Brad Hogg charged by ICC over remark
Brad Hogg, the Australia spinner, has been charged with making an offensive remark to Anil Kumble, the India captain, and vice-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the second Test in Sydney.
Hogg faces a ban of between two and four Test matches after being charged with the level three offence under the International Cricket Council's Code of conduct which refers to abuse on the basis of a player's "race, religion, gender, colour, descent, or national or ethic origin".
He has been summoned to appear before Mike Proctor, the match referee, at an ICC hearing which is set for January 14 in Perth, two days prior to the third Test.
The action follows the three-Test ban handed to Harbhajan Singh after Proctor found the spinner had racially abused Australia batsman Andrew Symonds in the same game.
The reason the row has got out of hand is not because of racism. It is because too soft a line has been taken on the practice of sledging for far too long
