SHE IS said to have learnt from an enforced period of quiet reflection, but in typical style Paris Hilton will celebrate her imminent release from jail with a huge party in Las Vegas.
Hilton will be freed in the next two days from the Los Angeles jail where she is being held. Her mother Kathy is seeking sponsors for a “welcome home” party at Caesars Palace casino.
Hilton, one of the best-known celebrities on the American party circuit, believes that her time in jail may lead to a change of direction. In a radio interview last week, she said that she wanted to use her fame for good in the future.
She also said: “Even though it’s horrible and really hard, I think God makes everything happen for a reason and this is my time to figure out what my purpose is in life.”
The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to 45 days on driving offences before being briefly released early. After a public outcry, she was sent back to jail to complete her sentence.
The worthy causes that Hilton might now pursue are not yet clear. Asked whether her daughter would follow other Hollywood celebrities and visit American troops in Baghdad, Kathy Hilton, 48, who made her reputation by selling goods on the QVC television shopping channel, reportedly said: “God, no.”
Hilton has received more than 6,000 letters of support in jail, according to Elliot Mintz, her spokesman. “While many older people do not understand her appeal, Paris has a massive fan base among the young,” he said.
Hilton says she is looking forward to the simpler things in life. “I just can’t wait to see my family and have a nice meal and be in my own bed and appreciate all the things I took for granted,” she said.
