Amanda Brack filed a one-page claim in a New York court accusing Miss Campbell, 36, of “verbal, physical and emotional attacks.” The lawsuit comes as the model, originally from Streatham, South London, tries to negotiate a plea bargain on criminal charges in New York stemming from an alleged attack on a housekeeper at her Park Avenue home.
Ms Brack, then 19, was hired by Miss Campbell in February 2005, after meeting her in a Paris nightclub and helping her to fix a “costume malfunction”. But the job quickly turned nasty, court papers say.
“On at least four occasions, Campbell assaulted and abused my client,” Gerald McCarthy, Ms Brack’s lawyer, said.
The assistant claims that Miss Campbell hit her in the face with a BlackBerry, slammed her against a wall and slapped her repeatedly across the face when a piece of luggage got left behind during a trip to Brazil.
The supermodel also allegedly threw a mobile phone at Ms Brack’s face during a later outburst at her New York flat.
During a photo shoot in Morocco, Miss Campbell became enraged over a forgotten item of clothing and tore up Ms Brack’s passport and threw it into the hotel swimming pool, the assistant claims. In the final incident, Miss Campbell allegedly ripped a sweater that Ms Brack was wearing “off her neck” and accused the assistant of stealing it.
Miss Campbell’s spokeswoman made no immediate comment.
Miss Campbell’s highly publicised troubles with her staff date back to 2000 when she pleaded guilty in a Canadian court to assaulting an assistant, Georgina Galanis, who said she grabbed her by the throat and hit her in the head with a telephone while making a film in Toronto.
In 2003, the model was sued by another former assistant, Vanessa Frisbee, who accused Miss Campbell of throwing a phone at her. The following year, a maid, Millicent Burton, was admitted to hospital after coming to blows with the model during an argument over packing a suitcase.
Miss Campbell’s current criminal assault case in New York stems from accusations that she hurled a mobile phone at a housekeeper, Ana Scolavino, whom she suspected of stealing a pair of jeans. The judge postponed this case pending a possible plea deal. Miss Campbell is due back in court on September 27.
Last month, another maid, Gaby Gibson, filed a lawsuit accusing Miss Campbell of hitting her over the head when she could not find a pair of Stella McCartney jeans.
