Scottish Saltires wasted a good start created by Navdeep Poonia’s commanding innings, with the last seven wickets falling for 39 runs. Their bowlers made Derbyshire Phantoms work hard but two breaks for rain reduced Derbyshire’s target to 136 from 34 overs.

A surprising amount of bounce in the pitch tempted Derbyshire’s bowlers to drop short and concede extras as the ball flew over wicket-keeper Jamie Pipe, who was suffering from a bruised hand. Encouraged by this, Poonia hit 50 off 50 balls to help Scotland to what should been a substantial total. However, Fraser Watts soon edged Charl Langeveldt, to give Pipe the first of his four catches.

Langeveldt found an edge with his second ball back, and Poonia presented a diving catch to Pipe. Four wickets fell in 15 balls, with the first interruption for rain managing to check the headlong descent.
