Well said, Paul. As far as I am concerned, Jardine was a tactical genius.
I am all for leg theory being put into practice in the modern game. With ample protection designed to reduce the chance of fatal injuries, batsman can truly put their skills to test. It's time cricket restore the balance between bat and ball, instead of favouring the former.

Jardine's big mistake was to be 40 years ahead of his time and contrary to the amateur ethos of the 1930s. If he had used those tactics in the 1970s against the Australians or West Indians he would have been a national hero. Remember the treatment meted out by the West Indian and Australian fast bowlers at that time, and without punishment of those involved?
