Ashley Alexandra Dupré has been ordered to testify about her tryst with the disgraced former New York Governor as prosecutors examine whether he used any campaign funds for his meetings with prostitutes.
Ms Dupré, also known as Ashley Youmans, has received a subpoena to appear behind closed doors before an investigating grand jury hearing the case against the Emperors Club VIP prostitution ring, her lawyer said in court this week.
The struggling singer was caught by an FBI phone-tap talking to an accused madam about her $4,300 (£2,150) encounter with a man refered to as Client 9, now identified as Eliot Spitzer.
Ms Dupré reportedly had several dates with the man she knew as “George Fox” but realised only during their last meeting that he was the New York Governor. The New York Post said that the shocked prostitute told her bosses: “Oh, my God! Do you know who this guy is?” Mr Spitzer resigned on Wednesday without striking a deal with prosecutors on his legal fate.
Negotiations between prosecutors and Mr Spitzer’s legal team appear to be on hold for authorities to determine whether any taxpayer money or campaign funds was misused — which Mr Spitzer denies. The New York Times reported yesterday that prosecutors were focusing on whether campaign funds were used in Mr Spitzer’s dealings with the high-priced call-girl ring.
Prosecutors have asked Mr Spitzer’s lawyers about the travel arrangements for three trips, including his tryst with Ms Dupré at the Mayflower Hotel, Washington, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, the newspaper said. Mr Spitzer reportedly used the escort service on trips to Dallas and Florida. He attended a fundraising event in Dallas in October and held another fundraiser to West Palm Beach last month. He is more likely to face charges stemming from his payments to the prostitution ring than from the sex itself.
Because Ms Dupre travelled by train from New York to Washington to meet him, he could also be charged under a 1910 law called the Mann Act that makes it illegal to induce prostitutes to cross state lines.
The scandal threatens to richochet into the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, who was endorsed by Mr Spitzer. Now Mr Spitzer’s infidelity has reminded voters of Bill Clinton’s own sexual meanderings. The comedian David Letterman got an easy laugh with his top ten list of excuses for Mr Spitzer’s conduct. The No 1 excuse: “I thought Bill Clinton legalised this years ago.”

Prostitution is legal in the state of Nevada, and I'm assuming in other states in 1910 when the Mann Act was passed. I guess the act was to prevent people from paying for legal prostitutes in one state but receiving the services in their home state, which might be seen as a legal transaction as long as the payment occurred in the first state.
A similar situation arises in certain states that forbid the sale of alcohol on Sundays. People from Massachusetts (where alcohol on Sundays is prohibited) often travel to New Hampshire to purchase alcohol on Sundays, which they bring back over state lines to consume it at home. I don't think there's a law to prevent that, but you would word such a law in a similar manner to that of the Mann Act.

Governor Spitzer had to resign because he is a âMAJORâ hypocrite. Most of the laws Governor Spitzer broke, were the very same laws he, himself, put into the books. Governor Spitzer spent good portion of his career targeting prostitution rings and putting everyone involved in jail. Well, it turned out Governor Spitzer was using the exact same services that he was putting everyone in jail for using. Even though Governor Spitzer is form a wealthy family did he use public funds or his own personal funds? Governor Spitzer broke payments into smaller amounts to prevent anti-money laundry reports from being generated. The list goes on and on about the different laws he was breaking. Furthermore, prostitution rings are usually linked to organized crime, prostitution rings are usually not run by bored housewives looking to make extra money.

I forgot to mention in my last post, the reason the Mann Act (a law against inducing prostitutes to cross state lines) is on books is to prevent child prostitution, forced prostitution, sex slavery, and a whole host of other crimes. Since third world Mexico borders the US, these issues (at least in California) come up all the time and the problems they generate come up all the time.

There's a law against inducing prostitutes to cross state lines? Hilarious. That's like there being a law for pickpockets to use public transport, murderers carrying axes, and rapists taking viagra.

Regardless of the fact that sex was being paid for and both parties were in agreement, Mr. Spitzer is a public figure and must maintain a good image. Partly because of people in high places are corrupted like that, we continue to have high level of violence not only on TV, but also in real life. And that's pretty sad.

USA where you prosecute adults for paying for sex even though they are both in agreement but allow a level of violence on the TV and films to be shown legally that would shock most people in the rest of the world . Crazy country
stanley , haifa,
Awright, Mr. Spitzer. We need more women like Ashley. Maybe the world wouldn't be so anal.

When convicted (notice I did not write if because we should treat him the same way he treated others), I hope the judge sentences him to the maximum sentence on each charge with the sentences to be served consecuetively.
Finally, I hope he loses his license to practice law.
