If there was any doubt how much Barack Obama's supporters despise Hillary Clinton, then his Super Tuesday rally here in Chicago tonight made things loud and clear.
At 9.46pm, in a ballroom in the bowls of Chicago's Hyatt Regency hotel – shortly before Mr Obama appeared to declare "we do not need the final results to know our time has come!" – Mrs Clinton appeared with her husband Bill on a giant screen carrying CNN's election night coverage.
Mrs Clinton, dressed in a bright yellow suit before her supporters at a rally in New York, beamed and clapped on screen, but was drowned out here by boos, and chants of "No she can't, no she can't", a juxtaposition to Mr Obama's historically derivative call to arms of "yes we can".
Then, for the first time in an evening when the crowd had listened transfixed to each state-by-state result from this giant monitor, the sound was turned off.
Mrs Clinton could be seen delivering her speech – due to a technical glitch the phrase "Statue of Liberty in this great city" slipped out – which immediately triggered shouts of "No! No!"
At 10.41pm, Mr Obama appeared with his wife Michelle, to the strains of U2's 'Beautiful Day'. He delivered a powerful speech with new elements from his standard addresses, and more than ever with the cadence and vocabulary reminiscent of Martin Luther King.
Watching him intently, as he declared that "this time will be different", was Jesse Jackson, the African American civil rights leader and Democratic presidential candidate in 1984, and 1988 – a year when he won 11 nominating contests, the first African-American man to mount a nationwide presidential campaign.
Mr Obama was gracious about Mrs Clinton, saying as he did in a debate last week that he would remain her friend whatever the outcome of their nomination battle (in truth, the campaign has engendered deep and mutual antipathy). Then, without using her name, he drew the distinctions that have formed the basis of his campaign.
"We owe the American a real choice. We have to choose between looking backwards and looking forwards." Then he said: "Tonight, I want to speak directly to all those Americans who have not yet joined this movement" - the idea of a "movement" is one of the Clinton camp's greatest fears - "but are hungry for change. We need you."

Obama all fluff? Hardly! Yes, he's an eloquent, passionate speaker. But because that's so, why assume he has nothing more to offer?? Big mistake! Anyone who thinks so is uninformed about Senator Obama's credentials and experience. Check out BarackObama.com for his position on major issues facing our country and read his "Blueprint for Change for America." Many undecided voters have said reading Obama's "Blueprint" helped them make up their minds to support Obama. You can google the Blueprint or go to BarackObama.com. And check out obama.senate.gov for his record in the US Senate. OBAMA '08! YES WE CAN!!!

Obama speaks and I feel moved but then he's done and I have no idea what he plans to do. Seven years ago George Bush ran on a platform of Change. Change the direction of the country . Change the direction of Education. Change the direction of the Economy.
We got All children left behind, the Iraq War, CIA wiretaps, waterboarding. A platform based on change is great but what are we changing to? So far Obama makes broad bold statements that will not happen by his own words. All troops will be out of Iraq in 18 months, unless he needs to change that idea. Everyone will have Healthcare unless it turns into something he has to fight for and can't get by speaking about hope. I fail to see how Obama is any different than most politicians who give good speaches but have no results.
Hillary Clinton has a will as strong as steel and a love for her country and its people. She also has laid out plans that are attainable and that she will fight for. She is our best hope for our future.

Just what is the fuss about Obama all about? Hard to grasp that je-ne-sais-quoi that sways the American people as far as he is concerned. He's all tosh - flowery, elevated tosh. Placing someone as inexperienced as Obama in charge of a country that has never been so despised all over the world as it is now and that hasn't seen its economy perform so poorly as during the Bush years must be the worse political decision ever. But then again, American voters have a long history of pathetic voting patterns.
May you go all the way, Hillary! A country needs you.

all i can say is that we deserve a change all creeds and colors are shoul i say it should not be about any of that just make it better for all of us in the us we need change and i believe obama can bring change so good luck and keep the votes going we need change and it will take a person like obama to clean up the mess from eight years of pure dreadfulness

"I am just sick and tired of people saying Obama is all talk and no substance........He is against the war, wants super rich to get less tax break, wants cheap health care for every American person to have the same health care he has, less nuclear weapons in the world, more transparency which simply put, america will see where every dollar of that money goes via goggle, no lobbyist, no special interest, more support for student with their fees and I can go on and on. Obama has done some of this...."

Obama might "want" a lot of things, but "wanting" doesn't amount to a clear and comprehnesive programme of change. I "want" World peace, but my wanting ain't gonna make it happen.
Obama speaks well, but the guy simply has not spelled out exactly what he is going to change and HOW he is going to do it. Fact is, Obama has got a very easy ride from the presss, whereas Hillary has been trashed at every turn. In fact, I'm surprised Hillary is still in the race.
Paul, London,
The supporters of Obama must feel terribly threatened to behave in such an uncouth manner.
Or maybe they have been watching too many reruns of early 'Law and Order' programs?

Yo Linos Jacovides what are you talkin bout son maybe hilary clinton may be experienced but she started it by attacking him in New Hampshire and South Carolina using the race card against him basically saying that hes black so he shouldn't run for president and then soon after hilary clinton saw obamas momentum building up and the only way to make it go down is by attacking him how pathetic and by the way FJ Stratford he is a uniter more than hilary his speeches catch everybodys attention.I also wanted to say that he stood against the Iraq war from the beggining when hilary agreed to it and thought that it would be beneficial for our country????tell me this aswell how can she change her stance for being for the war to being against thats just not right you can only have one stance on issues switching views too often. My end point is that obama will make the difference in the presendential elections and lets hope he makes the change
Go OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steven, Brooklyn, New York
I am just sick and tired of people saying Obama is all talk and no substance. I have being following the race for months and when he started his campaign, he used hours to talk about his policies which are very comprehensive and it is not a suprise that he came up with the first blue print for America.
One other thing is that you have to be straight, yes Hillary talk about policies from the text book but the important thing about policies is that people must understand and that why Obama has the edge. Obama is by far the clearer candidate and his positions are not vague. He is against the war, wants super rich to get less tax break, wants cheap health care for every American person to have the same health care he has, less nuclear weapons in the world, more transparency which simply put, america will see where every dollar of that money goes via goggle, no lobbyist, no special interest, more support for student with their fees and I can go on and on. Obama has done some of this.

I, too, listened to both Obama and Clinton speak last night. Obama gave the most inspirational speech and Clinton gave a washed-out, depressing speech that she had to read. There was no inspiration at all to the Clinton speech. Clinton is the past and carries too much baggage. Obama is the CHANGE we need in America!
I am a 65-year old female who will NEVER vote for Hillary Clinton.
Obama is our HOPE for integrity! Obama 2008

I fully concur with the above remarks. You know Obama is a nice guy, but he is all talks. I honestly awaited to hear some substance during these times, and I am still waiting.
I think that if people take time, with no prejudice, try to read about Hillary's own works and contributions, and try to comprehend the depth of knowledge, accomplishments, and her convictions, they would know that the job is hers.
Hillary is my girl :).
Magie, Mont,
I heard both the Obama' and Clinton speaches last night and I finally made up my mind to support Clinton. He said they will be friends after the campaign and then proceeded to attack her which I thought was totally inappropriate in an elelction night speech. No other candidate republican or democrat did that. Also he promised to fix everything in the world including the proverbial kitchen sink. Apparently he does not realize that after Bush there is a huge budget deficit and the US economy is heading for the rocks. In contrast I trust Clinto to do a much better job for the economy and for Iraq
Linos Jacovides, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan
Just goes to show how divisive Obama's strategy is. A uniter? I think NOT!
Go Hillary!!!!!!
