THE Hollywood star George Clooney is being credited with inspiring an actors’ boycott against film award ceremonies that threatens to reduce next weekend’s Golden Globe Awards to a shambles and is jeopardising the most important event in the Hollywood calendar, next month’s Oscars.
This weekend the Screen Actors Guild announced that the 70 actors shortlisted for awards at the Globes will not be attending the ceremony in sympathy with scriptwriters who have been on strike for two months.
Officially, television network NBC, which splits millions of advertising dollars with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, organiser of the Globes, says the show will go on. Both bodies said on Friday they were in “an extremely difficult position” and would try to woo the actors back.
Behind the scenes NBC is split between those who are in despair seeking to salvage the festival and those raging at the “disloyalty” of actors.
Special ire is reserved for Clooney, 46. “We know Clooney is a major force behind this decision. He has been earbashing others who may have been willing to cross picket lines,” said one NBC executive.
Sources close to Clooney have laughed at the image of “Red George” as a strike-organiser. “He does not earbash, he is far too easy-going for that,” said a business associate.

Such a load of ignorant, ill-informed, bitchy comments from across the pond and in particular the southern states. Amazing. Why are you bothering to get outraged at a UK paper and annoy us all in the first place? No life? Nothing on the telly? Oh thats right, of course there isn't. Hope this damn strike ends quickly so we don't have to put up with your hate filled comments anymore. Bah Humbug.
Vincent, Devon, UK
Chris in Seattle - Get a grip. Research the issues about which the screenwriters are striking and quit griping about actors who support them.
Rossman, Chicago, IL
It is grotesque hypocrisy that the stinky rich beneficiaries of free-market capitalism - actors like Clooney, Damon, Sarandon, Penn et al - should spend their lives in an imaginary world of anti-Western Marxist ideology. Why don't they get it that true egalitarianism demands the crushing of all the hopes of those who deem themselves exceptional?
Clooney has made movies glorifying Islamic terrorism and justifying it due to the evil actions of the West. He also yearns for the good ol' days of journalism when 2 or 3 powerful (Left leaning) news outlets controlled all the information available to the public.
Now that there is true competition in the delivery of news with the addition of FOX News and the availability of conservative (and all other manner of) publications on the Internet, Clooney thinks its an awful thing. Of course, everyone he disagrees with has sold out to the evil capitalist corporations.
Just so much cold-war Soviet propaganda.
Don't rent their movies - everyone!

What happened to all those silly, snobby people who claimed they were going to "read more books" during the Writers strike?
Probably watching TV as always!
Rose, Burbank, CA
I like films. and I like actors and writers too. I don't even mind them having political views - you may even get the odd president or governor of california. surely better than letting the lawyers run things?
however, the oscars are utter cack. instead of keeping hollywood out of politics, we should be keeping the politics out of hollywood. the odd ranting acceptance speech or comedy interlude is the only thing that makes the ceremony worth watching - the envelope opening and smugness, all wrapped up as a schmaltzy advert, we can do without. although panning in on the non-winning nominees faces does at least give them an opportunity to show how well they can act.
if you care about your art, you don't care about the validation of the oscars. on the other hand, if you don't care about the world around you, including politics, what is the point of your art.
I don't necessarily agree with clooney's views, but most of your correspondents should shut up, not him.

At least South Park get material out of it :)

Most people in the U.S. could care less about hollywood and the strike because Hollywood has been producing trash and politically driven entertainment for many years. Thus, let them strike or pay them, it doesn't matter because Hollywood is a dying industry just like the newspapers. They just do not get it that they are so far left of mainstream society and will continue to lose money for their radical agenda.
Wayne Young, New York, NY
How much money a very small minority of actors makes has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the Networks & producers refuse to pay the writers for the work they do.
Would YOU like to work for nothing? No?? Well neither do the writers! Find another employer you say? The writers can't and still work in the U.S. The writers are asking for fractions of ONE CENT that is earned from the product that THEY created. That's it.
You want to talk about over-paid arrogance, look to the Networks & their presidents: The President of NBC just bought a $12+ MILLION apt. in NY! The President of ABC has a base salary of $3.5 million. Yet fairly paying the writers would only cost the Networks less than 1% on annual earnings per share.
Mr. Clooney is acknowledging the importance of the writers while simultaneously standing up for the oppressed.
SOMEONE needs to - Way to go Mr. Clooney!!
Marie, Washington, DC
Who cares is he isn't there?
Mia, phoenix,
Would it be that it has become expensive to live in socialist California and New York City? The just need to sell their homes. We have been told for years that Americans were wealthier than ever because their homes were overpriced (especially in California and New York). So now that they are wealthy, what are they complaining about?
Bastiat, Miami, Florida

The SAG awards and the Oscars are a way that these Hollywood stars pat themselves on their backs and say, look at what a wonderful job I did pretending. Get a real job. Every day, real people don't make multi million dollars paychecks, get several awards (SAG, Oscars), walk down red carpets in borrowed outfits with diamonds earrings, necklaces, and smile for the camera's. They don't pretend to love people they don't know. Get $100,000 baskets filled with stuff just for go to the awards show. I have no idea who would really want to watch these boring shows. But I can not image why George Clooney wouldn't want to go, it's all about him and the rest of these big ego, self absorbed Hollywood starlets. It's all phony, just like them.
Phyllis Rodrigues, Apex, NC, USA
Actors, Democrats and Communists, all one in the same. Non productive, anti American, anti military, pro abortion, pro high taxes and big government controlling your life people. Godd riddance to them all.

Who cares what George Clooney does?????
davisr, Schenectady NY, USA,
Listen carefully George, listen real close...it will "start very low and then start to grow". The masses have spoken, the masses will share....the words to you, Georgie are who the heck cares?!!!!
magnoliawoods, Tallahassee, USA
Who cares? These Hollywood idiots get paid millions upon millions to pretend to be someone they are not. WOW. Now that is so important - moreso than teachers, firefighters and the barista's at Starbucks, right? Give me a break!
Clooney and his liberal cohorts can put away their overpriced tuxedo's, designer dresses and $450 hair cuts for one night. I won't lose sleep over it.
Kathleen, Sacramento, CA, USA
"Gorgeous" George is setting his sights on political office. and this is part of establishing his credentials. However, why do these top movie stars demand fees of tens of millions of dollars and large percentages of box office grosses? This greed causes reduced fees paid to others in the cast and penny pinching payments to other crew members. Why are they allowing their Screen Actors' Guild (union) to have their (SAG) awards while stopping other awards? Talk about hypocrits!
Jack Kingston, Wet Hollywood, USA
Looney Tuna...I cannot write my own words...so I have to lean on others...Gee, what a surprise...Go George...BURP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some very strange people on this forum today!
Well done to all the actors for showing solidarity with the scriptwrters and particularly to George Clooney. Far from making them looked 'rich spoiled children' or trying to 'build their egos' this shows them in a fantastic light. They are helping their poorer cousins get a better deal. They don't need to be involved but they have taken the time and effort to do so.
Whitey, UK,
Mr. Clooney's support for the writers is expected given the integrity and principals that drive this "gem of a man". The movie "Michael Clayton", alludes to the situation of greed that plagues our world, and it painfully portrays the numbness to humanity that so many of our dear leaders, and educated men and women of wealth are currently experiencing. Currently, there are more revenue streams for filmed media than ever before in the history of man kind. Why not share? It all starts with the story! The writers are the individuals responsible for the backbone of any scripted media: our artistically prone writers are the backbone, and they should be treated with dignity and respect; and by that I am not referring to using the words "please", and "thank you", but instead I am asking our brilliant power brokers to make the right decision. Gentlemen, WIN-WIN always exits, look in your hearts and you will find it.
Rashad Riman, DDS/Producer, Los Angeles, California
Interesting. But who cares? Celebrities giving themselves awards and gifts. Sympathizing with the people who are the real talent, the writers.
If a screenplay was written and nobody read it did it still make a noise?

Oh No! This is major! We must get the UN involved here! Perhaps Hugo Chavez can broker an arrangement amenable to all.
Go Chavez!

Damn, Clooney has finally pursued something worthwhile! Must be taking a break from finding fault with his own country.
Go for it Georgie! I say if you can keep the Hollywood rube awards off the TV, America is so much the better. Anyway you can eliminate all of Hollywood and revoke your U.S. citizenship afterwards?
Tex Taylor, Dallas,
Great, we won't have to watch these no nothings opining on things they know nothing about!
Jenny Rowbotham, Oxford, England
Does the over rated George Clooney know something more than the rest of the mob?Maybe he's learnt that there will be no award this time for him?
Hence the boycott ploy!
prudence eely bond mcguire, LONDON, ENGA\ND UK.
I miss a few TV shows, but I never watch those stupid awards shows anyhow. Boycott 'em all, George! Maybe they'll stop showing them on television!!!
Jarrod, Dallas, Texas
Those who deride the writers strike as insignificant compared to the troubles of the middle east are absolutely right, one is about art and one is about lives. But ultimately what are we differentiating ourselves from the rest of the planet's (non-human) occupants for? It is because of this art, this invention, this creativity.
Do you even know why the writers are striking? It is because of a long-held promise that stands to be broken (80% backpay in royalties), and a payment system that has not altered with time and the distribution of their art (0% royalty on internet!). Just the same as any other industry striking against unfair pay, they have a right to do so and theirs is a pretty legitimate one. Take a look here for more information "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ55Ir2jCxk"
Steve Mace, Reading, UK
Most industries hold an annual award ceremony of some sort to recognise any achievements within their sector and yes, it is primarily to stroke egos and to give each other a good pat on the back. So why should Hollywood be any different? The publicity it gets is only because the film industry is famous and its employees are in the public eye - this is more a product of the pathetic obsession with celebrity, and the media's fault in pandering to it.
Don't get me wrong - I agree that Holloywood's stars are spoiled, and there a million better ways to spend money than on goodie bags for people who could afford to purchase their contents one hundred times over. But to those of you who don't care that screenwriters are underpaid - you will care when you can't watch the next episode of Desperate Housewives, or whatvever. Would you be kicking up a fuss of this sort if it was a firefighter's strike? Or a postal strike? Sounds to me like envious whining.
Good for George Clooney.
Clementine, London,
The Oscars?
Does anyone in the real world actually give a damn?
Pete, Cov,
There is hope!! Maybe George and all of Hollywood will boycott and never come back again. Good riddance!
Traci, tampa, fl
What really scares Hollywood is that few Americans *care* if they cancel the Golden Globe and Oscars, just as we did not care much that late night TV was off during the strike. They are starting to see how easily replaced they are in this Internet age. Maybe the age of Self Important Hollywood will finally start to end.
I'm not a big fan of Clooney, but I applaud him for supporting the writers who deserve a far better contract.
Tom, Pittsburgh, PA USA
Why are Americans so religion-fixated? It's impossible for them to talk about the price of a Big Mac without bringing God into it as the arbiter of Big Mac morals and prices. Ronald; keep religion in your heart, but judge the world as a place of equals where everyone should be judged fairly, especially people one has never met.
George Clooney has a right to use his power to exercise influence. Politicians do the same: neither they nor the church should have a monopoly over the right to influence: members of the public can voice freely also and at the end of the day, that's what George Clooney is.
Not everyone in Hollywood is an amoral pervert. There's as much strange activity amongst religious leaders as amongst Hollywood stars, trust me, if public notoriety of some of these people is anything to go by...
Subha Pakhana, Surrey, UK
who cares about george clowny and the scumbag unions. unions are parasites!
tom richards, fairfax, uva
Way too many people idolize Hollywood. I bet that most Americans couldnât name their state senators, but they could tell you what rehab clinic Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, or Britney Spears used. I hope the strike continues. Has anything worth a crap come out of that town in years? Mr Clooney, tear down that ego!! (goes for you too Sean Penn...Danny Glover...Tim Robbins)
P.S. Neither I nor my family and friends are in any way connected to THE MAN.
Chad, Hampton, VA
Good for the actors. The writers are not being dealt with. They are being ignored. Eventually, with support from the actors, they might get the opportunity to negotiate with the greedy boys. I've never watched an Oscar in 56 years, but I hope it causes some pain to the powers that be to have it blackballed by the top actors. I'll make it a point to watch George Clooney from now on; it takes courage to fight the system.
Frank Rier, Jay, USA/Maine
Before you bash George Clooney, go view "Michael Clayton", one of the year's BEST FILMS....GREAT Story & Performances.
Brent, Atlanta , GA
George Clooney promised to leave the country if Bush got re-elected, yet he's still here. This should be a non issue.
Curt, Cary, North Carolina
Who cares?
Lou, Paradise, MD
Who cares. They're paid by the viewing audience. Someone else will gladly step up and fill the gaps. And I don't really care if the actors or Clooney or any of them don't get anything to put on their "I love me" wall. Moving right along.
dooberbob, Greenville, SC
The contrast between US and British sensibility is always entertaining to see: Yanks view celebrities as pampered, sycophantic multi-millionaires while Brits see them as starving artists, shafted by evil, union busting studios.
Clooney is a force of personality inside Hollywood, and has little power of persuasion outside of it. Let's face it, the guy can't sell movie tickets as a leading man (Michael Clayton was his latest flop as a Lead). He owes his greatest success to-date ("Good Night and Good Luck") to the man he villified in the film (that great patriot Joe McCarthy)--a movie that received rave reviews from the Leftist press but few (normal) people paid money to see.
That Americans don't see George Clooney films speaks volumes about how highly we think of him.
He couldn't get his dad elected in his home district, in Kentucky, for goodness sake. It doesn't get any more pathetic than that.
Yankee Mike, NY/NY,
These people are lost without their writers...yet Clooney, Penn Robins and the other "beautiful people" want us to take them serioulsy when they speak on national issues. Can they have a point of view while their writers are on strike?
Sean, Bangor, Maine
I have real hard time sympathizing with these rich people - I think I will boycott Hollywood altogether. Nothing good has came out of there in years anyways. I'll entertain myself with my fellow Americans home movies via Youtube.
Bob, Painesville, OH
Who cares? NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association care! The millions of viewers of both the Golden Globes and the Oscars care. A-list actor boycott = millions of dollars lost. You better believe they care!
Charlie, Miami, Fl
How is the world ever going to go on with out george, the greatest actor of all time.
I hear he give all his money to the crew on the set he works on and only takes rolls of pennies in kind.
The man is amazing.
brent, l.a., ca
Just curious; do these writers and actors boycott shows and/or movies shot outside the US or areas that don't use union workers, in order to save a buck? Of course not. They will pay 20 million to an actor for a movie and shoot it where they can find the cheapest labor. Believe me, if Georgie were told his salary would be cut in half (still extraordinary) in order to spread the wealth around, he would say, NO WAY!
Mary Catherine, Elmhurst, US/IL
The notion that unions are always right in their disagreements with management is a silly one.
Here's the thing, boys and girls. We have no idea how much the striking writers receive in compensation. All we know is that they say they want more than they are getting -- and in the process of striking for more are throwing maybe ten times their number out of work.
I feel no compunction for not siding with the striking writers.
Vince Brewster, Hillsdale, Kansas, USA
I wish people would get informed. The STUDIOS are the bad guys here, folks. They want to control EVERYTHING! The writers are asking for a tiny, tiny precentage of the profits of their work. How is that unfair? Most writers do NOT make much money. The studios make the money, why should they not share with the people actually MAKING the product? I am thrilled the actors are standing up for the rights of the writers. The studios would run over everyone if they could. As most of the print media is owned by the studios, people need to search the internet to get the real unbiased story. The studios think they can tell the easy lies and people will beleive them. Prove them wrong and get educated!
As for the people here complaining about high profile people supporting the strike. These people aren't doing it for themselves, many have probably lost more $ than they can hope to regain. This is for the next generation and the people who DON'T make the big bucks.
PLEASE, get informed!
Robyn Huffman, Red Oak, North Carolina
Who in their right mind really cares about this show? It is all about the actors, and if they don't want to attend just forget about giving them any prize.
Larry, Claremore, Oklahoma
Without unions, we wouldn't have weekends, vacations, workplace safety rules, or one of the most fundamentally important expressions of democracy in our society. And without the threat of a strike, unions wouldn't have any power to stand up for working people. Good for George for standing up for what's right!
Joe Hillstrom, New York, NY
Linda from Princeton, NJ
Good Lord is right. Another know-it-all elitist who can't tolerate someone else's opinion. Ah, the 'Coasts'; amazing how stereotypes can be so true.
Mary Catherine, Elmhurst, US/IL
I can't believe how ignorant so many of the people commenting here seem to be.
The writers' strike is not about some already rich writers demanding even more money. It's about people being payed a fair amount for their work. (And most of them aren't rich.)
It doesn't matter how unimportant you think their work is.
Just because their job isn't saving lives doesn't mean they shouldn't be compensated fairly for the work they do.
And it's not like the big companies can't afford that.
Stars boycotting big awards shows is putting pressure on those companies to give the writers what they deserve or to at least come back to the table and start serious negotiations.
George Clooney is a very charming and gorgeous guy, but what makes me really respect him is that he seems to have the right opinion (as far as it concerns me) about every important issue and he stands up for his beliefs.
(e.g. the Darfur crisis, if the strike is too "trivial" for you.)
Karin, Vienna, Austria
People who strike don't deserve to have jobs. Striking as a way to bully others into giving you something they don't want to give is one of the least honourable human behaviours and there are always better ways.
EK, Various, Greece, Italy, U.S.
No gratuitous lectures from the Hollywood Airheads running down our country and our military? No endless self-congratulatory celebration of how important they are? Let's hope there is a way to prolong this strike indefinitely!
RAL, Blanchard, PA/USA
Good for George. People outside this business usually have no idea how much entertainment companies screw "employees", and how many millions they make in doing it.
As a lifer in the music business, I have confronted companies (in lawsuits) 3 times for failure to pay--as per terms of my contract--or for trying to steal my songs. I shudder to think of what they've illegally taken.
The big hitch with the writers is DVD's and digital downloads which account for more and more viewers and thus, revenue. Networks don't want to pay writers for that. I wish that you could all could read the contracts I've gotten from record companies over the years. Talk about one-sided. Some 100 pages!!!
bill cuomo, Nashville, TN
The ideal Oscar show would have the "in memoriam" for who died during the year, the 5 songs (most of which are barely worth listening to any longer), and the typical movie trailers of the nominated movies, then just rattle off the winners or post it on the internet. Whole thing shouldn't take over an hour. I can do without the speeches, pats on the back, etc!
G. Jensen, doylestown, PA
I remember reading that George only attends the Oscars when he is nominated. Obviously he is expecting something if he is preparing to boycott.
Nathan, Melbourne, VIC Australia
Good Lord. I'm disheartened to see so many ignorant Americans making comments here although I'm slightly lifted to know that most of them are in the south, thus proving that some stereotypes are deserved.
The writers aren't looking for a huge pay day, they are looking to get paid for their work. They aren't getting paid for anything online, even though the networks and producers are getting paid handsomely.
Sigh.
Linda, Princeton, NJ
"They promote the exchange of ideas and create the art that makes our society exceptional rather than ordinary"
This may very well be the funniest statement I have read all week! Obviously, you haven't been to the movies or watched television in a good long while.
Reg, Prescott, Arizona
If clooney would only boycott breathing. We would all be better off.
Kent, Lafayette, USA
Who cares what George Clooney or that bunch of celebrity nitwits has to say about anything? As a group, they are shallow, vapid,
posturing, and just not very smart.
J Miller, Dallas, TX
The ignorance here is mind boggling. Movie stars don't need a union, working actors do. It's feast or famine with long streches between jobs for many.
i commend George Clooney for his efforts here.
Bill, Los Angeles,
What if Hollywood threw an awards ceremony and no one came? Good lord, I think I've discovered the answer to the riddle about one hand clapping. Without awards and the hype machine, these goofballs fall into obscurity in weeks.
Beijan, Santa Monica, California
I can't believe these actors need to form their own little union - the screen actor's guild. Don't they have enough money???
David Fried, Athens, OH
I could care less what Hollywood does, what "artiste" like Clooney" say, think or do. While Clooney is the more articulate of the clueless, to try and link the writers and actors as down trodden laborers is a cruel joke. A lot like the baseball players crying that the were indentured servants.
Paul C Bopko, Sun Lakes, USA/Arizona
I am appalled at all of the negative comments bashing the writer's strike here on this board. The writer's jobs are extremely important. They promote the exchange of ideas and create the art that makes our society exceptional rather than ordinary. They tell the stories of our human triumphs and failures, it's not the actors or the producers who do it. Hollywood and the film industry wouldn't be anything without the unique talents and originality of writers. They have a right to band together for fair compensation. I bet all you folks who think art and film is "lowly" would't have the ingenuity or intelligence to produce or appreciate one beautiful or original thought in prose if you tried.
Beth, St. Paul, MN,
Why don't we just boycott the entire film industry??
At least the non-independent part of it.
While we're at it, maybe even throw our TVs out and get a life. Even the news programs are banal these days.
rob, Paris, France
No narcissists patting themselves on the back? No actors rambling along reading a teleprompter because they are unble to generate a coherent sentence? Thats a shame.
Vivian Templeton, Pearl City, NH
Wow, dear novaks, what did that great looking guy ever do to you? Such anger. What do you say about the really bad guys?
pamela brown, moorestown, nj
Who cares what entertainers, including and especially all the morons who call themselves 'artists' think about anything? These people are employed in the lowest, least important industry on the planet. They do not put food on the table. They do not clothe or house anyone. They do not cure disease. They simply help us while away the idle hours after the REAL work is done. And for that, the parade around like every positive thing that has ever happened is a direct result of their 'work'. I am sick of this worldwide entertainment cult. I do not care who wins what entertainment industry award. The "Plumber of the Year" award is far more important. Especially when the toilet backs up.
beef, Wake Forest, NC/USA
Clooney is a no-class guy..proved it back when he made jokes about Charleton Heston's Alzheimer's disease announcement. The Heston family spokesman at the time answered the media's request for comment with the classic line, "perhaps class skips generations"..
Harry Chadwick, Weavervill, North Carolina
Good. Now maybe the Oscar show will be less than 30 minutes instead of 4 hours! "The winner is (insert actor's name here)." "He or she isn't here tonight so I'll accept on their behalf." "Next"
Rufus T Firefly, Las Vegas, NV
Way too funny."We wont show up,show off our finery, get our gift bags, and self-congratulate if we dont get what we want",whines the male diva..
Lets retaliate by never going to see another movie no matter whos in it,no more renting or buying DVDs,no renting movies through OnDemand digital tv,no watching movies or tv period ever again, even after the strikes over. Also, lets find info on if these writers are collecting unemployment comp, and if so, complain LOUDLY to states that are paying that benefit to them to not use taxpayer money to fund these spoiled brats' group hissy fit.Dont be swayed by the false argument that its the writers that make less money and get less work who need the extra concessions.Bull! If they were already getting less work and making less money its because the big name writers have continued to hog all big money projects for themselves, and will keep doing so poststrike.Theyre helping the internet replace tv/movies by striking.Studios, hire scabs.COUNTERSTRIKE!!!
duckthunder2001, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin/USA
George Clooney talks about one thing, but how he lives is a different story. He makes 100S of times more that the lower paid workers on a movie set, but he slams CEOs as making too much. As for the poor writers, I don't have any sympathy for them. No one forced them into that profession and no one is forcing them to stay. If you're not making enough as a writer, you can find another job that pays more. But collective bargaining is made it harder for the individual to shop their talents around in the business. Collective bargaining or individual bargaining? I prefer individual bargaining.
steve, Atlanta,
This may the BEST thing, the strike, that ever happened to our society and morals as people in the free world, the nation under God. I find it hilarious that the writers and actors do not realize they are writing their own obituaries by continuing to strike. Do they not realize how lucky they are to have jobs and be paid the ungodly high salaries they are being paid to do their jobs. People, the viewers, are finding out they don't really need tv or movies as a form of entertainment and are finding other forms of entertainment ultimately bringing morals and family back together without the big screen be it tv or movices.
How wonderful!

George has the right to do whatever he wants. Others have the right to boycott his movies.
Mike, Little Rock,
I think George Clooney is a pretty cool guy. eh boycotts Oscars and doesnt afraid of anything.
moot, Henderson,
Wow, that show may be watchable now. I don't have to listen to another smug Clooney speech taking credit for the Civil Rights movement or whatever other fantasy he blathers on about. Yippee for me.

Louis Novak
Our family will boycott anything the Louis Novak clan produces, puts out (God help your fellow citizens!) or says. An additional reason to love Mr Clooney's work (on and off the screen) is to know that people like the Novaks of Denver USA hate him. As to the other commentators ,who complain about the frivolity of the screenwriters' strike (basically because they think such a profession has it all easy and glam) , they should pose and reflect how difficult it is now for collective demands to be heard. The fact that other social dynamics suffer from misrecognition and suppression of their demands, as well as the fact that other parts of the world suffer even greater injustices and terrors, should not detract from the rightness of that particular group's claim.
Harriet Marlowe London, U.K.
P.S. Neither I nor my family and friends are in any way connected to screen writers or, alas, to Mr Clooney.
Harriet Marlowe, London, U.K.
many actors owe their fame to the talent of writers. Without them they might still be waitressing...
katryn, london, uk
George Clooney and all of the other Hollywood egomaniacs are idiots. They have a relatively small fan base as it compares to the nations population but they think their political ideas are what we all want. THEY ARE NOT! The rest of the country are hard working people who live in the REAL WORLD. We care about God and country. And because we care about God we have a moral compass which the Hollywood lifestyle hates. I am with Mr. Novak, anyone who speaks out with what they think is political superiority in Hollywood will never get another cent from me. Entertain me and they SHUT UP!
Ronald Fowler, Spartanburg, SC
What do you say WE boycott George Clooney and the Oscars. I've already found other methods of entertainment. There is no one in Hollwood that I can stand enough to watch a movie a movie these days.

Rock on George!

Their engorged egos must be extremely delicate if they feel the need to be constantly pampered to in this manner.

Don't care about Clooney or the writers, don't know anyone who does. There are plenty of other outlets for our time and money these days.

I have been boycotting the Oscars for years. Maybe it would be better without the actors present making their ignorant political statements.

I agree.
Who cares?
There are many, many more important issues that really amount to something that need attention more than this ego stroking assemblage of dolts.

Who cares? The oscars is only a publicity bash for actors to stroke themselves and to sell their perceived greatness over ordinary citizens.

Clooney is a looney...and everyone knows that. We will never, ever, spend a penny to see him or any films or projects he is involved in, EVER. Our family will never purchase products or services that promote or sponsor him or anything he is part of.

They are all a bunch of rich spoiled children. So what they don`t get to build their egos.
