup of the day".
Take the handcuffs off of the military and allow them to take the fight to these terrorist anywhere but on our own soil.

For all that makes Hillary Clinton the political overseer that she wishes to be, the more we obviously need to have Sen. Obama become our next president. Sen. Obama's obvious ability to bring all parties to the table is what we need both at home and abroad. We have been suffering for the past 8 years with a heavy hand at the helm. I firmly believe that Sen. Obama is the only candidate who has the capacity to mend our foreign relationships, as well as create an environment in Washington that will allow us to mend the ills that our country faces.
Polls be damned! It is no longer about democrat or republican, its about the capacity to create value in any situation and only Sen. Obama has shown he is capable of doing so.
Val McCall, West Hartford, USA
Hillary is the smartest and most qualified candidate, but she will never win for one reason and one reason only - she's female. The Neanderthals in this country won't stand for it and, of course, the women who have never learned to support each other won't either. They'd rather snipe at each other and critique the senator's appearance instead of her abilities and intelligence. The double standard is alive and well. Obama talks a good game, but what is he going to be able to do once he gets to D.C. - absolutely nothing! The snakes in that city on both sides of the aisle will cut him off at the knees. They just need your vote and then American people be damn.

at least the coming election season will be FUN... Hitlery's national campaigning will remind voters why they made sure to keep the house and senate firmly in control of Republicans while Slick was prez... It may happen that she or another democrat becomes president, but I expect an accross the board revolt--- house, senate, govenorships, and state houses will become more solidly republican. The "solid south" will continue to expand... just a prediction. Keeping in mind the Clintons/DNC manage to lose the house and senate, as well as a majority of state leadership positions after only 2 years in the white house the first time. Her election wont be the the end of the world as we know it, but the first 2 years will be the most critical and it is that window that must be most closely guarded.
Flint, Heflin, AL
Hillary? I like her and, as opposed to what your article states, most South Carolinians who saw the debate here, thought she came out on top.
She's tough, she's quick, she's smart. Hey, she's even experienced. And if she becomes President, we get Bill on the side.
The worst thing Hillary has going for her is that she's a woman. Get over it!
Mary Crawford, South Carolina, USA
Hillary has no conjested romours about anything. She appears clean.
The opinion of about 200 odd people shows she is good. So what is the complain. I fail to see anything wrong with her becoming president and Clinton will not come back. He will be too old by the time Hillary finishes the term
Firozali A.Mulla MBA PhD, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
While Mr. Clinton is easily one of the best presidents America ever had, one cannot the same about Mrs. Clinton. She comes across as cold and aloof. With everything calculated to win the White House.
So I hope she does not win. I think her win will be bad for America and the world.

There was some research published before John Kerry lost, that the best looking presidential candidate always wins.
Hillary is such an eyesore that she'll never get back to the whitehouse...well, unless a muppet runs against her, of course.

Dear Ms. Boyd:
I think that Ms. Blair would be far more "apaulled" to know that one of her students has yet to learn to spell, and seems to be unfamiliar with the concept of a question mark. I myself am similarly appalled that anyone could be so clueless as to castigate the public for refusing to leave the Clintons alone. On the contrary madame, it is they who will not leave us alone. With the tenacity of a fungus, they have burrowed their way under the national toe nail, and are impervious to any attempts to oust them.
Isabelle Gauvry, Philadelphia, USA/PA
Clinton would take many more steps in the direction of destroying America. She would grow government, try to make health care a function of the government, raise taxes to do it, and promote socialism instead of individual responsibility and opportunity.
Tom, Marietta, GA
Since when is raising taxes the litmus test for a good leader? Bush has created the DHS and from where most people sit, they dont feel any more secure than in 2001.
If raising taxes $50 on everyone solved that problem, then you should be willing to pay it.
The problem is not Hillary, Obama, etc, its that the entire system has degenerated inton one that abuses the public trust and the reputation of our nation for personal or party gain.
As long as this remains the case, the only thing that will matter is if someone runs to change it all and can actually be elected..............and then does what they said they would do...........
Nick, chicago, Ill.
If Hillary gets elected to office we will see the Saprano's reruns again but the program will be retitled the "Clintons".There will be some changes in leading characters, Hilliary will take the role of Mafia Don who will be knocking every one off who comes in her way. And Bill will be running around the world sharing his love making techniques. Old habits die young and plus Hilllary will want Bill as far away as possible so he does not disrupt the white house. But if you look the way our country is run the big banks decide who gets elected... anyone to push the one world order agenda.... so that makes Clinton or Juliani prime candidates .
Josh, manhattan, New York
I would prefer that neither Mr. Clinton nor Mrs. Clinton have any ability to affect U.S. foreign policy EVER. He was ineffectual in that area and his tepid response to various attacks on this country by Al Qaeda during his presidency led directly to emboldening them, thus 9/11.
As to Mrs. Clinton's rather terrifying ability to play fast and loose with the truth - she's a politician for heaven's sakes! What did you expect, people? Are you daft, naive or just brain-numbed?
And WHY on earth has the campaign commenced so doggone early? I'm still exhausted from 2006! Didn't we deserve a YEAR off?
Gayle, Columbus, OH
If this book had been written by Woodward, I'd say it would be worth a read. However, Bernstein !!! I don't think so. Whatever got his writing juices going again, I wouldn't take to the bank. Mighty big topic that's bringing him out of the woods. Of course, if you're looking for publicity, she would be a good topic. I'm not a fan of Hilary's ... but I can most certainly see two sides to whoever she is personally. More importantly, we need a President to can speak English, thinks about what they say, and is a consensus builder. Let's hope U.S. voters can focus.

A platoon of American scientists goes ballistic researching to prove that men and women are different even at the brain level, and the first conclusion is that men are more left brain users, that is, sequential logical, and women are more right brain users, that is, non-sequential logical thinkers. Another bunch of American scientists determine that great people in management positions need to be right brain specialists. Yet Americans balk at the first (Geraldine Ferrero) and second (Hillary Rodham Clinton) every opportunity to get a woman in presidency, even after many other nations have had very competent and history-making women in top leadership, from Israel to all nations of South Asia, and now even more than the one solitary U.K. as far as Europe goes. Americans, like Vatican, find every possible excuse to keep women out, just as other races are kept out.
Dr. J. Gokhale, Bangalore, ,
Go-for-it Carl! For those of us who see the danger that a Hillary presidency would pose for the "long-term health of the nation" -- it is time for us to help Obama become the Democratic nominee. Despite her huge negatives, Hillary could still win the presidency on the sheer strength of the female/feminist vote who'd like to see a woman president above all else. Despite Obama's good performance so far, he is beatable by a Rudy G.or a McCain on the basis of sheer inexperience. -- Worried about an Obama-Clinton ticket? I would submit that Hilary's ego would never allow it.
J. Adriano, Portland, Oregon
Mrs Clinton is a politician and a good one, but that is not what is needed now to fill the American Presidency.
What is needed she does not have and never will.
Papa Ray, West Texas, Texas
Sorry folks, greed and lust for power for it's own sake is NOT a qualification for elected office, especially the Presidency. There are far too many unanswered questions from Hillary, and "I don't recall" is NOT an answer it is an obvious evasion from a person with much to hide. Maybe this book will answer some of the questions...time will tell.
Texan, San Antonio, The Republic of Texas
I am glad that Carl Bernstein has written this book based on TRUE FACTS about Senator Clinton, and former President Clinton. I hope, pray that what many have discovered, known for some time about the Clintons and their dealings will be able to be made public as possible.
This way the people/voters can see the true Hillary Clinton before they vote in 2008. Mr.Bernstein has a sound literary foundation & reputation, and I think it is about time someone shined the light on the Clintons and their questionable past and present dealings!

You voted for George W ... twice!
Brad, Coffs,
You do not have to write another book about Hilary for the thinking man (or woman) to know what you are getting. She has been on this pathway to become the first woman president for many years and she will do and say anything to get there. To the person who says men are not comfortable with a woman in power, I can tell you I was and still am a huge supporter of Margaret Thatcher for what she did to save Britain from where France is now heading (unless Sarkozy can halt the fall) Unfortunately the British seem to have not learnt from that lesson, but that's not the topic here. I think it will take 4 years of Hilary for the US to realise she is exactly what you do not want or need. Sorry to be so fatalist! I still expect to pick up my 100 bucks bet that she will be the next president of the USA.

"The Royal Nonesuch" continues to play despite bad reviews. I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, and if this is any indicator of how the mainstream feels, the Clinton campaign is in trouble. My Black wife is voting for Obama. Most of our African heritage friends do not trust White Liberals. they feel that they are vapid and phony, and forget the Black community the day after the election. I'd like to see Colin Powell run on the republican side. I Am thoroughly sick of the Bushies, but see the Dems as no viable anti-dote. Hillary is seen as the Distinguished Senator From Barbie World. Or, better yet, the Miss Havisham of American Politics. I will vote for whoever opposes her.

Bernstein's book only goes to prove that ALL politicians lie, which is a fact that everybody already knows anyway.
Whether Bernstein's book will damage Hillary's presidential campaign is doubtful. It probably will not sway those who approve of her already. As for the rest, simply relfect on the lack of impact that Michael Moorer's film "Farenheit 9-11" had on the outcome of the last presidential election, and then consider that far fewer American voters read books than attend movies.
As I recall, those Americans who approved of G. W. Bush simply refused to see F. 9-11. Most of the Americans who did see the film had already dissaproved of the candidate before they ever entered the theater.
By the same token, I feel that Bernstein's book will be read avidly by those who already dissaprove of Hillary Clinton, and be just as avidly ignored by those who approve of her.
Klaatu, Tappan, New York, U.S.A.
I'm not sure what is meant by saying Senator Clinton's "charms." The problem is, and the reason why she in a sense lost the first debate to Obama was because her answers were so practiced and staid. She is less verbose than John Kerry, but no less wooden in her delivery.
Whereas Obama is positively "Clinton-esque" in his mannerisms. He was very good in the debate, especially as it was his first presidential debate ever. Obama is a serious candidate and though I'm a conservative and have no intention of voting for a democrat for president, he will almost certainly be on the presidential ticket in 2008, either running for President or VP.
I just don't think Clinton is a good choice for President. I don't think enough people will vote for her and even with Obama as the VP on the ticket, I think when it comes time to debate someone like Rudy Guliani, Mitt Romney, or John McCain, all of whom are likely candidates at present, she'll not debate well.
David Flanagan, Annapolis, MD
No more dynasties: no more Kennedys, no more Bush, and no more Clintons. We need to remember that we are a democray not a monarchy. We have too many government people and "celebrity personalities" who believe they are entitled to govern.
Both political parties have abondoned reality, honesty and integrity in favor of "virtual truth". It you don't like the facts , simply make up your own. A media more hungry for air time and sound bytes than fact and objectivity is complicit.
The government and media both treat the people of this nation as if we have an IQ slightly higher than a brick, and a memory with a 30 day capacity. Because they themselves apparently have no knowledge of history doesnt mean the rest of don't.

Hillary's the Great Feminist Icon who got to where she is by marrying Bill, riding his coattails & covering for him because her own power was at stake. She's brilliant, but whenever something embarrassing happens, she can never remember anything and never knows what's going on around her.
She got to run the Health Care task force despite having no experience at all (her main qualification was that she was married to Bill) and failed because she acted like she knew everything and wouldn't listen to anyone else. She put her own ego ahead of the health care of millions of Americans. Her party lost control of Congress for 12 years because of her and yet she's still a star.
She railed against the DPW deal as a threat to our security at the same time her husband and partner was trying to get it approved behind the scenes. When asked about it, she says what she always says: she didn't know.
She is all image- and it's mostly a phony image.

Yes, all politicians lie. But, it is still incumbent on voters to make some rational assessment of a candidate's character. I will read the book with interest before drawing any firm conclusions.
I do feel that if Hillary doesn't get the nomination, it won't be because shee is a woman. Last time I looked, woman comprised the majority of voters in the US.

As I review commentary on CB's coming book, I observe the following...
With regard to President Bush (43), there are two kinds of people - those who admire him; and those who dispise him.
With regard ti Hillary Clinton, there are two kinds of people - those who dispise President Bush; and those who dispise her.
Something is missing from this equation.
Walt, Bethany Beach, DE
If Hillary wins, we will end up with twenty-four to twenty-eight years of presidential leadership arising out of only two families. That will stifle the country. We have tremendous diversity in our population and in our political ranks, and we should take advantage of it.
Also, it seems there has never been more political animosity than since the election of Bill Clinton in 1992, and Sen. Clinton has been in the thick of that ugliness. There has been too much divisiveness, too much suspicion and scorn, too much political gamesmanship, too little respect for the president, and too little progress on important issues that our government is supposed to be addressing. Clearly, this will continue if Sen. Clinton is elected president. The only hope for improvement is to bring in someone who is not associated with either the Clintons or the Bushes someone who does not instantly alienate half the country.
David, Arizona, USA
I don't agree with everything that Hillary espouses or recommends, but I admire her guts. As a woman, she needs twice as much guts to run for President than any man. People like Bernstein will be examining every little remark she has made and every time she raised her voice, because she has had the guts to speak her mind.
It is too bad Bernstein didn't write a book about Bush or Cheney before the 2000 election. The world would have benefited. They would never have had the chance to deceive Congress and the American people into going to war.
By the way, the comment made about Hillary not being experienced as a CEO or head of business is ridiculous. As if Bush or Cheney were more qualified because of their business background? Was Abraham Lincoln a CEO? Our country is about more than making a fortune in money.

When did Carl Bernstein join the vast right wing conspiracy?
Hillary Clinton, Washington, DC,
The first comment I see recasts America: "Being President of the U.S. is like being CEO of the largest corporation in the world. "
While Bush treats it like America, Inc., with himself as CEO, even he is discovering that it's a tripartite government of a society with the elected Congress serving as check and balance on his will to power.
The goal of America is not to record profits, but to offer her citizens a just society in which equal opportunity is available to everyone.
Ms. Clinton need not have been management in the corporate jungle to bring intelligence, diplomacy and compassion to the role of leading a nation.
Nearly any of the announced Democratic candidates looks far better than Bush. We Americans can hardly wait for him to go.
If Hillary earns the trust of the people, and wins the election, it will indeed be a watershed moment for America.

The 19th paragraph writes to the conclusion of Washington commentors seeing a clear victory for Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic debate. Then continues to state the polling results showing results favoring Obama "on top". It continues to conclude this observation as an indication of voter resistence.
I suggest other more logical conclusions be: Washington commentors have favorable bias toward Mrs. Clinton and the polled voters to have a favorable bias toward Obama.
To whose chagrin is it that commentors comment one way and voters vote the other? To whom are the voters resistening, not the commentors comments, oh my?

Hillary Clinton has never been head of even a small business, so she does not have the necessary experience to be president. End of story. Her radical political philosophies should not matter. Judge candidates by their ability to lead a dynamic, multi-faceted organization in the middle of a world with a good portion of people out to destroy us.
DrK, Beacon, USA/New York
Is there a politician alive or dead (most obviously the current person calling himself POTUS) that hasn't "lied" or "had discrepancies"? I think not. Hilary Clinton has nerves of steel, a cool head in the face of adversity, and "on-her-feet" decision making. Presidential qualities? I think so. As for Sarah Baxter irresponsively choosing the word "demolishes" in her headline; good luck trying to demolish Hillary - not gonna happen.
Dolores , Los Angeles, CA
Hillary compared to the like's of Dick Fox News Morris?
We have a war in Iraq that should never have happened that was started by draft dodgers. We have a government where the President doesn't read, can''t speak, listens to no one, and is surrounded by croonies.
Hillary or Obama either one is better than this soon to be 8 year mess that 30 percent of the Republican party still thinks is acceptable!
Will S, Seattle, us/washington
I don't know either Hillary or Bill personally. The woman is a socialist. I wish to retain what remains of our republic. And I voted Libertarian in the last 2 elections, so spare me the accusations of being a Bush stalwart.
Steve, Temple , Georgia
Mr Bernstein will be saying precious little that well informed readers don't already know. I guess the difference is that, being such a left wing Democrat, he will get blind as a bat liberals to FINALLY wake up and take a good long look at who they are getting ready to put in the White House for another four years. For that, the man deserves a medal

C'mon folks, anyone who doesn't already know that "Clinton" is a synonym for "talented liar" is wearing blinders! Coming from such liberal elite as David Geffen and Carl Bernstine should cause even the deaf and blind to begin to understand the depth of that "talent".
Charles, Dallas, Texas
America broke away from England and the system of Monarchy. In England we see the Tudors, the Stuarts and the Winsors rotating authoriy through the centuries. We certainly do not need to replicate this in our nation with the House of Bush and the House of Clinton!! Certainly, there must be more qualified candidates for President in our great nation.
R.S. Billstein, St. Louis, MO/USA
Hillary stayed married. That's why her promiscuous opponents on her left and right hate her so much. They're jealous of her, plain and simple. She has kept her marriage together, instead of running to divorce court.
Tom Smythe, Farthington-on-the-Thames, England
THE WORLD NEEDS AL GORE NOW. America pollutes this globe too much, and thats the threat to the future of American politics. Not a woman who 'stood by her man' (is liking country music a prerequisite for being American?) or some illiterate oil fiend. America and the world needs someone who's in it for the planet, for the future, and not for their own sibling/spouse rivalry.
Louise, London,
To the gentleman who said that there must be something true about all these anti-Clinton stories, since where there is smoke there must be fire: No. Where there is smoke, politically speaking, there is lots and lots of money. Several years and several million dollars of Richard Scaife's money failed to turn up any wrongdoing on the part of either Clinton...except a politically motivated impeachment because he lied about a consensual affair.
I will vote for Ms Clinton, or Mr. Obama, or Mr. Edwards...I will NEVER vote for anyone whose last name is Bush. Bush destroyed this country to enrich those who were already rich. He has utter contempt for our constitution. W is the real disgrace.
Michele, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
It will be telling to note who the Clinton defenders are when the sniping gets started in earnest after the release of this tome of Bernstein's. Will it be the old stalwarts or some new, unknown faces looking to improve their own political bonafides for future campaign lucre, regardless how madame's works out? Let's not be fooled, Hillary was the iron lady behind the curtain insuring the success of Bill. She has no leadership skills nor is she capable of being an effective President. She is a formidable campaigner-period. My opinion has nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her poor character and ruthless political ambition.
Bruce Love, New York, NY
A government Of the People, For the People. One Nation under God
Nice words that look pretty on some old parchments. Unfortunately it is more of an example of how badly the US bipartisan political system is broken. Lets try Of the People, For ME & One Nation under _____ <fill in the blank but dont you dare reference some higher deity!>
Hillary is more about how she can be benefited by being president then about how she can benefit the country. There are NO democrats nor republicans that care about the US. This election will not be about voting FOR some one as much as it will be voting AGAINST someone.

Liberals love to contradict themselves, therefore so does Hilary. They sing loud praises to healthcare, education, and various other human rights, but how often do these liberals in office actually give? Most of hollywood is liberal as well and yet we see actors alongside diplomats like Al Gore raising money to send to Africa when we at home know that the 10 or so people asking for money have more money put together than any amount they'd raise. Hilary, however is also a politician, and they always lie, despite who they are, or party, there is always a lie.
I would rather see hell freeze over than another Clinton or Bush in office, or just study abroad for 4 years.
mark, Washington DC,
The Clintons ARE very intelligent, don't think otherwise. I doubt there has EVER been a more politically intelligent tandem in our country's history. There is a side to them that is rarely seen, and NEVER reported on, in terms of how they respond to negative questioning into their political aspirations. It will be interesting to see how Bernstein does in the face of that. I'm a conservative libertarian and personally feel she's the best choice on the democratic side. The 'means to the end' mindset seems to have been a running constant to both of the Clintons. In that, another sign of their intelligence is seen perhaps?
Gary, Columbia, SC
So, a sad old man, who is desperate to re-live a moment in his time, takes on Hilary Clinton. Now. let's be realistic about this; Hilary Clinton is an easy target. However, for an easy target, she has been missed; not may times, but all of the time., I, and all intelligent people,. have no interest in her personal life. In the end, it is simple. We need to look at the economy of the USA after Clinton's reign and, then, look at it now! If Hilary had anything to do with her husband's success, America needs her! If not, America needs the man beside her. If you care about who's screwing whom, you are really sad!
Marc, St. Barthelemy, France
Ambassador to the World... This sounds a lot like a President of Foreign Policy to me.... Isn't there a term limit to Presidents.... Are we allowed to have 4-8 more years of Bill Clinton as President?
I know Hillary will keep him on a short leash, it has always worked for her before, right?
Seriously, this is crazy. I am sick of the nepotism that is rampant in the US, it seems. I do not want to see Bush, Clinton (X2) , Bush (X2), Clintons.... That is not how a democracy runs, That sounds more like a power-sharing Oligarchy.
Jim, New Haven, CT, USA
When will people start to understand exactly who Hillary really is? She is the enemy within. America stands no chance of survival if she gets elected president. As a matter of fact, she has already compromised Americas well being as a soverighn nation with her association with the ACLU. These people would like nothing more than to see America overrun with illegal aliens and eventualy being forced into a one world order. True Americans will not let this happen. We still value God, country, and liberty! Too many have given their lives before us for us to forget that. The far left have no concept of history, or what it holds for the future. God help us, because we are about to repeat it. That is if Hillary is elected.

What about the Clintons' well-known loathing for all things military? Ask any GI who served during the two Clinton administrations about that! You might be shocked. I was one of them.
Kenneth Jones, Los Banos, California
Attention democrat liberals. I might have a more favorable view if someone could outline exactly what Hillary has accomplished in her lifetime. As a state governer - nope. As a NY senator - no sign of any legislation. Are minorities better off due to her efforts? - nope. Superior attorney - nope. Unselfish philanthropy - none. Successful business person - nope. It seems she is known only for being critical of all of the above. And for this non-accomplishment she is believed to be capable of controlling every aspect of our lives? I dont get it.
DrBubba, Flyover, USA
While Mr. Bernstein's book will undoubtedly shed more light on the life of Hillary, the book is certainly not required reading. Anybody who has followed Ms. Clinton for the past few years can see that she is an opportunist of the first order. Ms. Clinton will do anything and say anything required to become President, regardless of what truth is sacrificed along the way, and regardless of who is injured in the process. If America feels that Hillary is the most qualified to be our next leader, we will be doomed to even greater failures than the seemingly insurmountable failures of the Bush Administration. It is a very sorry time when Ms. Clinton is considered among the most qualified to lead America.

Your first commentator on this piece, Mr. Douglas Skinner of Setauket, NY, reflected my first reaction. This book is just a clever ploy to purge the rumors. The effect will be for people to conclude that her dissembling, especially about her husband's philandering, is only a kind of toughness.
But, on second thought, perhaps, what will be left in people's minds is a one-dimensional ambitiousness. John McCain's abrasiveness derives from his idealism.

In response to Sue, who believes Bernstein is a Republican, trying to get Republicans in office...
So you suggest that Carl Bernstein is actually a right-wing mole who has been deeply undercover for the GOP since Watergate. Ignorant and Absurd!
Every time Mrs. Clinton or her supporters suggest there is a "vast, right-wing conspiracy", I think of all the books written on Nixon and his infamous paranoia. Much has been said about the impact it had on his presidency. I also think about files in Hillary's possesion of questionable purpose, and I recall Nixon's creation of files to keep tabs on individuals he suspected of questionable purpose (ie John Lennon).
I must thank you... I read your comment and these parallels began to form. I am an independent considering the candidates of both parties, and you have helped me eliminate Mrs. Clinton from my consideration.
JCD, St. Louis,
Clinton is a politician. If some nosy reporter went through YOUR life and YOUR friends, how many "discrepancies" would pop up? Many. Same for any other politician. In response to J. Samuelson, Clinton has done many charitable things that are not on the radar. Do your research. To hwm from Lynden, Dont be Stupid! America is still sexist. The ceiling may be glass in corporate life but it is concrete in politics. Even were that the case NO ONE makes it as a politician "on her own all the way". Clinton is not perfect but she is one of the few, male or female, who has what it takes. We judge her based on her husband. How many male politicians get critisized for getting support from their wives?
Elizabeth, Seattle, WA, USA
Tom Tancredo has not only my vote, but my financial support. Like most politicians today, he has some stands that I don't agree with, but his absolute insistence on controlling our borders is a winner for me. Maybe Fred Thompson as President and Tom as the VP? I could vote for that. The rest of the current (r)epublican crowd are 'politicians' in the worst sense of the word, In My Opinion.
And the junior Senator from New York scares the hell out of me as a Senator. A return by her and that husband of hers...might actually lead to the second American Civil War.

Bernstein's book sounds like a lot of nit-picking.
Of *course* all politicians shade the truth and dance around the facts. But none of Bernstein's "revelations" appear to diminish Senator Clinton as a presidential candidate, any more than the revelations about Rudy Giuliani's marriages diminish his status as a potential world leader.
If we have learned anything from the Clinton and George W, Bush administrations we should have learned that:
1. You can behave in a scandalous fashion in the bedroom and still be an effective leader.
2. You can be virtuous and upright in your personal life and still be an incompetent leader.
Peter Ryan, Columbus, Ohio, USA
What is frightening is the prospect of my party nominating a promising inexperienced star to be our nominee in a time of instability. Picture this: three weeks before the election there is an international crisis (naive Dems: count on an October surprise designed to scare the public). The Republican nominee is either McCain or Rudy - and Barack has to win the confidence of the suburban soccer Moms that swing our presidential elections. NO. WAY. If he fumbles when 'debating' his own colleagues, imagine what Rudy or McCain would do with him on national security issues?
Also, my naive fellow Democrats, tell me which 'Red' state Barack can win that both Kerry and Gore could not. Don't kid yourself into thinking that just because we don't care about race that the suburban and rural voters we need will not consider it. It will not happen, period.
There is a reason presidents have historically been mature in age; it takes time to cultivate the character of a true leader.
Jim Wagner, Phoenix, AZ
It's funny how the article goes on to point out that the author Bernstein is a "liberal" who may be unhappy with Hillary's vote on the Iraq war...now if Bernstein had written a critical book on a Republican, would they point out that he is a "liberal?"
Also, the article takes a few cheap shots at Bernstein, noting that he had an affair, as if that is at all relevant to the book. The article also states that Bernstein had "writer's block" because he took some years off of writing books, again another irrelevant detail, and an attempt to discredit Bernstein.
It's funny how Hillary has even the media so scared that they have to defend her in some part by taking cheap shots at an author they would otherwise praise.
Hillary would be awful for the country and the world. There can be no unity in American society as long as there is a Bush or Clinton in the White House, esp. if that Clinton is Hillary. She is easily the most divisive figure in American politics.
Point of View, New York,
This comment board is unfortunately polluted with those who have done nothing but listen to soundbites from their respective news stations, corrupt politicians, religious leaders and misguided friends. I cannot even begin to address the plethora of statements made by those claiming to be well informed on this board. Many of these comments are too diluted by the ideological divide that plagues our country today to be worth a nickel.
If only we could return to an era of pragmatism when someone wouldn't have 40 percent of the population automatically despise them when they announced they were a conservative or a liberal. If only we could move to an era when differing viewpoints were respected and analyzed without hate.
Step outside of your own ideological constraints and try to understand the other sides. There are good reasons for and against Hillary. if you are unable to see both sides, ask yourself who holds power over you. Are you blinded by the lens of ideology?
Tom Klink, Stillwater, MN
The Brits have already published the critique of Obama's autobiography in which he was found to be economical with the truth as regards his father's background, his own priviledged upbringing and his early religious education/affliation.
If the biggest beef Bernstein can come up with is that, within the dynamic of their marriage, Senator Clinton is that she tolerated her husband's daillances then it is to be wished his writer's block had remained. Why should she air her grievances or divorce simply to satisfy the expectations of the William Safire's of this world? As for the dead horse of earnings on playing the commodities market there was never any impropriety.
There are no politicans whose every action bears scrutiny. Politicans should be measured as to their experience (Obama does not have sufficient yet), their pragmatism, their intelligence, their ability to appreciate perspectives other than their own, and their willingness to listen and learn.

If Hilary is elected, Bill will be the president, AGAIN---is that what we want?
I think she is ultimately unelectable. Number one she is a woman, (hey, just sayin') number 2, many women don't like or trust her and finally no Republican will vote for her. She is going to be soooo influenced by Bill and I just don't like the idea that he is getting in the back door.
I wish someone NEW to the game would come along for BOTH parties. New blood, indeed.
It's almost like Hilary waited too long and now it's just BORING. It certainly bores me.

Do you really think this will be a hard hitting expose. The hype to promote the book. The book will probably contain some limited criticism, nothing new and easily dismissed. The end result will be "well if that is the worst they can say about her"
Let him do a book on any Republican and you can be sure it will really be a hard hitting expose and hatchet job....
Donald Skinner, Setauket, USA / NY
Why worry about her lies? Her truths are scary enough. She is a Socialist through and through. Nothing is as inefficient as big government, are we to think Hillary has the answer? Her vision is more government and more taxes, and what will we get? Nothing but a headache!

The real reason!, why?,Hilary Clinton will never say she's sorry for her war vote!, is that the start of military operation in IRAQ caused al-qaida #2??, to call-off USAMA bin LADEN' 2003 planned New York subway cyanide terrorist attack. No thanks! to her fellow democratic party near-do wells.
james rosella, new castle, pa, usA
Lets hope Hillary is not nominated. The GOP is in such sad shape as a result of Bush's failed Iraq campaign, that the Democratic nominee is guaranteed to win the 2008 election, no matter who the GOP nominates.
Andrew P, Alexandria VA,
I would have thought that the Americans had learned by now that electing relatives of former Presidents with massive campain budgets at their disposal can be a mitake. I do not know enough about Hillary Clinton to judge whether or not she would be good for the USA or for the world. But I know enough about George W. Bush to know that even if I were a US citizen, I would NEVER vote for anyone who had so much as been in the same room as an ex-president, let alone been his son or wife!
Michael Macauley, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain
I get the impression from Mrs. Clinton that she expects to become President and that she really is just going through some of the motions in the campaign. That is only one reason why I don't like her and would never vote for her. She is not the heir apparent. Sorry Hillary.
Kay, Hudson, ohio
It scares me people are ready to vote for Obama when he is so very inexperienced. If America doesn't have better candidates than these, it only shows they are bought and sold and that we the voters don't get a choice, not really. My friend said to me when Clinton was first on the scene, who is he-the worst governor of the worst state in the nation! it was true, and how the hell was he chosen to run the country? Then, we have Bush, who can't put two sentences together. Our two-arty system is polluted, and I for one, will only vote for Tom Tancredo, who isn't part of the machine, and who would at least protect our borders from the flood of illegals.

Brian Cobb, Tampa,
Does the book also delve into all the "friends" of the Clinton's dead or missing? The Ark State troopers stories or the illegal activities never prosecuted? Now that might be a barn burned... I still say Hillary is the most dangerous women TO America!
FWT, Destin, Fl
For this to be authentic, it will need to deal with Hillary's period of "sexual exploration" while in Arkansas and during the early Washington period. That is an unavoidable element of her life that, so far, all have chosen to ignore. That is not to say it would destroy her chances; Ellen DeGeneres has earned the respect and admiration of many because of her honesty. Hillary just needs to be honest as well, as do those who profess to reveal her past.

I don't understand people who say a person's character doesn't matter. They can do what they want in their personal life, all we care about is what happens during business hours. You can't separate the two. If someone is a liar in their personal life with the people they supposedly love and care for, then why would they think twice about lying to the American public, a bunch of faceless people they will never even see? You better believe character counts. I prefer a president who doesn't run their political life according to the latest polls and change their stories according to what is popular at the moment. Does anyone really know who Hillary Clinton is? Does Hillary even know?
Tammy, Mitchell, SD,
I feel that Clinton simply isn't radical enough to change U.S politics anyway, she will face as much biassed ridicule as Senator Kerry did from NewsCorp in the last U.S election.
Even Obama seems to have dubbed down his stance, leaving the window open for another shoddy Republican administration.

Most people who know would rather slap Mike Tyson in a bar than mess with the Clintons. They will do anything, ANYTHING, to win and their friends in the press will not say a word.
Hillary may win because so many women, (you know the Company / People magazine crowd) who have never voted will come out for Hillary. Also, the press adores her. The kicker is she is not a patch on Bill. Like him or not Bill Clinton was a master politician but Hillary is just a garden variety eastern establishment liberal with learned skills but no talent. She'll be a disaster as President.
Greg Dail, Smithfield, NC/USA
There are too many brooms in Hillary's closet. From her days during college, Arkansas misdeeds, Foster, White House fiascos, socialist health care plans, close relationships with Reno and other Clinton Presidential appointees (chosen by Hillary), and to her disingenuous Senatorial tenure and nominal projects. She makes unknown empty suit democratic opponents look tolerable.

Hillary says very little without lickin her finger and sticking it in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. I don't understand why Republicans won't make a commercial showing the many examples of her hypocrisy. The left wing of her party is the biggest threat facing America after terrorism.

Hillary is not the only pol who "would be another nobody" if not for serious family connections.
Example #1: George W. Bush, who was a failed oil speculator in west Texas...and who would have remained a nobody if his name wasn't Bush and he didn't have Daddy's connections and the ability to "scrub" his dubious Texas Air National Guard history. Anyone who thinks Hillary is the only pol to "adjust" her bio to run for high office is simply naive.

Er... Not quite sure what the point of this story is. I'm sorry, what did she fail to say about her career? You never seem to get to that part. Yes, I do agree on one hand on Diane Blair's papers being used because I am sure Diane Blair would not give any
writer this information (and I am not even a Clinton fan). I don't know her very well, except what I do read from various articles and blogs. But beside that, my gut instint tells me
she cannot be trusted, It just seems to me if she wins it will be for her - not for the people, not for America, not for women's rights - for her, because (again my gut feeling, etc.) it's all about the Clinton's, she has to prove something.

So, Hillary denied all knowledge of the affair with Jennifer, whilst she knew all along! Scandal! But isn't that what most women would do when they know of their husband's infidelities? Has a crime been committed? Now, what would be an interesting biography is the one about Kenneth Starr. Any takers?

The thought of Hillary Clinton becoming President
makes my blood run Cold and the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Enough said.

Do we really need Carl Bernstein to tell us that the Clintons are liars? Dick Morris spent 20 years with the Clintons. Has anyone read his book? Next to radical Islam Hillary being president is one of my worst fears. I don't need to read a book to form an opinion of the Clintons. You want frightening? Clinton/Obama in 08.
Bradley Collins, Hillsboro, Illinois
always the same prudish attacks on the clintons ,I dont care what happens after closing time . what they do during working hours is good for enough for me , compared to the axis of evil speel of the present dodo .

We do not need an ambassador to the world. We need a future president continue to fight the war on terror abroad and support out troops. We saw that the 90s were not about a strong national defense. I have yet to hear a plan to fight radical Islam and we have been at this war on terror for many years. Denial and retreat is not a plan.

Riding Clinton's coat tails? What did the kennedys do? Or George W? He'd be nothing more than a 3rd rate salesman for some no-name company if it wasnt for his father. Hillary Clinton in her own right is brilliant. You dont have to like what she says, just as most liberals dont like what conservatives say, but at least be honest and stop being so pathetically transparent.

HERE IS A CLUE!!! A $56 M investigation, now we get the truth about the Clinton's, from a broken down has-been writer from over over 30 yrs ago. I can't wait until bush writes his book all 10 pages, think he will have a ghostwriter?? Wonder if he is going to tell about the women or wait for some one to do it for him. Considering he has sealed the presidential papers, it will be decades before this country really learns about the true extent of the crimes committed by this administration.
Besides only rush is going to try to get mileage out of this old tired re-hashed rag.

After reaing most of the posts here, I have only one thing to say: Fred Dalton Thompson . Thank you for your consideration and good night to all.

"let the person without sin throw the first stone"---Let's just leave the dirt out and let the process work. Must we always build people up only to throw them down?
Give Hillary her due, she's very intelligent, and in my view just as capable as those running on both sides of the Aisle--more so than many who have held the Office in the past.

Agree fully with the last poster. Time for a new face, new vision..un Washington type. Frankly, I am looking for solid leadership..NOT of the world, but of my country. Bye Bye Hillary..As a constituent of hers (resident of NYS) allow me to inform you she has done nothing, I repeat nothing for us here except use us for her own agenda; enough.
And I would rather not have Bill Clinton as Ambassador to the World..the interns would have no where to hide then. I can hear the scandals before they even begin.

Rachel, NY,
I applaud the attempt at revealing background intelligence. IF, that's what this book will show. We've all been through the scenario of "bad intel" and the blame game with our current administration. The Dems say there was not enough intel. For the war, that is. There's not enough intel to determine who is elligble to run this country. But maybe one day. No one "deserves" the White House. The White House deserves respect, ethics, and an administration worthy to operate from within its halls for the greater good of the American people. With the Dems in office, everyone will just be taxed into submission. My opinion.

There is something very unsettling about Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton in our line up of Presidents above the black board in schools. Let's have some new blood in our political system. Obama or Fred Thompson could be a good start!
Jean Lembcke, West Palm Beach, Florida
I think it would be fun to have the Clinton's back in the White House. Can't wait to see what antics Billy gets up to if he becomes the first man.

Hillary's gender doesn't matter at all. What matters is her policies.
She has advocated raising taxes and growing the bureacracy, this runs counter to the traditional American's view of the purpose of government.

Hillary reminds me of the Ice Queen(aka the white witch) in the Chronicles of Narnia... so i wouldnt vote for her if i were an American.

Our country is simply the greatest country to live in on planet earth. We need a leader that can live up to the greatness that this country has to offer. Sadly Hillary Clinton is not and will never be that person.
You are a fool to think she cares about anything more than herself. Check yourself and think of the following: when has Hillary ever done any of the following with her sleeves rolled up and doing it for more than a week or 40 hours plus: Worked in a battered woman's shelter, unloaded a truck? made any type of manufactured goods? worked as an ambulance attendant, served school lunch? Help paint a handicap persons home? Read magazine stories to people in a retirement homes? Adopted a child from poverty? Sent money (from her purse) and aid to a dead solider's family and children?
Now don't tell me she an educated lawyer and doesn't need to do such things, That would be nonsense. I went to Yale and I have done these things. Hillary is just a modern-day carpet bagger.
J. Samuelson, Washington DC, USA
Keep in mind that Hillary would be another nobody if she hadn't stuck with Bill back in their first run at President. She didn't arrive at her exalted position today stickily on her own. Could she have accomplished it on her own all of the way?

"Watergate reporter demolishes Hillarys career story"
How do you know, the book in not available yet?
Frank H, London,
Hillary Clinton is a real person, bright, brilliant and will make a great president. Give me a break, they have been mud raking the Clinton's for years and only have been able to prove that are human beings who have made mistakes. Compare that to the great things they have done for America and in many cases, for the world. Do America and the world a favor and vote for a strong and talented leader to bring us back in real world.
Gene Ehle, McFarland, Wisconsin
it's useless to call a book useless unless you've read it.

The only thing dividing our country is the selfishness of liberals who attempt to play politics with the war Instead of taking a stance and staying comitted to their beliefs. It does not matter who Democrats run, the leading candidates all have significant character flaws that the American people will see through.
Erik, Cumming , GA
Oh whatever... the world needs more female presidents to show this incompetent, male-driven world how things should be done. Go Hillary!
Sheeva, London,
Men would never want a woman like Hillary for their wife BUT would love for their daughters to be like her.
What does that tell you?
Same old story - she is a woman and most people still cannot accept that.
Say what you want about her (and how is she any different than most men) Hillary is educated, smart, hard worker and I would follow her lead any day.
Oh, let's see .........what men would be my heroes????
I hope she wins!!!!

LOL. I've never been so happy about anything he's written.

Hillary Clinton is so power hungry she has done and will do anything, to stay in power. If Vince Foster were still alive, what a story he could tell us. Conveniently for Hillary and Bill he is not here to tell it.

Jane Boyd says: "Can people finally just leave the Clintons alone".
The problem is that the Clintons would not leave us alone.
Average Joe, Little Rock, Arkansas
AMERICA HAS THE MOST POWERFUL 3RD PARTY IN THE WORLD. They are those who vote for the candidate, and not for their party. They have decided every single election since the beginning of our republic.
Do not publicly "yearn" for a formal 3rd party. That notion would reduce us to a coalition form of government and would do nothing more than to bring European chaos to the United States.
Our two-party system is the most efficient and most fair. A formal 3rd party would mean that conservatives would NEVER again be in power.
Take some classes in political science, and study how systems work, rather than ignorantly "wishing" for that which will harm us.
ManleyG, Portland, OR
Is America ready for a woman President? Most definitely, and Hillary Clinton is not it.
Merry Marilyn, Silverton, OR
Ron Brown, VIncent Foster, Ruby Ridge, Waco, Whitewater, Travelgate, Oklahoma City, missing FBI Files, WTC bomb, Flight 800, tainted blood from Arkansas prisons killing Canadians . . . do we really want to repeat all that? As bad as Bush is, the Clintons make him appear relatively straightforward. And remember that the worldwide Islamic terror campaign against US interests began under the Clintons' watchful gaze. Oh, and I believe Al Gore was asleep somewhere on the premises, too. Fact is, a narrow clique of elite decision makers will decide who Americans get to vote for. There won't be much functional difference between their actions once in office, and the wishes of the majority of voters will be the very last thing on their minds.
