FOR anyone weary of hearing Senator John McCain’s worthy but conventional pronouncements, his 23-year-old daughter Meghan may have the perfect antidote: pop songs and make-up tips.
In a bid to connect with younger voters, McCain - at 71 by far the oldest candidate in the 2008 White House race - has turned his daughter loose on a blog that devotes more space to eyelash curlers than foreign policy.
Meghan’s exuberant account of life on the stump has generated an unexpected aura of youthful glamour. The blog offers playlists of her favourite songs and celebrity chatter. After running into Chelsea Clinton - daughter of one of McCain’s most formidable potential rivals - she wrote: “Finally meeting her and being so impressed with her in person was amazing (she also had really cute shoes on).”
Most of her blog entries are uncontroversial but she did raise eyebrows with an incautious remark about Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate. “I know [Dad] is not as sexy as Obama and interesting and young and fresh,” she told MTV. “I think Obama’s cute . . . but I definitely think [Dad] has an appeal.”

Pop songs and make-up tips?? She's 23, not 13 for goodness sake. Surely a 23-year old should have more serious concerns?
