Sussex were on the point of recording their second win of the season when bad light came to Hampshire's rescue. The visiting side, who followed on 169 adrift, lost 12 wickets yesterday after a second-innings collapse.
Although Michael Carberry went quickly, Hampshire were making a fight of it when Michael Brown and John Crawley were together. But from 58 for one, they slumped to 84 for six in eight overs. Well though Robin Martin-Jenkins bowled in a fine spell that brought him two wickets, it was Ollie Rayner's off spin that undermined Hampshire.
Michael Lumb and Crawley were deceived by Rayner's arm ball. Sean Ervine was caught at backward point and Rayner claimed a fourth wicket in an innings for the first time when Greg Lamb top-edged a sweep.
