MICHAEL JACKSON was twice caught intimately touching a 13-year-old boy on his bed at Neverland Valley ranch, a court was told yesterday.
On day six of his trial on child abuse, kidnapping and extortion charges, the pop star was also accused of showing his naked and aroused body to the boy and his brother, and encouraging the children to play drinking games and make obscene prank phone calls.
The testimony came from Star Arvizo, 14, the brother of Gavin, 15, a cancer survivor who says that Mr Jackson molested him in 2003, shortly after Martin Bashir’s documentary on life at Neverland was broadcast. During that period, the Arvizo family claims, it could not leave the ranch.
Star Arvizo said he stood on the stairs to Mr Jackson’s bedroom and saw him fondle his brother. He said the stairs were lit, but that the lights in the bedroom were switched off.
“His left hand was in my brother’s pants, and his right hand was in his pants,” said Star. “He was masturbating. He was rubbing himself.” Asked how he knew what Mr Jackson was doing, Star said: “Because he had his hand in his pants and he was stroking up and down.” Star then mimicked Mr Jackson’s hand movement.
Star said that he also caught Mr Jackson masturbating his brother a second time. Gavin was asleep both times, he said.
In another incident the Arvizo brothers were lying on Mr Jackson’s bed watching a film set in a boys’ orphanage. “Michael walked in naked,” said Star. “I was grossed out. He sat on the bed and told us it was natural.” Asked if he could remember any other details, Star said: “Oh, he had a hard-on.”
Star described several other bizarre and unsettling incidents, including one where an apparently drunk King of Pop licked the head of his accuser on a private jet after giving him red wine in a Diet Coke can.
The jury was told that Mr Jackson called the drink “Jesus Juice”. Star also said that he and Gavin had electronic access codes to Mr Jackson’s bedroom and often slept in the same bed as the singer.
According to Star, Mr Jackson had pet names for the two Arvizo boys: “Blow Hole” for Star, and “DooDoo” or “Apple Head” for Gavin. Another young friend of Mr Jackson’s was known as “Baby Rubber”. In return, the boys called Mr Jackson “Michael Daddy”.
Star said that Mr Jackson showed him pornographic websites on his second visit to Neverland in 2000. Later he described flying to Miami with Mr Jackson and his entourage at the time when the documentary was broadcast in America.
Star said that Mr Jackson gave him a can of soft drink on the private jet. “I thought it was Diet Coke and I didn’t want to be rude. But it smelled like rubbing alcohol. I asked him (Mr Jackson) what it was and he said it was wine.” Star said that Mr Jackson and Gavin seemed drunk, and that at one point he saw the singer lean over his brother. “He was licking his head,” said Star. The lick lasted about six seconds, he said.
What should have been a good day for the prosecution was undermined, however, by Star’s poor memory and need for prompting by Tom “Mad Dog” Sneddon, the Santa Barbara district attorney.
Asked by the prosecution if he knew what a “hard-on” was, Star blurted “that’s what Dr Katz called it”. Dr Stan Katz is a psychologist who, the defence claims, helped the Arvizos to prepare their case against the singer to get a cash settlement.
