The prospect of a late Lancashire fightback was briefly raised early this morning when Sajid Mahmood took two wickets in the first over. Nottinghamshire were 36 for three, still needing another 109 for victory on an unpredictable pitch.

But that was Lancashire’s last success as, in a bowling attack already depleted by injury, Dominic Cork was unable to take the field today due to a back spasm, leaving Mahmood as the sole frontline seamer.

Adam Voges and Mark Wagh made the most of every scoring opportunity, sharing the highest partnership of the match, an unbroken 111 for the fourth wicket. Voges hit the winning runs at 12.22pm, giving Nottinghamshire the victory that extends their lead at the top of the table.
