Graphic: the house that Barack bought | The key players | Timeline: Barack and the billionaire
A British-Iraqi billionaire lent millions of dollars to Barack Obama's fundraiser just weeks before an imprudent land deal that has returned to haunt the presidential contender, an investigation by The Times discloses.
The money transfer raises the question of whether funds from Nadhmi Auchi, one of Britain’s wealthiest men, helped Mr Obama buy his mock Georgian mansion in Chicago.
A company related to Mr Auchi, who has a conviction for corruption in France, registered the loan to Mr Obama's bagman Antoin "Tony" Rezko on May 23 2005. Mr Auchi says the loan, through the Panamanian company Fintrade Services SA, was for $3.5 million.
Three weeks later, Mr Obama bought a house on the city's South Side while Mr Rezko's wife bought the garden plot next door from the same seller on the same day, June 15.
Mr Obama says he never used Mrs Rezko's still-empty lot, which could only be accessed through his property. But he admits he paid his gardener to mow the lawn.
Mrs Rezko, whose husband was widely known to be under investigation at the time, went on to sell a 10-foot strip of her property to Mr Obama seven months later so he could enjoy a bigger garden.
Mr Obama now admits his involvement in this land deal was a “boneheaded mistake”.
Mrs Rezko’s purchase and sale of the land to Mr Obama raises many unanswered questions.
It is unclear how Mrs Rezko could have afforded the downpayment of $125,000 and a $500,000 mortgage for the original $625,000 purchase of the garden plot at 5050 South Greenwood Ave.
In a sworn statement a year later, Mrs Rezko said she got by on a salary of $37,000 and had $35,000 assets. Mr Rezko told a court he had "no income, negative cash flow, no liquid assets, no unencumbered assets [and] is significantly in arrears on many of his obligations."
Mrs Rezko, whose husband goes on trial on unrelated corruption charges in Chicago on March 3, refused to answer questions about the case when she spoke by telephone to The Times.

I want to apologize to the great English people for the boorish behavior of Obama and his wife. I was literally reduced to tears by the return of the statue of Winston Churchill to your country--the lack of respect is appalling. The cheapness of their gifts is another example. I am so sorry.
Nancy Greco, Cranford, NJ, USA
A dirty crook? John McCain left his first wife and adopted kids after he returned from vietnam, for a prettier younger woman. Religious repuplicans should value more on the vows they make in Gods name rather than be so quick to judge Barack a bad loan. Religious when it's convenient is a sin.
Casey, Federal Way, u.s.a
Was it a "bone headed" mistake or just how Obama used to wheel and deal?
Eddie Bryan, Melrose, FL, U.S.
It's kind of nice to see both pro and con Obama comments here. There are many major metropolitan newspapers that are choosing to not post the comments against Obama. There are real issues with both Democratic candidates but so far it seems that the press has focused on trouncing Clinton and given Obama a free ride. No one should get a free ride when it comes to becoming the president of the U.S. Last year, Obama announced at an Iowa rally that he passed a nuclear power protection bill in Illinois. The bill did not pass & he actually backed away from the bill, with some suggestion that he did so because he received campaign contributions of over $200,000 from execs at the power company whose actions caused the bill in the first place . Instead, the press concentrates on whether Clinton embellished a sniper fire story from years ago. Somehow knowing why Obama walked away from a bill that he sponsored to protect people should be more important to the American public.
Dee, Orlando, FL
So the "Second Coming" is just another dirty crook. Typical.
Mojo Wilkins, Lexington, Kentucky, USA
Obama and his campaign have repeatedly denied any improper associations with Tony Rezko. Even if this is true, at issue is Obama's claim of superior judgment, which he says trumps experience. Are we to take this "boneheaded" real estate deal as an example of his judgment? Guilt by association is something everyone should have learned as a child.
Lana Robinson, Granbury, USA / Texas
There is nothing to answer as far as the Land deal with Rezko and Obama. But I would like to know the answer to the Clintons and Rezko relationship.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoin_Rezko
That's not bugs bunny standing in the picture between Hillary and Bill.
Ann, Shingletown,
There is nothing to say regarding the land deal between Obama and Rezko. He has been open to all of it. He isn't hiding anything. Like TAXES. But can someone explain to me the relationship between the Clintons and Rezko???
Go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoin_Rezko
That's not bugs bunny in that photo with the Clintons.
Ann, Shingletown,
What was the down payment for Senator Obama's house.?
How did he qualify for a loan on $250,000 income the year he spent $1,650,000 for a house. Did he have the cash?
theresa, washington, usa
What's missing here is that Rezko had to out bid other parties to buy that lot. The lot was going to sell whether he bought it or not. So he had nothing to do with Obama's ability to buy his house. Obama's money didn't come from or through Rezko. So where's the issue? There isn't one, but the right can't argue policy.
Don, Kalamazoo, Michigan
When are questions going to be answered in the Obama loving media with regards to Obama's relationships with his spiritual mentor, Rev. Wight, Tony Rezko and Rezko's good buddy, Nadhmi Auchi? And last, but not least could we have a little press about Obama's blatant Canadian NAFTA lie? WHEN are you going to take the gloves off on Obama? Why do I have to go the foreign press for this information?
Janet, Scottsdale,
I fail to see why the media is not all over this issue with Obama. He is admitting that he said oops on six state senate votes, two of which were on hotly contested issues. He calls his real estate dealings with Rezko a boneheaded move. He made one vote that is now seen as popular but not until we knew the intelligence report on Iraq was wrong. Since then he has done nothing as chairman of an oversight committee charged with the force of fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. He is ranked third behind McCain and Clinton on bi-partisan legislation efforts. Iâll stick with solutions and action over empty speeches for my vote!
Susanne Kuehl, Kittery, Maine
It's amazing :). It looks like us Americans will have to subscribe to UK newspapers to get any real news! The London Times is doing some of the most revealing journalism in regards to Obama. The US news has given him a free pass thus far and it is only starting to take on a harder stance. Too bad local papers where the elections are going to take place are still avoiding discussion of the details of Obama's background.
dpk, Seattle , WA
Did the loan call for commercially reasonable payments, and were they kept current ? If so, then maybe it is a loan. If not, then maybe in substance it is merely a money transfer in a bank secrecy jurisdiction. Get the facts straight on that. It matters.

Thanks for admitting the Republicans are the party of higher morals and values, HP/Sandusky. If we do bad things, it really says something about what the party of lower morals and values does! The truth is, Obama has done nothing to merit the following he has. He has proven only that he is a good orator. He has virtually no experience and touts "hope and change" as his platform. As someone recently said, even Hitler and Castro stood for change. It is very sad that our society, with people raised on movies and video games, "Hollywood-ize" a candidate and seriously consider putting him in charge of our country when all he has proven is that he can talk. I can only hope that wiser minds prevail. By the way, Edward from England, while you "define" that there cannot be a "British-Iraqui," saying that someone has to be one or the other, why is it possible for someone to be "African-American," "Irish-American," "Latino-American," etc., and yet not "British-Iraqui"? Very illogical.
Cady, Cedar Rapids,
Finally someone is doing some investigation on Obama's background and his associations. Too bad the US Media is too busy fawning over and worshipping Obama.
It's disgusting to watch how much biased the main stream media is towards Obama (Especially MSNBC).
The US Media is controlled by Corporations whose only objective is to increase their ratings and ad revenues. Good journalism is not even on their agenda. They have turned the election coverage into some sort of a reality show.
The only news channel I watch now is BBC.
Kay, Orlando, FL,
To HP, your remarks about the Obama Article are way off the mark. I will refer you to another article I just read yesterday who will explain who Mrs. Rezco really is. The head of the Woods Fund Board, of which Senator Obama was a paid director. Who and what is the Woods Fund Board? A group who has sent money to Hizbolla. $0 thousand one year, 35 thousand the next. The article mentioned another man, Rashid Khalioi, who is a Columbia University proffessor, who held a fund fund raised for Obama. He is a very harsh critic of Israel and The United States. He is pro-hizbolla.
The article can viewed at World Net Daily web site. Use your search engine, bring up the web page, go to the lft and click on writters, then click onto Arron Klien. Scroll down to the article and read it. Its very informitive on who you are maybe going to be voting for. the article which prompted you posting is only the tip off the iceberg so to speak. Better research it yourself. I have.
Denny Taylor, Sumner, Washington
If Obama is in any way corrupt. If he his a "false dawn" for The USA it will be terribly sad for that country. Because with him or with someone else, the place is ripe for change and there is a genuine movement for that beginning to grow in America. And when it gets going I suspect it may sweep away the old corrupt Washington. Some forces in history are way beyond the power of individuals. They can only hitch their wagon to it. For bad and evil as in the case of Hitler. For good we hope as in the case of a Roosevelt. Let us hope Obama is an honest man and not a crook. i doubt if he is a "bonehead" as he has it
Alan Wise, Manchester England, UK
So the Republican Party is the party that stands for higher morals, values and behavior. Reading many of the comments posted hear and it appears to be a party of intolerance, arrogance, narrow- mindedness and shallowness. It is disgraceful and reprehensible that party of higher morals and values will resort to vile innuendos, mis-information and even outright lies to play on the ignorance and lemming mentality of it members in itâs attempt to win an election. All it does is reinforce the image and reputation that Republicans/ Conservative are hostile, intolerable and hypocritical and will devour it's own kind if they espouse an opposing view. So this is the conservative model of behavior and tactics that you pass onto your children and grandchildren. How unbelievably sad and unproductive.
HP, Sandusky, oh
Hillary 'vetted'? Done any, er, Whitewater rafting lately? Incidentally this chap's a 'British-based' Iraqui. Tthere's no such thing as a 'British Iraqui'. He's one or the other - not both.
Edward, Lincoln, England
Why are some people so interested in the tax returns of the Clintons. The ones who are won't accuse them of anything they want to simply go on a fishing trip through them. The Clintons have been vetted more then any political family in the last 20 years.
Kefa, Wilmington, Del.
When you consider that only forty years ago the US was mired in civil rights problems, it is a sign of growing maturity for the system that an African American candidate is enjoying such broad popular support and has a serious prospect of reaching the White House. THe US now has a tremendous opportunity to transform its international image and standing with the thirld world and provide moral leadership on the big international issues. Barack Obama may well be that big opportunity we have all been waiting for.
Paul , London, United Kingdom
I feel as though I have wasted my time reading this article. No where in the article did the author lay out a compelling case for Obama's connection to Rezko. This is simply a political hit job, much like the NYT piece on McCain. Let's lift the discussion to the issues. Let's have more 16 min discussions on Health Care like the one in the last debate on MSNBC! Let's have longer, more in-depth look at each of their positions....we need to stop this type of tabloid reporting and move forward as a country!
Dutch, Detroit, MI
I have set and read most of the 316 comments about this news article. I am amazed at the angry in most of the statments. As a hole most of us don't trust the people running our country and would like change. The question we need to ask ourselves is what type of change do we want. 1st Women , 1st Colored, 1st Oldest elected president as the news media states . Or is it a different kind of change.I know for myself change would be in the form of a president that will look out for the intrest of all its people . One that would protect our boarders from war , will stop the raising cost of health care, incourage business to stay in the US ,cut taxes, and let other countrys know we respect them and their cultures but will not tolorate them disrespecting the agreemants and policies that where agreed upon by them and the USA. Just trying to find the one canidate that can repersent me, or at least come close to it.The impossible dream seeing how 35% of what a canidate said you cant trust
J C Gerwe, Cincinnati, Oh
I completely agree with Mark from Germany. It is so frustrating to be an American. This country seems to have been whipped up by a bunch of cult followers who willingly go along with the suggestions of Oprah Winfrey. How shaming! Obama is knee deep in something scandalous and this is exactly what this country does not need. I applaud the overseas media for doing what the US media won't - investigate this guy. We no longer have free press here - we have reality spun tv. The other disturbing aspect of the Obama mania is the cult like feel to this. Not even the Black radio show host Tavis Smiley (host of this weekends panel: The State of The Black Union) is safe. He and his mother recieved death threats because Tavis Smiley criticized Obama for not coming to the event (unlike Sen. Clinton who was also invited). Death threats for an opinion !! It is a very frightening time in America and reminds me of the dangerous past leaders who whipped up hysterical masses and created chaos.
Anna, New York, USA
Instead of wasting your time on stupidity like this, why don't you ask Hillary why she will not make her tax returns public.
Elaine L.
Elaine L., Manchester, N.J.
This story is all hot air. Where is there shown any wrongdoing on Obama's part? Nowhere! So he knows a shady character who knows another shady character -- is that all you've got? And as for the question of where his money came from, in addition to the executive positions his wife held, by 2005 he had authored a bestselling book that was in its second printing along with an audio version of it. That brings in quite a bit of cash on top of his normal salaries. The Obamas have a net worth of $1.3 million, well below most of the other candidates, but certainly enough to afford a $1.6 million-dollar home. The bigger question is where the Clintons got their $35 million.
Mark, Rottenburg, Germany
I don't see how a country that voted for an uneducated and ignorant man for president, not only once but TWICE, has any idea at all about what kind of "vegetable" to serve up for the next course?
My belief is that the U.S.A. is destined to continue trusting lying charlatans and narcissistic amateurs, who only like the sound of their own voices. These "snake-oil" salespersons promise the ignorant and greedy voter easy solutions and big rewards, but have no idea how to deliver.
Peter, Vancouver, BC
I could have told you so.
Hillary has already been vetted. Obama has not.
Just wait until the GOP starts on him.
Keith C., Dallas , TX
To the first poster:
Hillary failed at the healthcare plan back in the nineties but in the end she got the Childrens Health Insurance through, call the SCHIP.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a question why are the Republicans pushing to see Obama nominated, I find it very interesting!
As far as this article is concerned, what are all Obama supporters afraid of? Unless of course he does have something to hide.
Although there is more to the story than meets the eye. He did seem a little distressed about it when asked.
Fox News did have someone on today who is very close to the investigation, and had a lot to say.
Another Scandel coming to a Theater near you!
Hopefully it will be before the convention.
Theresa, Holbrook, Massachusetts, USA
As far as "scandals" are concerned, Hillary has a more extensive record that beats Obama's ANY GIVEN DAY
1. In 1993, Hillary advocated affordable health care for everyone. However, when she couldn't get everyone to agree to her plan, she withdrew from the issue completely, and let it collect dust - until now. She's rehashing the issue to support her campaign; she may betray the Americans again. Wake up, people!
2. However passionate she may be , Hillary always seemed to legitimately feel concerned for the welfare of the people (and I believe she felt that way), but actually does little or nothing about it. She's passive-aggressive!
3. Hillary was always on the defensive, and people who see through her realize that she's really "in it to win it" (her words). She's concerned about being the 1st woman president, not helping people!
4. Hillary was always spoon-fed and priveleged. Give America back to the middle class instead of feeding the rich that Clinton grew accustomed to
Mike Nalbidanian, New York, USA
I feel that this hold things is a big joke, we are the best country in the world and this is how we pick or leaders. No One on this earth has done all good things and no bad and the clinton's are the last that should talk.
jesse, Sacramento, ca
Wow, we wouldn't get this story in an American news outlet. It is as if Senator Obama can do no wrong. Anytime someone points out anything negative about him, his campaign crys foul. No one in the states is looking at his membership in a church that is exclusively black. Why not?
John T, Louisville, USA KY
Beware American citizens! Vote on policy and the political stance - don't be swayed too much by the spin or you'll regret it, look at what "New Labour" have done in the UK over the past 10 years or so...
Flagging banking, an insecure and scary place to live, a war on "terror" that saps our finances that we can't and will not win, rising living costs, failing health services and schools and an infrastructure under increasing strain from their liberal/haphazard approach to immigration...
ChasNDave, Brampton, Cumbria, UK
No matter how many questions everyone can come up with about his character, shady buissness dealings, or lack of substance in those ever so popular speaches he makes. The pea-brained (vote for any democrat) Democrats will be going to the voteing booths by the bus load pulling the lever for any clown who can say " I am for hope, future, and damn the Bush administration"
Don H., Hamilton, Mercer / New Jersey
I will never stop being amazed by people who are afraid of Barack Obama's name. That is ignorant. Obama rhymes with Osama, so some posts state, "I just don't trust him with a name like that." If you are truly that ignorant then you deserve to be in Iraq for another 100 years. You deserve to have your civil rights taken away by Bush policies that John McCain will continue to support and possibly expand. You deserve to have corporations own your government and pass laws that favor them while sticking it to you. When the air you breathe is so filthy that you suffer from illnesses related to the pollution that Bush's lacks environmental policies helped create, you should only blame yourself. You did good, though. You voted based on a gut feeling, just like the feeling about W being a good drinking buddy. It doesn't matter that Bush lied to bring us into Iraq or that we may be there forever. You trusted your gut and you got 4 more years of the same failed policies
Michael, Winston-Salem, NC, USA
Accountability for everyone. Ombama is a lawyer, he isn't that naive to make this kind of deal and not know; he got caught doing what politicians have done for many years. Just another sleezy guy, but he will not be held accountable, everyone is afraid to take him on.
John W, Fort Worth, USA
Yes but these questions will be asked by the Republican machine if he becomes the nominee. If he becomes faint at any barb aimed his way now, how will he withstand the pressure of the "Swift Boats"?
Stella, Novato, California
RE: Wolf's Post -- Your comments couldn't be more true. Don't forget the black power agenda of his church.
Could it be possible that BHO is being setup to be vilolently removed from office after he wins by the same people that are placing him there now so that they can secure more conflict in the world?
Something is very wrong here. Very wrong.
Worried, Rich, VA
Allison from Rockville thinks that the word "change" always means a good thing. Hitler wanted to "change" Germany. do you think he was the same kind of savior that you think Obama is? Never in history has anyone, even the most fervent democrat, believed we will all be living in mansions under democrat rule. Allison, you are confused, less government and more power to the people to change the world is a direct quote out of the republican playbook. Obama can't change the world for us, but WE the people can, and with that spirit anyone who wants to live in a mansion has the ability to do so.
Todd, Phoenix,
What a blog of posted misinformation. For example: Obama has been in the Senate for two years and no one has sponsored 1100 bills on anything. Why don't you really find out his accomplishments? His mother was an atheist and his father was a muslim. If you really read his books you would know that because he stated it. The Rezco deal is about crooked political dealings, not about garden patches. His Kenyan cousin is part of an ethnic cleasing going on now in Kenya to dispose the elected leader. Any of you know what ethnic cleansing is?? And the spelling and grammar, yikes. Judas Priest, the survey that said the reading level of Americans was 6th grade was sure in heck spot on.
Judith, Springfield, MO USA
This election is getting to be more and more like a science fiction novel where one candidate completely and effortlessly hypnotizes a large segment of the population and the major news media. He comes out of nowhere without any credentials and no substantive voting record. He refuses to wear the traditional US Flag lapel pin. His wife has some kind of racial psychodrama going on in her head (re Princeton thesis) and publicly states she has never been proud of her country. He is molly-coddled by the press and positioned in the debates so as not to have to answer the first questions, but allowed to pause and reflect on Clinton's answers. The media is swooning and crowing over his candidacy and news broadcasts now resemble propaganda for his candidacy. It is Orwellian and scary when the press elects the President. The daily drum beat of Barack Obama will over time reduce McCain to a non-person in this election. And Obama will moonwalk right into the Oval Office.
Wolf, Myrtle Beach, S.C>
Reading even a few of these comments are infuriating. Sen. Obama was able to buy his house because of the two books he wrote, which earned him enough money to also pay off student loan and credit card debt. There was nothing shady about this. It's embarassing that people are even insinuating that he got the money anywhere else, do people read anything anymore? I do think it is important to take a look at the backgrounds of presidential nominees, but when a story gets published, the words need to explain everything and be factually accurate, an article should not convey something to be a truth that it cannot prove.
Tara, Washington, DC,
To politics 12:
At the time of the purchase of the "mansion", Mr. Obama had a best selling book and had recieved an advance on another book, that also became a best seller. Maybe Obama didn't get the advances that Bill and Hillary got, but it was a fair amount of change.
drdeedee, baltimore, maryland
I don't see how any of this connects to Obama. The gist of the story seems to be that shady Rezko might have had a shady relationship with shady Auchi. Obama's already admitted to his connection to Rezko. What's the news here?
John, Charlottesville, USA
I love the "six degrees of Barack Obama" that the media has to play to try to make him look bad. The Rezko link is fair game, but the "corrupt associate has corrupt associates who may or may not have shaken hands with person A on one occasion" stories are just silly.
Howard, Huntington, NY, USA
State Senator Obama and his wife managed to buy a US$1.65 million dollar mansion on a combined annual income of not more than US$250,000 without a mortgage. How? The Senator has not released his tax returns for the relevant years showing how he and his managed to have this amount of capital. Also, they had small children in private day care, which in the US would be a minimum of U$30000 for both children.
A lot of unanswered questions concerning thE Senator's finances--but these questions are not asked in the USA by the compliant press afraid of being labeled 'racist'.

thomas, rochester, NY
at least jfk stood for something. This guy preaches "hope", "change" - meaningless buzzwords to get in to the whitehouse. Once there, nothing will change significantly because he simply does not have the power.
The US is headed straight for a recession, and rather than choose a president who MIGHT be bright enough to actually do something about it you choose this guy.
And WHY? Because he promises "change" - too bad you didn't stop to question whether that'd be good change or bad.
Peter, London,
A fine piece of journalism from the Karl Rove school. Makes the New York Times article on John McCain look like a Pulitzer Prize winner.
It's a very weak story. You could also link Obama to the billionaire by saying they both chewed Wrigley's (a Chicago company) Spearmint Gum. Maybe they both have eaten food from Adam's Ribs (local legendary rib place in Chicago) at different times. That's how thin this story is.
While some people believe because a story is on the internet, it's true, most of the American people have learned to be far more suspicious of online information. The internet has a higher bar after the 2004 election with the swiftboats of bs. The good news from an article like this is it probably will help fund raising for the candidate just like John McCain got a boost. This site probably has .001% of the New York Times readership though.
Brian, Seattle, USA
Senator McCain and Senator Clinton have had to face the press daily but most news agencies only sing the praises of Senator Obama. Personally, I think the light of truth should shine on all of them. I'm tired of having Obama shoved down my throat. There are seious questions about his past actions that should be looked into, instead of being ignored. The citizens of this country deserve a fair look into the lives of each candidate. Check out WorldNetDaily and look at some of the headlines concerning Barack before you annoint him King.
Glenda Webb, Nashville, TN

How is it that a young politician without a serious alternate career can afford a $1.65 Million Dollar Mansion? This is another case of big money finding its way in to the political arena to buy influence. Barak Obama claims that he doesn't take money from Lobbyists, but then again he gets in other ways. Denny Hastert and Senator Reid both benefited from their sons as lobbyists who then represented special interests to them. Diane Feinstein has provided insider information for her husband's bidding on govt. contracts, and now we find out the Mr. "Change" is in there slugging it out with the best of them for money to live the "good life" for himself and his Princeton Princess (who just became "proud for the first time..." of her country).
We have lost our country to the wolf pack of corruption. It started when we were sleeping and bamboozled in to a two party system, and it was consecrated when in the 1980's when we allowed the formation of Political Action Committees.
Rich, Delray Beach, Florida
To the commenters...I guess everybody has their own personal reality and bias. Can we just be objective and stop being so cynical and parainoid?
Greg Falla, New Briatin, CT
I have to agree with Pepe of Washington DC: the premise of your article is guilt by association. You state that the Obamas could not afford their 'mansion', but how do you know?
In a recent article in Elle magazine, Michelle Obama was stated to be earning in excess of US$300,000. Combine that with Mr Obama's salary AND given the ease with which credit is obtainable in the US (just look at the sub-prime disaster), it is not inconceivable that the Obamas could have benefited from preferential credit/mortgage facilities often given to those who earn a lot.
This is not the sort of journalism one expects of The Times! Give us facts, true investigative journalism and analysis. NOT innuendo!
Ford, Paris, France
I'm a Republican who intends to vote for Barak Hussein Obama. Americans, for the most part, are idiots. We deserve him. When he changes all of your bills to pennies, you will have your change. When he taxes you for your Carbon Footprint, you'll have your change. When he opens the boarder and your incomes look close to those in Mexico, I'm quite sure you will rejoice. When the Hollywood elite put you all in Yugos as they continue driving their Lemos, I'll sit back and laugh. My financial interests are offshore. Good luck America. You deserve Barak. I'll return when the revolution begins. We're a nation of idiots.

Mistake? Maybe. But think about it... anyone stupid and/or shady enough to make that kind of "mistake" doesn't deserve to be elected to the highest office in the land.
Kathy, Tampa, FL
Did you know: Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming "America's first African-American president" ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative ethnically African Negro - a maternal great-grandparent (Sen. Obama's great-great grandparent, thus the 6.25% ethnic contribution to the senator's ethnic composition.).
That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side.
Put another way, his father could honestly claim African-American ethnic classification. He was the last generation able to do so. Sen. Obama could honestly say, "My father was African-American." As you can see for yourself, Sen. Obama's African-American ethnic claim, when properly researched and documented, is a lie.

As a Republican, I would be confident of Hillary Clinton's ability to be an effective President if she is elected. Obama would be
the easiest candidate for McCain to defeat. All fluff and no substance. Yes, the media is giving him a free ride compared
to their treatment of Hillary. Will we ever get through to December so we can take out the holiday decorations?

As we become more diverse and politically correct - we are becoming more like third world countries. The news media is putting palm fronds down in front of Obama like he's JFK who just rolled the stone back and emerged from the tomb and Hillary Clinton is being stoned by the press like she forgot to put on her burka. Obama gets an endorsement from a rabid anti semite and racist Farrakan and the press doesn't mention it. Chris Matthews on MSNBC Hardball is getting the "vapors" like some drama queen from Savannah and tingling in his legs when Obama speaks. Eugene Robinson from the Washington Post - and others who are supposed to be tough insightful journalists are swooning at the sight and mutterings of Obama. Matthews because Obama takes him back to his precious Camelot and Robinson understandably because Obama represents his race. It is fascinating to watch the once bullet proof Clintons in their Alamo and some of their loyal dem friends jumping ship without a goodbye.

I think americans need to wake up be fore it is to late. I agree with terry from texas & Jub from Nj. I also have read the
website of his church. What really scares me is that people are so easily persuaded. He is definately not ready to be president. To get an endorsement from Daniel Ortega make me really wonder what is next. Also trying to cover up his back ground makes me have guestions. He has said that Hilary has things to hide, get real! we all know about the Clintons. I am also tired of him saying she voted for the war. all the senators did due to what was being set at the time. they were being lied to just as we were as a nation. so the blame go to the president. How dare he says he voted against the war. he was'nt even a senator at the time, but has voted along party lines since in office. and to say that the clintons have used race in their campaign is his way to disgreted her.
WAKE UP AMERICANS BEFORE IT IS TO LATE

Regardless of whether you are a Dem or Rep, the bottom line is that some backroom dealing went on. I am a vet of the current Iraq war and proud of it. Would this "loan" be such a hot topic if the lender was not from the middle east. People need to be careful not to let prejudices based on current world events take away from a candidates capability to run the country. If this was a loan from an Irish guy in Boston would it be such big news - I submit to you that it would not. Thanks for letting me vent a bit.

This article leaves out the fact that Obama purchased the home with his own money from a book deal for one his best-selling books written prior to being elected to the U.S. Senate. The sellers of the home are on record in the U.S. media: the Obama offer was the highest offer they received for the property - so the "discount" talk is nonsense. Furthermore, he paid market value for the strip of land he purchased to increase the size of his yard. As an Obama supporter, I am actually glad this story is being aired now so that hopefully the focus can return to the issues.
J Woods, Norfolk, VA, USA
Politics as usual. Lets look deeper into how we can turn all of this around and get some real politicians who have ethics and morals. Politicians who will look at the bigger picture and put America First ahead of there own greed. McCain has his faults but his experience and his attempt at integrity gets my vote.
Marina Del Rey , California

What did Obama pay for the strip of land? I don't see that fact in the story. And how much of the tract that Mrs. R. bought for $650,000 did the strip of land comprise?

Surprise! Politicians enter the arena for 'public service'...is it not surprising how many get involved in feathering their own nest!!!

Something that really bothers me about Obama is that he smokes. He talked about it on Oprah before he declared, but no one talks about it now. He has a lot of other issues, as well. This would be a terrible example for kids.
Linda, Illinois, USA
Senator Obama's wife earned over $250,000 a year, people. And Senator Obama got over 1.5 million dollars from his books. It is beyond me, why all the fuss about money. I think we all have had friends who hid what they were doing to get money. Even if someone he knew was odd, doesn't make him odd. Even Jesus hung around thieves - some the disciples were once outside the law.

Someone says that mansion is an issue. I do not think so. America needs Change. Everyone can get their ~own~ mansion freely.
We need change. Without Change, we are behind. If we are behind, we will lose our opportunity to change further.

"Change we can believe in"
But who believes in CHANGE? Aren't we supposed to believe in changing SOMETHING? Obama will bring change, alright, the kind of change we must RUN from. Hope? The hope he peddles to the masses doesn't include innocent newborns. Unity? Please, he talks of unity but his positions are actually REALLY radical. How can he possibly reach across the aisle when he's so far on the left?

history if we learn nothing else repeats itself given time. Time will make us ignorant of what misstakes we made in the past and how we paid for those misstakes. I don't understand why some people are saying people are voting for Obama because he is black, this is a very racist mindset. This country has never had a black person as vice president not to talk of president. Why didn't they support Alan Keyes because he is black, why didn't they support Jesse Jackson because he is black. Obama is the only senator of African descent in the US senate. The truth is Obama has a message and people are tuned in. Or do you think he is just showing up and saying "look at me I am black, now go vote for me."
Nardi, chase,
I love this!!! Finally the man being scrutinized. There has been this media bias towards Barack, THE MAN COULD DO NO WRONG! We know obviously that is not the case. I do not dislike Obama it's just that I feel anyone running for president should and be willing to be scrutinized to make sure they are qaulified and to let the voters know all aspects before making their decisions. Why the walmart hypocrisy was not in the media more I don't know. He attacked Hillary for being on the Walmart board when his own wife worked for a company who's biggest client was Walmart. The fact that he attacked Hillary for having "poor" judgement when the story stated here shows he admitted to making a boneheaded mistake.

I find it interesting that the Clinton's were put through the scrutiny of the Republican party and press for years for every business deal and relationship they had. Now that the scrutiny is on Obama, all of a sudden his supporters are screaming this is unfair and racist. Well, "excuse me"! What is good for the Clinton's is also good for Obama and McCain or any other candidate running for president. In my mind, it is very unusual for Obama to afford a house in that price range. And the deal with Rezko's wife just stinks "pay off". Wake up, America, and analyze the candidates. Obama passes himself off as clean and pure but look harder or we will end up with 4 more years of lying in Washington. This situation with Rezko is all over the Chicago papers. Obama can't just throw up his hands and say he made a mistake in 2005. This was a big one and deserves serious analysis by the press.
Paula, Chicago, Illinois
You would think that Obama is the new CRUSADER that has come from above to save this country. Come on people, wake up and smell the roses. This man is just RHETORIC and has NO REAL PLAN for our country, but to actually BEND TO OUR KNEES to every COUNTRY that has come to hate us. God help us if this man becomes our president, because he is going to do MORE HARM to this country then Hillary. I don't like any of the candidates that are running this year, including McCain, but please, DON'T LET OBAMA become our new CRUSADER as he has made everyone believe. He has LOTS OF FAULTS, but the mainstream media has yet to come out with any of those FAULTS. Someday it will be WAY TOO LATE and OUR COUNTRY WILL BE HELD CAPTIVE by "who knows who". GOD HELP US.
Rhonda, Primrose, Nebraska
Let's see here: Whitewater bribes, Gennifer Flowers affair, Monica Lewinksy dealings, Impeachment, Vince Foster's mysterious and untimely death prior to splling some beans on the Clintons, and now a plan to give even more power to the Gov't by garnishing my wages for "equal" health care, so I can wait in line even longer at the doctor whether I want to or not .... -OR- someone who is not a HillBilly or a Bush legacy with years of baggage hanging on, except for the possibility of having a not-so-nice guy from Britain help fund his home? This is a no brainer.
Darryl, Huntsville, USA
It was only a matter of time before the sqeaky clean image of Barack Obama showed signs of "cracking"! Like John McCain with his "affair" with a lobbyist, Senator Obama is now finding out the true meaning of "Life in a fishbowl"!!!! By his own admission, Senator Obama "made a mistake" getting involved in a questionable land deal in his hometown! Obama is about to discover that the closer he gets to the nomination, the more intense the scrutiny is going to be! Maybe candidate Obama ought to "lay his cards on the table" before he proceeds any further in his campaign! Senator Obama is about to find out that he is going to become familiar with the words "damage control"!
Ed Chapman, Woodbridge, USA / Virginia
Mr. Obama needs to be looked at very carefully because of his lack of experience and governance exoertise.,This incident just shows me further than this candidate is not miracle worker despite his constant messianic call for change and undefined hope. Change and hope are good, but there needs to be more substance here to have any chance for realistic and positive change. We don't need pie in the sky or change that comes out of a political vending machine. We need substantive discussion and policiy debates in order to make a rational, not emotional choice for our next President.
L. S. Kleinschmidt, Cincinnati , OH
Itâs about time that the media has sighted some of Obamaâs wrong doings, instead of plastering his face all over our TVâs everyday as the heir for the top job!!! When I hear change with out a studied plan, it gives those of us who work for a living false hope that things will really change. These little laps in judgment in buying a mansion with campaign money sought after by a convicted scam artist by Mr. Obama is most likely the tip of the iceberg. And the first time I here one of the net works bring out the race card, that will be the last time I listen to them, as they donât have any issue with airing bad press about Hillary or the others in the race. It appears that any time Hillary tries to sight some of his shady past dealings; she is hit for being negative??? If itâs being negative by reporting the truth about someoneâs past dealings, then Iâm in full support of negative campaigning.
IAM Seattle, Buckley, wa.
People are sayinh Mr. Obama is for change, there is only one question, change from what to what?
Richard, Queens, NY
You people that want the Obama change - just what end state are you seeking? I still have not heard what Obama wants to change, or what he has accomplished in the Senate. You'd better get all the facts - remember, Obama's pastor thinks Louis Farrakhan is the greatest savior of the world!!! And Obama's ties to the Chicago thug Rezko is really scarey.
So you want change, huh? Put a dollar bill in a vending machine, you'll get change.
Jim, Norwalk, WI
Year after year it seems to stay the same as far as our presidential choices are concerned. An awful lot of people end up voting for what they feel is the least worst candidate. I think that is a sorry state of affairs.
Dale Berhow, Erskine, MN
I can see that Obama has his own apologists just like the Clintons had. In their eyes, it matters not what they do. Why does it not surprise me that ANY criticism is met with charges of racism? Hasn't that been the model that has worked over an over now for DECADES? That excuse is wearing thin my friends. Someday, somehow, blacks are going to have to take responsibility for their actions the same way the rest of the races do in America. I thought Barack was supposed to be the start of that. I guess I was wrong.
Mark, Jacksonville, FL
Obama is not the squeaky-clean, non-Washington-politics politician he has fooled everyone into believing he is. When are the American people going to wake up? .... Bush re-elected 4 years ago and now Obama mania.

Hello, Jimmy Carter?
I'll never forget everyone jumping on the Jimmy Carter bandwagon. That peanut farmer seemed like such a nice guy . . . he gave us hope.
People were sick of Nixon and Ford and the republicans and they wanted "change" and something "different."

When first confronted regarding the same-day purchases of real estate, Obama pleaded ignorance as to any knowledge that the Rezkos were interested in the adjacent property. That such could occur in a metropolitan area the size of Chicago is too improbable to believe. Obama then declared this real estate scheme which saved him $300k to be a "boneheaded" mistake. "Boneheaded," apparently, not because of the savings, but because Obama was found out. How nice to have a Democratic candidate engaged in shady relationships and dealings with Iraqi and Syrian businessmen. Yet the press in America (excepting the Chicago Tribune) gives him a free pass. Any possible validation for their lifetime of pathetic ineffectiveness and political/social worldview hangs in the balance, after all.
Tom, Chicago,
It seems that the paid bloggers from Obama's campaign have been unleashed on all the boards to try to convince people that 1)Clinton should be questioned about her dealings (explain dealings when blogging) 2) Obama has enough money to buy that property and why; The Obama campaign tells the bloggers what to say on these blogs; they have an answer for everything, including spins for his plagierism, Michelle's unpatriotic words, Obama's unpatriotic actions, Muslim garm, Reszco, etc. They have answered an important question yet. But the list of questionable activities grows larger and my gut tells me that there is something not right here about his entire campaign, including the bias toward him by the media. Something is definitely not right.
Jennifer, Olmsted Township, OH
People say "we need real change, vote for Hillery!" Yeah, sure, and the only change you see is the small amount of coin in your pocket. Obama offers NOTHING that the Hillery of beans doesn't offer, albeit I feel like screaming "Praise Jesus!" at the end of one of his speeches. Nothing but glittering generalities with either one of them.
And then there's McCain. Or should I say "McCaineddy". Heck, if you want real liberalism, vote for McCain, he'll change everything too. I can't say for the better, though.
There's no one to vote for, folks. They all suck rotten eggs. From the sophomoric speechs of Obama to the snide, arrogant smile of McCain, we're all screwed.
And the next time someone says to vote for Obama over Hillery or vice versa, I'm going to scream. THEY ARE THE SAME CANDIDATE! Somewhere there's a makeup artist with a can of white and black makeup. The two have proposed ALL THE SAME changes.
Where's R. Reagan or JFK when you need them? Alas...
Bryan, Phoenix, AZ
In the history of the Western world men of Mr. Obama's hue have been looked upon with utter contempt. What each of us must do is to put what he is doing in context. You don't have this media frenzy about an African leading this nation without the dehumanizing experience of American slavery. People want to "expose" him. They want to plow thru his record with a fine tooth comb. Yet these same people want the American African to forget about enslavement, lynching and all of the atrocities committed by the US. We are unsure about Obama because of a somewhat shady land deal?? Why not question the entire system? You see Obama thru the lens of racism. You see him as a former slave, not as a human much less as a man.
Uhuru, Washington,
Mr. Obama admits to a "boneheaded mistake" Presidents can't make "boneheaded mistakes" or people die.
Brent, Fayetteville, Arkansas
I think I could get the hype that Obama gets. I would simply state all the things that are not going to happen like he does. How does this sound? "I will cure cancer, there are too many hard working americans dying everyday from this disease", "Free Healthcare for the poor is not enough, do you need a house?, I will make sure every person in America has a home to call their own." How about this one: "I will eliminate crime, you should be able to walk at night wherever you want and not live in fear" Obama mania is easy to get: Just say what sounds good!!!!!!
Don, Carolina,
Even "if" the Clinton campaign leaked this I am happy they did! We need to know about Obama's character and if main stream media is not going to expose it someone needs to. Everyone has skeleton's and we need to judge who has the heaviest amount of hidden "boneheaded" corrupted morals. American's hardly know anything about this candidate and those who follow him without knowing his character are following a ghost. It is the media who is claiming Obama has the victory but I disagree. I believe the vast amount of Americans voting want someone with experience and the Republican candidates are not lacking in this field. The photo published of him wearing a turban is disturbing on many levels. He will wear the costume of another country but will refuse to sport the American flag pin? I find this to be a political travesty! What's next a new design for the American flag? He is nothing more than a motivational speaker and lacks the substance or qualifications to run this country.
Trish Raymond, Oklahoma City, USA!
How has not ONE media "expert' asked Obama

Just wondering.

It is our own fault . We end up with these people for our chioces for president!!?? Because we listen to a media that is more interested in Britney than Darfur.

As an immigrant, I came to this country about 15 years ago. I am now a US citizen, as a matter of fact, I voted in the last two general presidential election. When I first registered to vote I registered as Democrat, well probably because my parents are democrat; however, a couple years ago I changed to independent; because I observed that there is no major difference between the two; well it is American Politic....
I have followed the candidates presidential campaign closely and I decide to cast my vote for Barak Obama. I think that he represents the Real Change that the United States Of America need right now to move forward. As a native Haitian I do like Sen. Clinton, but we realy do need the change.
Double J, West Palm Beach , Florida
I am for Barak Hussien Obama because I am for change and he is for change and I believe he will change things and no one will be left unchanged after he is elected to change things.

This is ridiculous!!! My husband and I have a combined income of $150, 000 and we bought a $500, 000 house. The Obama's are worth 1.9 million dollars according to their latest taxe return. They can easily afford a $ 4 million house or 3.5 times their annual income.
ZZZ, richmond, va
Definition of liberal: free from bigotry. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. Sounds like Jesus was a liberal, not too bad. George Bush saving the Iraqis from Saddam, a mass murderer and dictator, was acting like a liberal because he cared (as he put it) for the people of Iraq, to free them from this bad man. So George Bush is a liberal. Not too bad is it, to be a liberal. Check out the antonym of a liberal, sounds like most conservatives. Terrorists hijacking Islam is like the conservative right wing christians hijacking the Republican party. I'm a christian and proud to say that I align myself with the Democrats. Helping Americans First!!! Then we can deal others around the world.

Listening to Obama brings to mind the saying " You can fool all of the people some of the time ...." . This man is the old style snake oil salesman, selling the wonders of his wares but never actually telling you their contents or their price. He promises to change everything but never tells you how, where or how much it will cost you either in monetary terms or in terms of freedom. We had the same thing here in the UK ten years ago - since then we have lost our freedom of speach under the guise of faning the fires of racism, freedom of movement due to surveillance cameras everywhere, and most recently freedom of communication after a law was rushed thru allowing phone and internet taps on any citizen. All this is paid for by higher and higher taxes because change costs money, with our masters in the EU taking their cut as well. It's too late for us here in the UK, but Americans should look and learn from our mistakes - never trust a smooth talker who has style but no substance.

I have not fallen for the smooth oratory of Barack Hussein Obama. Way too inexperienced and way too liberal. Wants to spend all of our hard earned money and give it to the many that don't work or have little. I don't understand why so many get caught up in his hype. I feel I am at a somewhat religous or spiritual revival when I listen to him speak. We don't know much about him at all except and l ikes to use other peoples words and that Farakhan really likes him. That is really scary..

Obama is a big walking controversy. The problem is not that we pick on him, he is runing for the best job the world has to offer, and we have to be picky on who we place there. The guy doesn't even talk about patriotism...he talks about change. His wife is not patriotic...let's quote her "for the first time...I feel proud of this country!" wow lady! What really scares me is that he has the same punch line (CHANGE) that placed Fidel Castro in power, oh and Hugo Chavez, and Pyonyang...Change sometimes is not good! I hope in seeing and hearing more from him, but for now I am a little scared about the man!
Viurniel Sanchez, Miami, Florida
Obama is a total loser! I can't believe so many believe the garbage coming out of his mouth. America wake up from your stupor and vote for the only Democrat who has the ability and experience to lead us out of this hell hole Bush has dug us into--GO HILLARY!
LMGZ, Eagle Pass, TX/USA
Enlightenment .......... please. This guy has no experience to run the United States. John McCain isn't perfect either, but why do people think Obama is so "perfect for America"? Give me a break. If you owned Microsoft, would you want this guy running your company after only 2 years in management? Think about it. Hope is great, but what gives this guy the qualifications to run the most powerful country in the world? Name his accomplishments .........
Jim, Washington ,
It doesn't matter who wins, Obama, Hillary or McCain. Obama is not going to "change" a thing (and for those that think he is you need to look up rhetoric in the dictionary) expect maybe what you pay in your unconstitutional income taxes to make the share holders in the Federal Reserve richer. Nothing will change and once again the media will feed the candidate of their choice to the American people who will once again eat it up like a great big idiot pie. Watch âAmerica: Freedom to Fascismâ if you would like to be further enlightened.
John, Avon, Indiana
With all due respect to Ms. Jacobson:
"As an Illinois journalist I have followed this story carefully. There is no there there. "
As any kind of journalist, you should see that the issue is not the land. The issue is Obama's lengthy (and profitable) relationship with a known slumlord who is under indictment for extortion.
In the same way that the McCain/lobbist issue is not about whether McCain "did the deed", but whether someone profited from the relationship (whatever it was).
HRC is not squeaky clean. But the news flash for Obama supporters is this: No one in Washington is. And HRC has no skeleton in her closet that has not already been rattled by the GOP.
The American media has a DUTY to the electorate to show us our candidates in the most releastic light, and allow us to choose whom we accept, warts and all.
From the very beginning of this campaign, that has NOT happened. And, personally, I find the rose-colored hysteria surrounding Obama deeply embarrassing.
Salt Laker, Salt Lake City, USA, UT
Herb Gray, you have got to be kidding. Obama has how much experience? How do you know if "Obama will bring in a new era of American enlightenment and pride?" I do believe that Obama's wife just stated that for the FIRST TIME in her adult life she is proud to be an American. Has there been nothing to be proud of for the last 25-30 years? Obama has never served his country in the military, and he has only a few years of government experience. So what makes you think he will bring change? Because he says so? Redistribute wealth, universal health care...sounds like a socialistic agenda to me.
Jay Coe, St. Clair Shores, United States, Michigan
Obama will "bring in a new era of American enlightenment"? What? Is Obama to be our Guru now? Is it his sparkling wisdom in the words "We are the change we have been waiting for." Is that enlightenment? Why is anybody sucking up to a politician for enlightenment?
Take a closer look, Obama's policy positions are not so different from Hillary's. Obama's voting record is the most reliable left wing party line vote in the Senate. He's not bucking the power in Congress, he's in lockstep with it. It's hard for me to see that as change.
Donald, New Orleans, LA
Liberals calling "right wingers" clueless? Now that is rich... I suppose I am to the right of "stupid." You simply can't go left of it.

It's scary to me how many people are getting "suckered in" to the spell of a relatively unknown Obama. He may be charismatic, but he has virtually zero experience. There are just too many unknowns about this guy. And he has yet to reveal how he plans to fund all of his pie-in-the-sky dreams.
Too much smoke is starting to appear around the once squeaky clean Barack Hussein Obama.
Sorry, but I'm not buying any of it.

Why wasn't this reported months ago, when it was known for 2 years now? The Rezko trial is set to start on March 3. I hope obama is made to testify under oath.
If obama gets the nomination: I, & 2 friends, & my sister are not going to vote at all. The nasty abuse by obama supporters will not be forgotten. To heck with "unifying the Democratic Party". I would rather see a Republican back in office than obama as President. I encourage all Hillary supporters and obama loathers to either NOT VOTE, or VOTE INDEPENDANT, if obama gets the nomination & goes against McCain. obama can gravel on his hands and knees & beg for Hillary-supporters' votes, but I sure hope that they take a vow to not vote for him. This is the nastiest campaign I can remember, & you can bet that if Hillary had won, obama supporters would be saying the same thing. We'll begin to "heal the Democratic Party" years from now, if ever. I've never voted anything but Democrat, but this year I will, if I have to.

Senator Obama is the only candidate that offers hope, and change.
He is the only one that can give us change, and hope!
Real change and real hope.
Not fake change, and fake hope.
Change, hope.
Hope, change.
Change.
Hope.
Hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change.
Mr. Obamas critics want us to name one accomplishment.
But, all his critics offer is not hope, and not change!
Sure John McCain will probably offer us some fake hope, and fake change....but we won't fall for that.
We want real hope, and real change.
Hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change.

Finally equal treatment by the media. Too bad they couldn't have started to scrutinize Obama like this back in January. Then maybe the country wouldn't have their head so far up his...
Hillary and Bill both survived the republican attack machine, Obama will not!! I know what I am getting with Hillary. Obama could be the manchurian candiate for all I know.
Thank you for finally reporting the dirt I always felt was there.

I am starting to think that Nader would be a good choice. Just imagine when all the money that's spent to manipulate politics for greed was spent to improve quality of education, health care, equal rights and opportunity among other things, that would improve the conditions of human life. I would think that there is enough money to go around to really make a differnce.
Whoever becomes the next president, I would hope she or he will put America first. It's time to allow other developed nations to show leadership in helping to make this planet a better place while America can regroup and rebuild its strength.
Younmi, San Francisco,
Obama is not about change. This is same old politics, particularly in Illinois, which has seen many of the last several governors indicted on corruption charges. Obama is about the machine and he could not be where is today without the machine backing him. And the machine keeps getting larger--so many, many debts he will owe to his new political friends.
Rezko buildings for the poor and indigent were/are completely run-down. There are many good articles floating around, but they are not in the mainstream media. It is true that the American media has been very gentle with Obama. I would not have known the connection to Auchi without reading it here, in a British news outlet.
PS. Dick Durbin, our other Illinois senator, makes it to central Illinois to address constituent concerns. Still trying to figure out what Obama has done for Illinois residents outside of Chicago....
Monica, Morton, Illinois, USA
I'm in shock!!! I just finished visiting the Trinity United Church of Christ website (www.tucc.org) and can't believe that Mr. Obama would chose this particular church as his choice of place to worship Jesus Christ. As the President of the United States, he is supposed to represent all Americans but according to the by-laws of TUCC his first obligation is towards his race. I'll refrain from making any further comments; however; I do encourage all readers to visit his church's website. I'm sure most of you will be quite surprised.

I am so sick and tired of what you say Obama does. What about Billary, and the years that the spent wiggling out of one mess into another. There is nothing you can do or say that will change millions of minds. Obama is better than Clinton with her crying self, and McCain with his forgettful self.

Would people please quit parroting "for the first time in my life I'm proud to be an American" and this nonsense about "change" from Obama's campaign. If you are really embarrassed about what America has done over the last 20 years then you have to be the most self centered person around (I'm sure those helped by the Tsunami or the Pakistan quake in 2005 weren't embarrassed by the U.S) and where is this change? Most of his "new" ideas are the same ideas we have been hearing the Kennedy clan talk about for years. I'm not saying people should vote for McCain or Clinton but at least think for yourself and not just blindly follow his campaign slogans.
Joel, Seattle, WA
This guy is a wolf in sheeps clothing. We have not seen anything yet!!!
Alexa Brady, Chicago, IL USA
There is no guarantee that "change" will be for the better. By all indications, Obama's policies will result in, among other wrong directions for our country, tax increases for the middle class and upper middle class - the new "rich" in the eyes of left-wingers (which is where the bulk of the money to run the country has always been), perceived and/or actual weakness and retreat in our ongoing fight against terrorists (i.e., prematurely bugging out of Iraq before that democratic republic achieves reasonable stability and strength, thus raising the risk of future terrorist attacks by giving them a victory on the eve or their major defeat in Iraq), and the socialization and increased governmental meddling into the delivery of health care (i.e., overall reduced access and reduced quality of care as has happened in Canada and Great Britain).
Gary, Jackson, MS
Obama has nothing new or novel to offer. He is only good at making speeches without substance. I want to reserve judgment about his financial dealings as in due course of time, the facts will come out. If the Democrats are crazy and blind to choose Obama for the Presidential race, then I would either abstain or will vote for the grand pa McCain. Sorry, I cannot trust Obama.
Kris Rao, Normal, Il. 61761
It is such a shame that so many of our youth are having the wool pulled over their eyes by this movement of Obama. What the hell does he stand for? I haven't figured that out yet because he has not told us! CHANGE what kind of change? I have traveled outside of the United States, and yes people still love what America stands for. But don't be fooled by other dicatorial leaders and countries that DO NOT have governments governed by the people. Our media choses to slant your news and reporting by their beliefs! If you have not met individuals that have really been helped by another American You are missing everything the USofA stands for. I was a Dem for 30 years, I now have been registered Rep for 2.5 years. America please stay strong not only for America but the world, they need us now more than ever because of this radical belief that if we are not just like them then we need to be destroyed. I believe McCain will defend American beliefs not just for Republicans but all of us. Believe

When campaigns raise enough money to afford stylists, tons of personal assistants, and all the others on the payroll- who are they trying to impress? Middle Class Americans want truth-patriotism-justice-fairness and someone who believes in working for their paycheck. The whole process is in need of an overhaul- who will be the one to finally stand up there, without all the millions of dollars backing them, and bring the TRUE change we Americans-(white,black,asian,hispanic,etc..)-
want and need so much? I don't care if you wear pants, suits, dress- what is in your head? How do you plan to accomplish this goal?
People- the system is broke-top to bottom! If we get a good President- he/she still has to deal with a dirty money grubbing congress and senate! Get involved on your local levels and search out people of good character- learn more about the process- don't believe what the press tells you - research it for yourselves. Think for yourself! Looking forward to 2012!

I sometimes wonder why Americans bothered with their War of Independence at all.
They go all gooey eyed over the families of political elite voting in father and son, and now possibly husband and wife. If that's what you want you should have just stuck with the Royal family - they're far more benign.
They supposedly fought for independence to control their own currency then sat idly back as it was taken away by Woodrow Wilson and the Banking elite with the Federal Reserve Act. You should have stuck with Pound Stirling.
Come on, admit it - you're all closet Brits at heart.

I'm not sure persons with such poor memories, as the Clintons and Obama should be considered for such a high position in our government!

Well finally some truth comes out. Mr Obama isn't squeeky clean! What a shocker.......not!
Get a clue America-the best most qualified and most caring person running for president is Hillary Clinton.
GO HILLARY GO-DO NOT QUIT!!!

For those of you who claim we need Obama because the rest of the world looks at us as a joke and hates us, they hate us because we`re so easily swayed by cookie-cutter rhetoric such as the type we`re being fed by this disgrace of a politician. Im a college student in Ny and it disgusts me how my peers are hypnotized by fancy words and dramatics. Anyone notice that 'change' isnt exactly a new idea? That every politician is always promising change? Go ahead and waste your vote on him, a democratic president will give you just as much change as a democratic congress has.
Elvin, New York City,
AMERICA- You must wake up!! Why are all of you jumping on the Obama wagon? What has he done for us? All he can do is give a good speech! Hillary CARES about the working class, and she wants to make this country better. If Obama is elected, we are in for a lot of turmoil. I am afraid it will be bad, really bad.
Brandy, Benton, AR
I love all of the comments from the clueless right-wing idiots who are stuck in the 1950's. Even more funny is how Fox, clearly a very biased right news channel, immediately starts attacking Obama before he even has the candidacy. Wow what a huge surprise....

Shaun, London,
John McCain, a good man, stands for more of Bush, more war, more destruction of the middle class, even if better managed. The same is true of Hillary Clinton, who is all wind and no substance. Obama will bring in a new era of American enlightenment and pride.

Obama talks of CHANGE! What CHANGE is he talking about? As the Senator of Illinois he has done absolutely nothing for the people of my state. Most of his senate votes on important issues are logged as PRESENT. He doesn't have the courage or conviction to even vote YES or NO. Is that the kind of change we want for a leader? The liberal media in the US is afraid to question his campaign because they are afraid to be branded as racists and the young generation, like mindless zombies, brainwashed in the US educational system controlled by radical, left wing professors have fallen for Obama's message of CHANGE. CHANGE to what?

You folks who say Obama is a Muslim are a clueless and likely racist lot. Your ignorance will be exposed the day Barack Obama takes the oath of office of the President of the United States with his hand firmly placed on a Christian bible.
Argue that he's too liberal, argue that he's inexperienced, argue that you don't like the smell of this land deal. But please, dredging up falsehoods about Obama being a Muslim - falsehoods long since proven to be lies - smells of desperation...and veiled racism.

How about the way Clinton's tried to get a lobbist to buy their mansion and now charge the US Gov $10,000 for Secret Servicemen to stay in the back garage? Gees, get real people. I don't believe for one minute Obama is as corrupt as the Clintons.

Obama has his own share of scandals. He's nothing new.
I don' get his appeal at all.
There are so many red flags that it is a horror movie.
I swore I would never vote for another Republican, but I'll fight Obama to the end. Please give us Hillary!

As a voter, this story doesn't matter to me all. I will still vote for Obama. With him, there is always a possibility that he will "do a Beckett." and become one of the best Presidents in history, after he is elected. No such chance exists for Hilary, who won't even publish her net worth and where it comes from And, Obama didn't receive the money, Rezko did. He has previously been identified as a a contributor rather than a fundraiser. It's a sordid little story but He has not sent anyone's child off to die in a frivolous war as has Bush, and Clinton.....and as McCain wishes to do for the next hundred years if necessary. All parents in America will vote against anyone who tries to send their children away to die for Standard Oil. Or who refuses to bring them home.

I then bought a house in Hawaii with less than a $200,000 mortgage. It sold for $1.29M. I took proceeds and bought a condo on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle for $800K... and sold it 2.5 years later within 10 days of listing it for over my asking of my $1.15M asking price. I say that if you do it right, you can afford a $1.65M home!

When the final hour is reached and we have elected another President, we will patiently wait. We will wait to hear and see if our collective Presidential choice is ready to serve our needs and wants from the very first day. We will wait, and we will hope. We will wait and wait and wait. Then alas, we will have to wait for still another four years!

In the decades following WWII, America was strong, both economically and militarily. Other countries both feared and respected us. If a weak and socialist America is your thing,
vote Democratic in November. If not, vote Republican.
Wake up again Americans, rally around our strong and proud heritage. Don't open the door to left wing liberalism and allow our great country to gradually retreat into a government controlled socialist entity.

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. We know there is no free lunch, that too good to be true is usually trouble in the wait. The young people that are so taken with Obama have little or no life experience in sorting out truth from fiction. They will get excited long enough to give Obama the lead and then they will move on to the next bright and shiny attraction. That's how I see Obama, bright and shiny with little sub-stance. I hope someone takes the time to investigate who is behind getting Obama from being unknown to the front runner of today if the media is correct. The democratic party can't afford to have a nominee that's only bright and shiny, too good to be true if they want a win in Nov . The republican machine will use all they can against Obama to insure another four years of Bush policy with McCain at the helm. Women voters, get informed, look deeper than what the male controlled media is letting you see and then be heard!

I think its ridiculous people wondering where he go his money from .. his combined family income is above 350K not to mention the bestselling books. Obama is not perfect, but I think what he is trying to build is a campaign that empowers the people and everyone should not be shocked about all this negative news obviously he will be criticized .. that is true of all great leaders.

I have researched their records and heard all the debates and speaches and I like what he represents...Change. Change does not occur unless people take a chance and that is what people are doing. Mistake on day one does not refer to a mistake made in Obama's personal life-land deal -it refers to Clinton's mistake that gave George Bush permission to go to war. This is a national mistake. Obama'a mistake has not resulted in any loss of life and he has admitted to it. But Clinton cannot admit to her mistake which has also resulted in loss of lives.

Ties to a corrupt Muslim Billionaire even Obama admits to...What are people thinking of in considering him for the most important job in the United States! Does anyone out there realize why a Powerful Muslim would be interested in Senator Obama....to the tune of giving him over a million dollars.....? I sure hope everyone carefully considers the facts and investigates how Obama plans to fulfill his promises. Barack Obama isn't qualified in any way to be the president of the U.S. The one thing he has in common with the other candidates is his dishonesty. His main problem is that he and his wife are "Black" first and Americans second. I don't want a president to be anything buy American first. They aren't fit to live in the White House.

I'm fascinated at the public perception that lawyers who enter politics somehow bring a mountain of wealth with them on their political journey. Senator Obama was an junior member of a law firm and I will speculate made under $150,000 a year as an Associate. The real money comes when you enter politics and shady characters wink-wink at you and point you to the right investments or teach you how to flip real estate really cheap. Obama is not unique but where this issue hurts him is in his message of being a Washington outsider, not part of the system and all hopeful for change. He is just as crooked as most of the rest of them -- he's just younger and still learning the ins and outs of corruption.

I'm quite impartial to both candidates however I am slightly worried that many of the pro-Obama commentators are completely blind to anything negative about Obama. They sound very similar to the people who put Bush into power without ever casting a critical eye over him. Ties to a corrupt Muslim Billionaire that Obama has admitted to....What are people thinking of in considering him for the most important job in the United States? Why do you think that a corrupt Muslin Billionaire in interested in a Senator here in the United States?? Could it be that Obama has promised him some type of favors??? It really scares me to think that our President could have any ties to Muslims. Everyone had better research all the issues and find out how Obama plans to give all that he promises. I believe he is promising everything and anything so that he can get peoples' votes for the White House. Then CHANGE Will happen!!!

The 74-year-old Farrakhan, addressing an estimated crowd of 20,000 people at the annual Saviours' Day celebration, never outrightly endorsed Obama but spent most of the nearly two-hour speech praising the Illinois senator.
"This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," he said. "This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."
Farrakhan compared Obama to the religion's founder, Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father.
"A black man with a white mother became a savior to us," he told the crowd of mostly followers. "A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."

Why is it everytime someone speaks out against Obama they are a biggot. It seems to me that the Obama people will do anything to keep his name clean. We all know that he is no different than the others they all make there little deals under the table and if he is elected he will have to answer to the same people who put up the money for him to get where he is today. trust me he is not the savior everyone thinks he is. And what about FRANK his commie mentor. Or his white grand parents whom he refuses to be seen with in public, talk about biggots. wake up he's all talk just like the rest. Go RON PAUL.

The world does not need another empty orator as a leader of a major country. He talks change but I have yet to hear him talk about replacing the Democratic leadership in Congress who are much more part of the problem than the solution.
Dig a little and Obama has major issues. As already mentioned his long time church affiliation with an anti-semite anti-white preacher is cause for concern.
Now we find he has delusions of grandeur that lead to building mansions while professing to serve the poor (like Edwards).

There is no way this guy should even be considered as President of the United States. His candicy is ridiculous! He is just as bad as Hillary, and in many respects much worse. These are very difficult times here and abroad. To elect one of these nuts to the White House is crazy. The Dems need to back off and use their head rather than ruin this Country.
McCain is not my first choice. Any candidate that lines up with a Feingold or a Kennedy has got to be a left winger and will bring disaster. In fact I was very much opposed to him, but he is now my only choice.
Many of us have our reasons for being very unhappy with GW but he will soon be gone so quit talking about change. We all want change but change can be for the good, neither Obama nor Hillary offer any good change, or worse. We have no choice but to vote for McCain. Any Pres. is change!
We must focus on our respective members of Congress. That is how we stop who ever becomes President if they try some of their lunacy idea.

Because he has ties people and these are the ones on the surface. "A BRITISH-IRAQI BILLIONAIRE lent millions of dollars to Barack Obama's fundraiser just weeks before an imprudent land deal that has returned to haunt the presidential contender, an investigation by The Times discloses."
Wake up sheep the wolf is on the prowl and you don't even see it.

Once again, many of us will go to the polls voting AGAINST someone, rather than FOR someone. How sad is that? I, for one, have gotten sick of politicos many years ago and do not believe a word any of them says. Are there no honorable people left in this country who would take on this job? Is everyone beholden to everyone? The money that is spent with all this could certainly be used for better causes. Do we really need a President? He is totally governed by what Congress and the Senate does. And they need to have their houses cleaned because all they do is argue and spend, argue and spend. We hae a real mess on our hands.

Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate, Obama or Clinton?
The records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision.
Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. ââ¬â and another year campaigning,
has managed to author and pass into law ââ¬â 20 pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton 's bills are, more substantive.
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.
Now, I would post those of Obama, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize his contributions.
During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introducedââ¬Â¦
è 233 regarding healthcare reform
è 125 on poverty and public assistance
è 112 crime fighting bills
è 97 economic bills
è 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills
è 21 ethics reform bills
è 15 gun control
è 6 veterans affairs and many othersââ¬Â¦
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427.
These included
è **The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,
è **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law,
è **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
è **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law,
è **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.
In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.
An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public.
He's not just a talker.
He's a doer.
Pass it on....It's impressive
GLORIA, bratislava,
I'm finally seeing questions I've had regarding Obama being addressed. I've wondered where all his political support money was coming from. It's interesting,if not surprising, that he has such ties with Muslims even though he purports to be Christian.Americans should not be so naive to believe that just because he joined a Christian church some years back that he is now a Christian! Hogwash! Why do you think wealthy Muslims would be interested in Obama?Could it possibly be that he has been groomed for a day such as now? Indeed, I feel change would be top priority if he becomes president. I liken it to cutting my nose off to rid it of a pimple. We Americans are disgusted with many of our leaders, but we better use wisdom when some politician starts espousing change. That could mean many things.Teddy Roosevelt said, "Walk softly and carry a big stick." In my estimation, that is Obama's SOP, Standard Operating Procedure.Watch out! This is more than political dirt. It's a warning for America.
Sissy, Columbia,
Come on people, Politics is a game... They all have something in the closet that we do not know about, until, until they put their name in the hat. When they are elected into politics past being a mayor of some little town, it's my family will be taken care of for life and we the people will vote for another one when their time is up. Put them all in a boxing ring and the winner should be the leader until someone else knock them out....
Gametime, Ham,
How odd one poster has mentioned Whitewater, the real estate scandal Hillary was in up to her jowls. The Clintons have never been strangers to shady dealings, situational ethics and pandering to the polls.
And then there are the numerous dirty tricks Billary has unleashed to divert attention from the political feces dripping from their hands.
The way Clinton's campaign has tried to wriggle out of responsibility for the Obama photo release -- recalls Bill's "Depends on what you mean by 'sex'" -- shows a corrupt heart and bankrupt, cynical soul.
Ralph, Spokane, WA
Everyone knows that Obama bought his home from the money he earned from his books. Unfortunately, like a lot of people, when you go into arrangements dealing with money, you dont always know of the other individual's shady past, and Mr. Rezko is shady. Mr Obama has since done the right thing by backing away from him, just as Mrs. Clinton has done when her supporter's shady backgrounds came to light. Remember that supporter who was one of her biggest fundraise, but who ended up on the run? What did she do? She did exactly what Obam did, which is, she gave the money to charity and distanced herself from him. So what!!!

i don't know any successful person who had anything to do with the process who can pass the sort of scrutiny it takes to run for president. moreover, as evidenced by the current occupant of the white house, even when the candidate has done nothing at all on his/her own they often need the assistance of powerful friends and family to cover up activities (youthful or otherwise) their idle arrogance may have led to. so when obama says it was "a bonehead mistake", i think we've all been there. i, for one, appreciate his candor. compare this to several "events" in bush's past -- like expunging a drug posession record --. let a mere mortal like me or you try that and you'll see that princes are just treated differently -- and so can survive things that rank much higher than "a bonehead mistake". me? i'd be in jail.
john martin, dallas, tx
It seems now that all our candidates have skeletons in their closet that are coming out to haunt them. Clinton and the Whitewater scandal and the immoral baggage her husband brings in tow, McCain and his seeming propensity for courting certain lobbyists and now O'bama's questionable involvement with a man accused of kickbacks and corporate corruption. I guess the American political system doesn't have any truly honest candidates to offer us anymore.
O'bama's picture of him in a turban doesn't really bother me; but this does.
Clinton's past worries me about her future. I would never vote for McCain as he is just a carbon copy of what we already have in the White House.
None of their health care plans really addresses the core problem and, from what I have heard so far, no one has addressed the practical, every day fact of basic economics: you cannot continue to spend more money than you take in and the wars are costing us more than we can afford without a tax increase.
Johnie Kemp, san marcos, Texas
Where are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson when we need them? Where is the outrageous indignation that should accompany this type of finding? Besides, who got hurt? No one. Obama got a house and a little garden plot. Big deal! Compared to the Clintons, he still looks like Sister Teresa. Accept the fact, all politicians are crooks who only care about themselves and accomplishing their own agenda. The trouble America is in today was caused by Washington politicians, both Democrats and Republicans. Having Obama, with his questionable garden plot, in the White House is not going to make amy more of a difference than if Queen Hillary or General McCain is there. They are all going to steal this country blind and give what is left over to whatever minority is still left standing when all is said and done. America is lost. It is too late to save it. Washington has dug us a hole we will never be able to climb out of and now they tell us we need a "change". Too little too Late.
J. Gatsby, Bluffton, SC USA
Who's buried in the garden?
Travis, New York City,
Let me get this straight ... Obama paid $110K for 1/6 of the neighboring lot so that he could expand his yard. The whole lot was $625K when it was valued, so he paid approximately ... market price. Wow, what a criminal.
Of course, now there is a multi-million dollar loan to Obama's campaign that this article implies might have gone towards Obama's house. Read the article again ... where's the proof of the allegation? The only "proof" is that the loan was made in the first place.
President Bush's campaign received lots of money from donors ... can I allege that some of that went to his own pocket without having proof of it?

Eric. I think it is funny how many people bring up Hussein. My physician is Dr. Hussein. He is not a terrorist. Give me a break. Get out of your camo colored sunglasses and get over it. I know it seems strange, but a name is just a name. If someone denounces that they are not a muslim then they aren't. You probably did not know that. Do your research and get over it. If the Clinton Regime gets into office kiss 1/5th of your income good bye. No new taxes, but everyone will have to pay for healthcare through the nose. We have reviewed her plans through the AMA and it is truly scary. She wants to bring in physicians from other countries, pay them less, and eliminate tried and true professionals. You might end up with a Dr. Hussein.
Franklin R. Sandress, Chicago, Il
It is funny how much "dirt" we have on the Clintons that never seems to get mentioned, they just say no we did not do that or no I did not have sex with that woman and then go on like nothing happened. There is not a politician out there that does not have something in their background, never has been, never will be. we are just able to find out about it now. If you think you can find someone that doesn't good luck!!
badda, bloomington, indiana
Enough already! Yesterday we had a "Clinton Aid" floating pictures of Obama in Africian grab and now questions about his 10 x 10 increase in garden. I'm betting if we look closer the slime madamn, Hillary is behind this too. Obviously her lifetime dream of her presidency is eroding and she is deep in the muck trying anything to survive.
Yesterday I attended an Obama rally in Dayton, Ohio with 12,000 other people. Yes, it was inspirational, but it also had meat on his policy plans. Also, most remarkable was he only mentioned Sen. Clinton's name twice and President Bush once. He kept his message about him and the American people. Hillary uses her stump speeches for continuous bashing of Bush and Obama, which seems very unpresidential and low. I am a Republican and I know I will vote for Obama, but I would never vote for that witch, Hillary.

What really bothers me is here in America, none of the media stations are reporting on the negative stories about Obama! It is very frustrating to watch all these people vote for this guy when his past is VERY suspicious! I would love to see the media start talking more about Obama's skeletons and actually question him about some of the stories that are being "written" but not "televised" by the media! I am very ashamed of our media over this election!

I am a Christian and Foremost a Patriotic American. I am not Prejudiced and Believe in Legal Immigration to this Country the Way Our Fathers Came Here. I Like most American's would Like "Change?" or is it a RETURN to the Ideals our
Forefathers Set Before us. I am a Trusting Person and can be enamored of Speeches like Borrack Obama's. However I have a GUT Feeling that something is AMiss with Him. Also, I can't perceive a President with the name President Borrack Hussain Obama. Just doesnt seem right. Kind of a Combination between Sadam and Osama? Just No SUBSTANCE there. Dont Trust Him.

Obama's church was just enough for me! If his churches Reverend is anti Israel and against whites attending his church, and Obama and his family attended this church for 20yrs. than there is clearly a character issue with Obama becoming our President!!!! And yet people are ignoring his picture in this questionable dress attire? Open your eyes people Obama will bring America down!
Those who are calling for Hillary's taxes, they need to call for Obama's proof of what organizations he has donated too!!!! Come on people, everybody knows when it comes to money politicians are on the bad side!
Lisa, Wilmer, US Alabama
It is about time that a media agency finally looks in to the dealings of Obama. I guess he is not as god like as his supporters believe he is. They truly believe he is the second coming of Christ. I do not believe that Christ will come back as the president of the united states.
barbara ealy, ,
How exactly does a state senator married to someone w/ an administrative position in a public academic institution afford a 1.65 million dollar home?
Moe, moon / dark side,
If, only if, Obams wins as the Democtratic nominee, he will lose to McCain, because the skeletons in the closet are starting to come out. The free ride by the press will be over.
I wish it would have started earlier.

Can we please all take a deep breath and look at the obvious in regards to Mr. Obama. With Islamic Militants spending 24/7 planning methods to kill us, Iran on the doorstep to Nukes, Russia thumping their chests at every opportunity. Let's us please realize that just a couple years ago, the man was nothing more than a state senator in the most politically corrupt city/state in our country. I truly fear this smooth talker is fooling too many people and I am frightened for all of us, most importantly our children. Please wake up fellow Americans.
Patrick Connors, Louisville, Kentucky
I always new "Obama been lyin" Now the dirty laundry shall have to been ran through the wringer and squeezed of every last drop of hyped up news coverage. All polititions are corrupt to some degree or another. Do you actually think they run for office to help affect good change for the people of this country? Of course not! They want money and power. I think the presidency should be run by the common people not the rich! The offices of government should be filled by random selection just like jury duty! No more lobbyists! No more special interest groups, and no more middlemen saying they are voting for what the majority wants when anyone with a brain knows they are not!
Terry Lussier, hemet, california
I'm sure that both Obama & Clinton are just getting warmed up throwing the kitchen sink at each other over the next 8 months. I think it is absolutely wonderful how the Democrats continue to destroy each other and open the window wider each day for a man that deeply cares about this country and doesn't show favortism! Keep up the good work Barack & Hillary because the Democratic Party needs you to help destroy them totally!
Lucian Casalege, Hickory, NC
The true colorful rhetoric of our American people comes out in these petty blogs. Some attack Obama's Christian church because it supports its roots as Africans (which no one has ever told me not to cook too much Italian because it would be unamerican) and they just simply sound closed minded and biggoted. Others like to say that this unsourced article on a small land acquisition is a definite sign of Obama's character. The problem is, no one ever takes the time to discuss how we have seen the same lobbyist and agenda driven politics for 24 plus years now. How we have seen our economy and our people get stuck in a bloody back and forth battle between the Clintons and Bush's. The only thing that has changed in this election is Obama. His so called "Lack of Experience" also comes with a lack of hidden agendas and lobbyist promises. Whether each of you are ready or not, We need a FRESH FACE, a FRESH VOICE in America.
I welcome Change, I welcome a fresh chance!

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Mr. Obama has a lot of dirty secrets that will come out if he wins the nomination, the Republicans have information ready to release. I have never been a supporter of Obama because I knew there was something that was not right about him.

When Obama says he wants change...does he mean like coin, money, cash?
He's as dirty as the rest...just more convincing.
Airman_x, Peyton, Colorado
Obama is a fake...the media need to drill him on these types of issues...how do you not "recall" if you met someone? You either know or don't know...he has been given too many free passes...he needs to be questioned...and just like the deabtes, he will stumble through words - huge difference from his written speeches where he speaks well...but again, it is prepared versus off the cuff...and what was up withthe debate last week when they asked the majority of the questions to Clinton first?...and Obama agreed with most of it...and then he stumbled when he had to answer first.
Go Nader!

Sorry, if you feel you were let down for the comment that Mrs. Obama made about this being the first time she's proud of her country. Maybe it is the first time and she is entitled to her own opinion right................. And another thing she is not the candidate her husband is and she has the right to say what ever her heart feels. Were you also disappointed when Bill Clinton was having sex in the WHITE HOUSE.............

IF for a moment you believe that none of our Presidential candidates will have information such as this released sooner or later, then you are foolish. There is not a man (or woman for that matter) alive who would not take financing if offered. In reality, if we further look at the scope of things, I would rather hear of these things earlier in the campaign versus later. It is a matter of who comes out slinging mud before the other. The Clinton Campaign is apparently in a state of panic and therefore, the slinging begins there. That is not to say that Senator Clinton has note made mistakes of her own during her tenure, it is just to say that we have not heard about it yet. As an Independent, I am following both the Republican and the Democratic race closely and I have to say, for a seasoned representative such as Hillary Rodham Clinton, I am surprised that her campaign has opted to take this route. I would be more inclined now than ever to support Obama at this point.

Hmm.. because he's an anti-american socialist? And hillary isn't much better.
After GWB I didn't think a replublican would get re-elected this term, but McCain is superior in every way to those clowns on the left.
What we really need is to have a zero-party government where people run based on their beliefs and actions, not on what party they belong to. Campaigns should be financed from a strict government-supplied budget so we don't have sketchy situations like this one.
I'm sick of these politicians saying they want to help the poor when they sit in their (usually multiple) mansions that are probably paid for by special interest groups.

Joe from Marina, CA. The press has been digging dirt on the Clintons for years..Where have you been ! The press has only scratched the surface with Obama and if he gets the nomination, it will be a bloodbath. I just imagine what will be dug up. He is more of the same. No different, no experience and no qualifications for president.
Kathy, Stamford,
Barack and his wife or both well off. Have you heard of credit and financing. I am sure this is just another slur from a desperate candidate.

The parallel between Obama and Blair becomes more precise every day. Both are handsome and presentable, good with the media, and devoid of any credible policies. Both are just a bit too slick. I wouldn't lend either of them a tenner.
Frank Upton, Solihull,
Recognize the corruption in American politicians! Why don't we have Senate hearings to review the financials of these Senators. How the heck can a life-long public servant afford a $1.65 million dollar mansion? Let alone a $0.625M extra garden purchased by his middle eastern friend Rezko. B.Obama should be in court on corruption charges, not running for president.
Looking ForJustice, NEW YORK, NY

The Clinton campaign is in a panic to create and blow up anything that can be spun into smut. They were conning folks before Obama was born.
Joe, Dallas, Texas
Are we seriously worried about a small strip of land the man used to increase the size of his garden? This is is just silly mud slinging.
Christopher, Chicago, USA
So much fuss over a 10 x 10 piece of land. I'm sorry you want to smear Senator Obama so badly. There was no wrongdoing here.
Lisa, Chicago,
Madam Clinton will create more problems for america if she is elected president of USA. Since she started her campagne she has succeded in creating a divisions within US. with her uterances and that of her supporters People now see Moslems as Bad people(or is there anything being a moslem?). African Americans, Whites and latinos are now been cunfused and used as a campagning materials, they also see themselves as enemies That woman should not be allowed to step into the white house or Americans will have themselves to blame.
Chris Agumadu, Lagos, Nigeria
Obama gets in, the economy goes to hell, more wars, higher taxes, more freedoms lost, stronger racial laws, more restrictive gun laws, higher unemployment, muslems get better protection, uprisings in the streets.

say what you want about obama, but i have read his churches website and if i had a church page like that i would be labeled a racist. his church is really not christian even though they say they are, they promote africa not america,so we going to make america the next africa?
think clinton is rotten, obama is a wolf in sheeps clothing and mcain is to old and a man who has served this country in more ways then either of those two.
terry, mineral wells, texas
More ridiculous mudslinging. I agree with Lala from NC - if candidates spent more time focusing on cleaning up America than they do throwing mud pies at one another, the state of politics in this country might be less worth laughing at and more worth getting involved in. Why do politicians think the younger voters just don't bother on election day? Maybe because we're tired of all the petty squabbles and high school drama that detract from the real issues. Honestly, American politics these days is more like watching an episode of The O.C. than a serious bid for political position.
Kiki, Las Cruces,
Oh, God! Shouldn't somebody leave the man alone? Women in politics especially Hillary, is most wondeful, but, holy moses, Hillary is proving herself too desperate to become the President of America and this is not good; if it turns out that she becomes the first woman President of America, good and fine, and if it has to be another woman in future so be it, the desperation should be checked instead of trying to run a fellow democrat down...

All i have to say is be wary, for when he made that statement " OUR TIME HAS COME " after one of his primary victories,it said it all,and shortly afterwards the statement by his wife in which she stated " FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HER LIFE " she was proud of america was the end for me in considering them for such a role as PRESIDENT and FIRST LADY of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Paul Arbitelle, Naugatuck, CT.
I am so sick of the he said she said crap. it is dirty politics. why are we even wasting time on unnecessary crap. if we put as much effort into fixing the problems we face in America as we do finding dirt on our opponents this place would be so much better.
All the money spent on campaigns and elections would have a much more useful purpose if it were used to solve problems in America. one less homeless person, one less starved child, a better education for more kids. the list goes on and on.
Obama is my choice because he isnt focused on dirt. He is focused on showing us why he is best choice. every week hillary has a new reason why Obama is wrong, he is muslim, has no experience, he lies, etc etc SO DOES SHE! She may have experience but what has she done really, bush has tons of experience, his own father was president, but he still managed to screw the US up while he was in office, so pardon me but the experience crap doesnt fly. And dont get me started on grandpa mccain. GO BO!
LALA, charlotte, NC
Seems Mr. Obama is the cleanest politician around. For heavens sake look at the other two major contenders!
For us in Europe (who have no vote yet must live under what you Americans decide as we have had to for nigh 8 years of disaster) the key is of course foreign poilicy.
Obama has set his out in some detail in 'Foreign Affairs' for July/August 2007. Please read - very few appear to have done so! For those with little time he sums it up in stating:
America cannot meet the threats of this century alone, and the world cannot meet them without America. We can neither retreat from the world nor try to bully it into submission'.
Here is the one candidate who is determined try to open the new era of cooperation which became possible when 40 years of international paralysis ended with the Cold War.
Mme Clinton and McCain are both part of the old era of confrontation that landed us in Iraq and its doleful consequences worldwide.
dipconsult, Aquitaine, France
It's not BO's land deals that should worry us. It is his socialistic beliefs. He believes in redistribution of wealth, has anti capitalistic asperations, and wants extreme socialistic reform paid for by raising taxes. It doesn't matter if he is Muslim or not, his ties to questionable Islamic groups are suspicious at best. His wife says he thinks the Middle East problems can be solved simply by "dialogue and education." Though most of USA wants a peaceful resolution to the M.E. crisis, one is either naive, refuses to see the obvious, or has anti-American plans for the Middle East who believes this. Either one should concern us. These issues have nothing to do with race. If these ideas were coming from any race or political party, we should be concerned.
We are racist if we judge a person on his race (good or bad) rather than what he is and what he believes. The American media is proving they are racist by treating BO as different rather than judging him as any other man.

can sombody tell me why mrs REZKO buys a garden for 650000 dollars ?????????????
EZRA, TEL AVIV,
Where were all of you over the past 100+ yrs? Anyone actually study the history of America - as well as other countries ... politics? If we are looking for a PERFECT human being to be President ... one does not exist.
Obama MAY have made a decision he now regrets. Maybe he didn't have all the facts ... I have no idea.
But it's hard to see any clear cut illegal action here. Seems like an indirect association that just "looks bad."
How many other politicians ... or anyone for that matter ... have done the same or .... the majority, including Mr. & Mrs. Clinton ... actually much WORSE?
I recall people assocaited with White Water ... the little Clinton issue ... who turned up mysteriously dead. Hhmmm.
The attacks on Obama are all ridiculous & each I have heard of has been very easily explained.
Look at ALL our past Presidents if you want to see just HOW MUCH the issue of experience has to do with quality of leadership & the way history will judge the success of a Presidency.

Rezkos... McDougals.
I wonder if we'd uncover records years after subpoena in the White House showing fraudulent behavior as an attorney should Obama be in office? How many people lost everything as a result of that land deal again?
What Board of Directors on which did Obama serve as product manufactured in sweatshops overseas were being labelled "Made in the USA"? Oh wait... he didn't.
I wonder if Obama would serve jail time for the common crime of pejury? You know... lying under oath in court proceedings while President.
I'm sure the Emir of Dubai understands that favors granted to a friend stops at the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave... right?
All I'm saying Clinton supporters... that's a huge house made of glass to be throwing stones around the neighborhood.
Maybe we'll never see true integrity in the White House again. Obama does have a deficit in experience... he's not been as corrupt for as many years as his opponent.
M Leckey, Indianapolis, USA/IN
Obama is not fit to be President. He is a novice and runs a Cult-like campaign, making promises that he can not fulfil. His words all all just slogans and have no substance. We do not need another Dubya Bush, and can not afford to train another Commander In Chief. His Foreign Policy and knowledge is absent. He has a geat deal of promise in years ahead if he cleans up his act, and keeps his wife quiet.
Lavonia Russell, Porterville, Ca. USA
OK, so basically the story tells me Rezko is allegedly shady character and that he knows Obama, which somehow leads to the illogical conclusion that Obama is responsible for all of Rezko's actions as if Obama was his father. The closest you get to ANY substance here is that Obama MAY have gotten a $300k discount on a $2M home, but even that seems absurd.
Anyhow, the real question is, where do I sign up to get paid for writing baseless articles accusing someone of something that someone else they were once acquainted with may have done?
Pepe, Washington, DC
Obama's mother is an atheist not a christian. Atheists believe there is no god.

I am so glad that Obama's background is being looked into,
Our media is so scared of sounding raceist , that they would rather support him than receive any backlash from the black
public. We have been so trained not to say anything raceist that we are scared to look for the truth. We spend most of our time being apologetic for anything that might sound offensive to anyone that is not white. They are allowed to say any offensive untrue remark about Hillary Clinton and it is o.k., but if we say anything about Obama their world falls apart and we are idiot's. How long are intelligent people going to let this go on?
shirley, the dalles, oregon
It's about time some one has the nerve to bring out the truth about Obama. He is not as innocent as he tries to portray himself, and the sooner the people of the Us find out about his role in this dishonest transaction and the shady characters he associates with, the sooner the American people will know NOT to vote for him.He speaks out of both sides of his mouth at once and will say or do anything to get elected. God save America from him winning,
C.J. Starr, Oak Brook, IL USA
Dang...
If he is the democratic candidate, I will be one democrat who will once again be forced to vote republican....
At best we don't have enough information on BO at worst he has zero experience in foreign policy and economics. We need someone with experience not charisma. (remember the Carter disaster?)
There will simply be no choice.
Nikki, , NC
We still get to vote in ohio. Maybe an american paper can tell us more about this shady character. America has empathy for black people. Whites dont know when they lie and give them the benefit of the doubt cause they think they owe them something. Huckabee is the only way america can change, but we arent ready for someone with beliefs and has the guts to back them up. Hail to black power America Oprah and jesse jackson and al sharpton will finally make it to the white house
Michael, hubbard, ohio
Your story was most interesting however, there was one glaring omission that the property owners stated in the US press that they sold the property to Obama at market value that he did not get a price break.
Senator Clinton has been trying to say that and it has not been helful at all to her campaign as there was nothing to this land deal.
We have dropped it here in the US why don't you drop this rhetoric across the pond!
linda, des moines, United States/Iowa
Good for you. It is wonderful to know there is still real journalism in this country. People depend on the news for information and it seems this has gone to their heads or pocketbooks. Cant really tell which. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for dong the real job and a good job.
Carol, Kansas City, MO
Obama is a talented salesman on politics and, meanwhile, a clever buyer for his own financial gaining. There might be more questions about the land deal, but who cares. Politician is politican even though some of them sell CHANGE. I don't buy it at all.
Jay, Buffalo, NY
with a Muslim father he is a muslim and what he says about being a christian is what any muslim would say. The muslims believe Jesus is the messiah and the saviour and believe the Bible is a holy book. Let him say publicly that God the Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit are the one true God and then I will believe him. So far he has only done what any muslim would do. Note that these backers are muslim and that Louis Farquhar of the million men march, the muslim leader is a strong supporter of his. I have nothing against muslims but when it seems one tries to hide the fact that they are it needs investigating.
doone , new orleans, La
The US press will never be too critical of Obama because they live under the tyranny of political correctness. This to me is just another form of racism. He should be judged on the same terms as the white candidates.
laura, Winchester,
Clinton is so phoney I don't know how she possibly faces herself. In fact I think she stole that last line in last debate from our beloved john edwards before he departed the race.
cynthia, Kailua Kona, usa/HI
If Obama was a white female he'd be laughed off the national stage due to the scant record of achievement. While I believe in affirmative action, I don't think the White House is the place to hand the levers of power to the least qualified just because he is black and glib..
afgail, Novato, USA/ CA
Who the hell cares. This stuff reminds me of a soap oprah. Do you think the Clintons are clean? Get real here. This is all the dirty stuff that means little. The real thing here is what is most important and that is the changes that need to take place to try to clean up the way this country has gotten politically. Look at the Bush team. How clean do you think they are? That will be the big story some day. Obama is the best choice for this country. Who cares how many times he went to the bathroom last night. Get it?
Bullseye, Aptos Santa Cruz , USA Calif.
I know I'm not the only one who thinks Obama Supporters are cult like. They scare me. If you say anything against their messiah the vitriol is spewed every which way.
I used to think this type of behavior only applied to the conservatives. Especially if you offered a dissenting opinion regarding the war.
What I have learned is the far right and the far left are no different except for their ideologies. Express a differing opinion and you will be threatened (as Tavis Smiley's family) and ridiculed. Scary!!!!
Beverly Leslie, Los Angeles, California
John McCain is not a strong contender for the White House. The aging war hero comes with his own baggage. One that is just as heavy as the Clintons and far heavier than any attached to Obama. Of the three, polls show Obama as the most electable candidate. If this is so I fail to understand some of the comments made about his experience, religion and culture. The man is an American and a christian as far as we know so cut him some slack on these issues. For those intent on mud slinging always remember when you are throwing the mud some of it will stick on you.
SHH, Laurel, Maryland
It is so tiring to hear some people still questioning the religious background of Obama. What is so hard to understand..the man is is Christian! Why is it that he need to take the religion of his fathers people..by the way his father wasn't a Muslim. People can't seem ti research info for themselves...too lazy..would rather listen to lies. I am not a Obama supporter, but after seeing the photo on Obama that was published today I know I will vote for him this week. HIllary just lost me as a supporter, Dirty politics!!!!

As an Illinois journalist I have followed this story carefully. There is no there there. This article is a bone-headed attempt to stir something that Obama has already admitted to (he admits that he should not have purchased a few feet of property from Mrs. Rezko). As a thinking human being, I find it more than suspicious that this story appears on your website the day that Hillary Clinton is making her last stand for the nomination. Is there any there there?
Susan Jacobson, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Is that the best you can do? Obama bought land from a crook? Obama shook hands with a crook? I'm sorry but, everyone in the world has bought something from or shook the hands of a slimebag at some point in their lives.
This is actually old news and he's already atoned for it. There's gotta be better stuff than that. Barack is Teflon. Something as weak as this is not gonna stick to him.
Doug, Honolulu, USA
Ditto to everything said already! When I lived in London I was always impressed by the world outlook of UK journalism unlike the biased "edutainment" that passes as broadcast journalism in the States these days. As a democrat and Hillary supporter, I am depressed by the imbalanced coverage here. The subtle double-standards Hillary must weave through in this election are similar to what all high level executive women face at work in many ways, but no one has written much about it to show how remarkable her achievements really are. Would a woman with Obama's limited resume have gotten this far? Very doubtful. Obama is not a bad person, and if he is the Democratic choice I will vote for him. However, I can't help but think he won a lottery of perfect timing after the dismal GWB years left the nation so cynical that the masses are more hungry for positive optimism *regarding* change than they are for enough substantial experience to actually *effect* change.
Laura, Chicago, USA
Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate, Obama or Clinton?
The records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision.
Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. â and another year campaigning,
has managed to author and pass into law â 20 pieces of legislation in her first six years.
He introducedâ¦
¨ 233 regarding healthcare reform
¨ 125 on poverty and public assistance
¨ 112 crime fighting bills
¨ 97 economic bills
¨ 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills
¨ 21 ethics reform bills
¨ 15 gun control
¨ 6 veterans affairs and many othersâ¦
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427.
These included
¨ **The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,
¨ **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law,
¨ **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
¨ **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law,
¨ **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.

Somebody has an axe to grind here. How could Rezko's wife afford to buy a pricey a plot when Rezko swore he was broke? Simple. Rezko lied. People like him lie all the time.
All Obama did was to pick Rezko's brain as a real estate developer. Rezko's expertise in the field was not diminished because he was under investigation! If anything the incident shows that Obama has respect for expertise.

However you slice it, it shows a great lack of judgment and a great willingness to take advantage of his office for financial gain. There's a lot more about BO that's going to come out over the next few months. It's just too bad that it will come out so late, probably after he has already secured the nomination. The unthinkable could happen, the Dems could lose the election again.
I just hope he's half of what his supporters think he is. But my research says otherwise.

If I were American I would be defined idealogically as a Democrat but would probably vote for McCain over Hilary or Obama - they are both despicable.
Hilary is fickle as you like to suit the day & Obama is just astoundingly slow.

Mr Obama said he had never used his office to do favors for Mr Rezko. What does he call the letter he had written to housing officials urging them to provide money in support of a proposed apartment building? I hope someone get a copy of that letter and release it. I won't be surprised if the american media come to his rescue by saying that he wrote that letter because he cares so much for old people and the defenseless.

Wow I can't believe the American election is becoming joke.
Mr Obama how about acknowledging his white mother for goodness sake instead of using Muslim.
How many American citizen are also have background of some other. He was raised most of his life in the US. I am not American but love the country.
Hilary Clinton, talking about experience. She is good in her politics, but how come things weren't that good during her time. Shes been around for awhile in the whitehouse, how come new presidents are trying to fix the mess of privious presidents. New Presidents should be adding value the past operation, however, most time using the 4 yr term fixing problems of the past.
I am not anti Obam nor Clinton but this digging out dirt doesn't help to put peoples faith and trust in any of them. Please leave the Muslim and background of contenders. Is there one person in this life that does not have dirts nor skeleton in their past. No wonder we have issues in our governments.
Faranisis, Auckland, New Zealand
I guess none of you have bothered to read Obama's books. Both of which have been best sellers in the US and earned him the money to buy his house and other things. It's great fun to bash politicians, but at least do a little research and get accurate information. Literate, thoughtful politicians are hard to come by.
Look at his voting record and his accomplishments.
helen, Pasadena, Ca., USA
Not sure of how this issue relates to Obama. This is junk journalism and not expect this from "The Times". It is like everyone is trying to dig dirt on the guy. Please note that I am not an Obama Supporter but an Independent.

Amazing, that our,American, newspapers are co much cautios in their interaction with readers. I can't post my opinion on,say, the New York Times website unless specifically, and very seldom, pemitted to do it. I'd say a pretty restrictive reading of the First Amendment. As to Sen. and Mrs.Obama our media are so in love with them so in order to find any mention of the Obamas, free of mudslinging at the Clintons and Sen. McCain
that is, one has to turn to The Times. Thank Gawd for the free, from Obamania, England.
Felix, MOUNTAIN VIEW, USA/CA
Mr. Obama has proven that he is no different from any other politician. He is indebted to the big money that is supporting his campain, his lack of experience will ensure his defeat if he wins the nomination, while its too early to start a Democrat for McCain group it will come. if the Democrats want to loose the White House then vote for Obama, he may win the nomination but the American people will see him for what he is an inexperienced politician who will need on the job training.
Ambrose Harripersad, RICHMOND HILL, Canada
Are you kidding me? All of this over some money that was spent on a garden?
Clinton is a fraud. She will do anything to get elected- I wouldn't even be suprised if she hired someone- anyone- to get some dirty information on Obama. She's just frustrated because he's a more wholesome person than she is.
Oh, and if Clinton actually thinks she'll win against the Republicans- she's got a reality check coming. Republicans HATE her. They will vote for anyone as long as it isn't her.
She's always saying "We have to fight the republicans!" Well, I'm sorry, but aren't the republicans people too? Aren't we in this country together? Why do we have to fight each other? Obama is actually attracting republicans to the democratic side just to vote for him, but if Clinton wins, all of those republicans that supported Obama are just going to support McCain.
So, Clinton, if you think this will work- then do it. Show the photograph of Obama in a turban. Send out mass emails that say he's

Oh look...more slanderous nonsense.
"Headache?""Questions?"
Not on this side of the pond. This story has been well investigated and well reported, and all the sly insinuations written here have proven to be just that, and obvious bias, if not shoddy reporting.
The only question is what kind of bias.
James Andre, miami,
This article is proof of how bias the media is in the United States. The media has chosen Mr. Obama as their candidate so we rarely see the candidates in their true light especially Mr. Obama. The bottom line is that Mr. Obama is not a squeaky clean candidate but beyond is pseudo-media spun image he does not have enough experience to run the country. When his aides are asked about his experience with international affairs they've brought up courses he took in college. I am sorry but if a candidate has to have his people defend his experience by using college courses he is just not ready to run the country. This is not to say he won't be ready in the next 4-8 years but I feel that what our country needs is a strong leader with solid credentials (along with non-biased media outlets).
Tricia N, Norman, OK
What you need to do is look at the facts. Obama claims no funds from lobbyists - what about the drug companies he is receiving funding from? He talks about 'so called universal healthcare" - but what he is saying is heathcare for those that can afford it. He claims to be the champion of the working calss - but votes in favour of freezing the minimum wage.
You ask who the real Obama is.......A closet Republican!
Bernadette, Mission Viejo,
i need to know more of sen. barack obama before i decide to vote for him... pls have media clarify issues why sen. obama is linked to these alledgedly corrupt people. is he rich enough to afford a $1.65 million mansion??? did he pay in cash? mortgaged? just curios...

Being from Illinois, I heard his speches and promises years ago when he ran for the very Senate seat he holds now. I can tell you what he said then is identical to today. Absolutely nothing; no substance, no direction, just change, change, change. Thank you 'Times' for reporting like the US media should be repoting this. I've been so fed up with the way that the media treats him like a "rock star" or an American Idol favorite. Nice to see that Rezko's trial starts Monday March 3rd. The day before the Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont primaries. The prosecution will have him listed on thier witness list and that will be made public.
Mike, DeSoto, IL, USA
Mr Obama is the most cleanest and scandal free of all the presidential contenders, Granted. Clinton is finding it difficult attacking him because there is nothing to attack him for. All these land deals, African dress, muslim root are no-shows. So those hovering around to attack, actually find themselves frustrated because the public is not interested as they rightly perceived them as political.
In contrast, Americans are tired of someone who wants to rule them but refused to file or disclose her tax returns. Hillary Clinton did not. Bill Clinton did not disclose the source of financing for his presidential Library. Her so called '35 years experience' did not teach her that not filing or disclosing your returns will not go well with the public and worse still when she said that she will disclose her tax return after she got elected. Stupid Thinking. Isn't it.
Is she not a power hunger. After loosing 11 straight contests, one would think that she should quit. Not her. Disgrace!
Bob, Hamilton,
Illinois politicians, especially Chicago-owned, require sanitization. Vague, eloquent language (charisma of the 90s) leaves questions, loose ends, shady corners. What sort of foreign policy is proposed? Who will cabinet and staffers be (Oprah for Secretary of State???)? This is a dynamic land of freedom for all, brave military, abundance for all who set a goal and work toward it, and volumes more. Do we proceed in "soap opera" fashion re Obama's mansion on the hilltop (White House)?? FACTS, FACTS, FACTS deserve consideration, not a passive approach!! Obtain well-founded answers, please.

Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama are any more qualified to be president than I am.
Being a first term senator from Illinois is NOT a qualification, nor is living in the White House for 8 years.
Where is the money coming from????
I think if EITHER somehow wins the presidency, we are in serious trouble!
I hope we don't get the chance to find out!

This is not even a story in the US, guess the news in the UK is boring today.
When Hillary makes a mistake she blames the press, when (Nova)McCain makes a mistake he says he was doing his job, when Obama makes a mistake he admits it and addresses it- thats what is so refreshing, a politician that addresses the issues. forget what we spend on elections, if countries around the world would pay their own way for military defense, etc(Japan,Australia, UK, Insert country here) instead of the US we would have health care!
Jeff, Nashville, TN USA
Mentioning the notion that Obama is a muslim is not only false, but also a dirty attempto to inject racism and religion into the politics of this great country. It is sad to see the racistic traits in people's claim against Obama although they deny that motivation.
Luke, Boston, Massachusetts
This is the time when we must take a close look at each canidate. Though its hard to do w/ the media starting to play a role w/ finding ways to drop any findable dirt on each canidate.
Its really sad that we can' just look at the facts or at what they want to try and do. I REALLY hate dirty politics and its starting to happen. Also I want to point out the Muslim rumors about Mr. Obama are only that...rumors! I truly think that he is a good man & has the best interests of this great country at heart.
Even Mrs. Clinton I think has the best interests of this country at heart but she is down & is starting to play dirty & I really think that these kind of tactics are beneath her. If anyone in her camp read this & pass it along...Mrs.Clinton you are much better than the way your starting to act...I am still thinking about voting for you but I lean closer & closer to Mr. Obama eveytime I see you! make me see your point of view w/o turning to trying to paint Mr. Obama as something he is not.

Why is CNN, YAHOO and other news pundits not reporting this. Media bias has done more harm in this election. Tell it to Jack Cafferty and Lou Dobbs.
Al Barney, Raleigh, USA
How funny is this? Currently we have troops fighting and dying in a neverending unnecessary war (yes I say UNNECESSARY, I am a Army vet and earned the right to say so), we have a President fighting to violate our constitutional rights by illegally invading our privacy, the economy is steadily declining, unemployment and gas prices are on the rise, health care coverage sucks, and the education our children are receiving is substandard. After all that crap, why would I give a care about a land deal? Another "slight of hand", another distraction from the major issues; from what I can tell from the replies, people are falling for this hook, line, and sinker. WAKE UP!! Thank you so much James Bone and Dominic Kennedy for continuing to lead the American public like sheep to slaughter. I sincerely and graciously thank you.......... NOT!!

This story was in the Chicago Tribune months ago. There must have been something that Mr. Obama did in 6th grade that is more newsworthy.
J R Boll, MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin U.S.A.
Are you'll serious?, Just because the media has so far failed to produce anything negative besides this non-sense doesn't mean that they are somehow being nice to Obama. "The real Obama!" What exactly is your definition of real? Does it just sound to good to be true? Not all politicians are somehow up to thier armpits in scandals you know, and Barack Obama just happens to be one of them. He is human and he has AND will make mistakes, but his attitiude, purpose, and vision are solid.
Now ask yourself, "What is the real reason I don't like Obama?"...If it's not the fact that you just love Hillary and can't stand to see her lose, or maybe it's something deep down inside that needs to be addressed...you think?
Quincy, Jackson, MS

Mrs. Clinton is the women for the job. She has my vote, Obama is a johnny come lately-with a gift for gab. I am an African-American women who will not vote for Obama.
Elizabeth Palmer, Troy, New York,
I'm so sick about people saying that Barak Obama's wife is Un-patriotic!! That's so stupid. As a White-American, I am utterly appalled? If you are seen as a Second Class Citizen, your men are projected to end up in Jail or dead before college, many acts were made to destroy your people's rehabilitation in a world that did not welcome you with open arms, and other acts I cannot even began to name; then YES, I too would have reservations on Pride for America!!! Although she has been well educated in America, can she say the same opportunity was given to her mother. History plays an important role in the lives of people today, for ALL people, and America's history towards blacks or African-American is not peachy, nor can acts be reconciled in the matter of 40 years after the Civil Rights movement. SO YES, I DO UNDERSTAND WHEN SHE SAYS SHE IS REALLY PROUD OF AMERICA because honestly it is a sign of true change.
Margaret Kinley, New York, USA
I agree with the rest on this page! We need someone who can get us where we need to be, and that someone is Hilary Clinton.
Tammy, Joplin, USA/Missouri
I read this story twice, I have a PhD from a top-ten university in America and I cannot understand what is going on with Obama's financial controversy! His friend's wife brought land next to his home so he could get a better price then sold it to him seven months later at a reduced price? The source of the money from which the land was brought is murky? And now that friend is going to trial or under investigation for corruption? So, Obama may have taken a favor from his friend and done a favor in return by suggestion an apartment deal by his friend, for the elderly be approved? If that covers it, am I missing why anyone, Clinton or Obama supporters are upset that he got a better deal on his house buy getting better housing for the elderly? Okay, maybe more to this story that the US media could explain better? I am glad I don't have to vote in this election, though it's historical, it seems to keep getting more bizarre.
Katrina, London, England,
I think that this article was well-written compared to some of the articles in the United States. It was not bias toward any candidate, which is a nice change. Just because everyone thinks they know of Hillary Clinton doesn't make her the best choice. I wish that people in the US could, for once, find out what the candidates are actually about and choose who they want to vote for that way. People not doing that is one of the reasons the country is so off base now. No one paid the last election enough attention and look what happened. I think the US is in dire need of change and motivation and I do think that Barack Obama will be the one to give it to us.
Jennifer Friedeck, Fenton, USA Missouri
I can assure you none of us would qualify to be President, because of all the poor choices and mistakes we've made in the past. I guarantee if you'd stop for a moment, you'd probably be able to think of two things that you wouldn't won't anyone to know about within a span of 10 seconds! Let's not get caught up in hate rhetoric. And also keep this in mind, at birth we have very little say as when it come to choosing our names.
ann1, Ft. Polk, U.S.
People need to grow up and not make this about race, religion or money. This is about his ability to run the country. And it looks like the majority of the people think that he can.

So many people speak of racisim -- but I must confess I'm concerned that so many people are ready to support Obama "just because" he is black. Isn't this racisim???? It would be like supporting Hillary simply "because she is a woman". Neither of these are good reasons to support anyone!!! I feel that there are alot of blacks who support him simply because he is black and they feel blacks have been given the short end of the stick. Women feel the same way - they still experience discrimination on a daily basis. Please, whatever you do, do not support either of these candicates because of the color of their skin or their sex. Support them on the issues and experience they bring to the table. We definitely do not need another GWB in the white house. American can't take another one like him and survive!!!

When Obama does something wrong, it is just a mistake and buried in the back pages of news. When Clinton does the 'mistake' it is corruption and published on the front page. I read something about a nuclear waste business giving money to Obama's bid for the senate and now the presidency ......not in the front pages and only once was it mentioned never to be heard again. What is that business Excelon or Exelon or something?

Thank you for reporting facts . Many of us are sick of the US media running after the Obamas while bashing Clinton and Mccain . Sick sick , so sad the real facts are hardly aired.

When our own newspapers and network news organizations are avoiding coverage of this sort, it is reassuring that the rest of the world still believes in truth in journalism. Your dedication to getting the facts out to the public is admirable and greatly appreciated by those of us here in the US who have not fallen under the spell of a glib speaker with a murky background. I am ashamed that our political process has been reduced to such mud-slinging, but I am grateful that fair journalism is still alive and well in England to give a balanced view of US politics. Thank you from a Clinton supporter who's tired of media bias.

This only scratches the surface of how much we do NOT know about Barak Obama. It's high time he received more investigation before the nomination. This one-term senator with no experience in national security and foreign policy, whose ducking of issues by voting "present" in Illinois and simply not showing up for votes in the US Senate is not qualified to be president. We've gone through this "charismatic candidate" debacle once and have suffered for the past seven years because of it. Why are we preparing to repeat this catastrophic blunder?.
