Take a trip to New York and see the city from the air
OSLO Al Gore received his Nobel Peace Prize yesterday, declaring that America would “stand accountable before history” if it failed to take action to combat climate change.
“It is time to make peace with the planet,” he said in a speech in Oslo. “We must mobilise our civilisation with the urgency and resolve that has previously been seen only when nations mobilised for war.”
Mr Gore added: “It should be absolutely clear that it is the two largest CO2 emitters [China and the US] — and, most of all, my own country — that will need to make the boldest moves. Both countries should stop using the other’s behaviour as an excuse for stalemate and instead develop an agenda for mutual survival.”
His remarks came as governments met in Bali, Indonesia, to work on a new international treaty on carbon emissions to replace Kyoto by 2012. Mr Gore will join the talks tomorrow.
The former vice-president to Bill Clinton received the Nobel prize for his work to raise awareness of climate change. He shared it with Rajendra Pachauri, head of the UN’s panel on climate change.

Even if America stopped all CO2 emissions, how long will it take to stop the increasing temperature? No one is saying how long it will take to turn global warming around. It is very bold to say we are the cause and we can fix it. It reminds me of the Tower of Babel and how man wanted to be like God. Find it in the first book of the Bible.

If these global warming prophets are taking their own speeches searious, why don't they take measures to prevent the proposed cosequences hitting people hard? Instead of planning flood barriers, sufficient water supply systems and providing economic development to the poor countries - the only thing that could help them to cope with catatastrophies of any kind - they are just talking about trading carbon emission certificates and cooling the atmosphere. It took the Dutch more than 30 years to get the flood barrier on the Schelde delta in place. A time we don't have according to the sinsiter warnings of Mr. Gore and his followers.
All these facts make me believe that not the so called global warming is really the issue, but earning awefull lot of money by trading emission certificates and shares of companies benefiting of the green industry hype. And consequently leads to the question if the global warming is really influenced or triggered by men, and not made up by the IPCC?

Japan, Italy and Spain failed to meet Koyota targets and owe $33 billion. Japan plans to bill 40% to business, which will pass the cost on to the consumer in higher prices, and bill the citizen 60% in direct taxes.
H.L. Mencken (1880-1956) The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. Do you recall the AID's scare, DDT, Ice Age, Bird Flu, Mad Cow...Now add Global Warming.
Past attempts of the UN to tax our air space, international trade and the use of the sea have failed. God bless us if we cave on Global Warming.
Liberals favor science. Not natural sciene, but political science.

Graham, It's sad your jealous or America and her cars, come over and I'll be glad to buy you a car that doesn't run on fish and chips. Just cause your gas is more expensive than ours is no reason for jealousy, don't worry you'll get a date some year.

Blah, blah, blah... Take it from the guy who 'invented' the Internet.
Global warming would decrease if Al Gore would simply quit pontificating. Jeez, he likes to hear himself talk. And at $50,000+ per event, I certainly understand his motivation.

Sounds like a very serial point Al is making. Exelsior!

With the Americans loving cars that only do 8mpg I can't see much changing. Perhaps a hike to $9.00 per gallon might make them think again.
Graham, London, UK
Will he have to hand it back, when his ill founded beliefs are proved wrong?
W Smith, Oldham,
Al Gore was so environmentally conscious he and Tipper took the airport express train, but they sent their luggage via a Mercedes Van. Did he remember to buy carbon offsets for his luggage ?
