TRENT BRIDGE
(day two of four)
Nottinghamshire 46-2 (BM Shafayat 16 not out, MA Wagh 1 not out, 20 overs), Somerset 252
Tea
Somerset secured two potentially vital batting points with a spirited fightback led by Peter Trego's highest score of the season on a chilly, showery morning. Trego, enjoying plenty to cut and pull, hit 86 from 108 balls and added 90 for the ninth wicket in 19 overs with Andrew Caddick.
Nottinghamshire bowled too short too often after Charlie Shreck accounted for Alfonso Thomas in the first quarter hour. Chris Read eventually turned to the spin of Graeme Swann, replacing Alex Hales after being released from England duty, and Trego fell unselfishly to a running catch by Mark Wagh at deep midwicket.
Close
Charl Willoughby struck twice in four balls with his left-arm swing when play finally resumed at 5pm and Bilal Shafayat suffered a couple of uneasy moments before seeing it through to close with the game nicely balanced. Unfortunately the forecast is for more disruption tomorrow.
Craig Kieswetter held Will Jefferson in front of first slip and Nottinghamshire's decision to employ Andre Adams as a nightwatchman backfired when he edged his third ball to gully. Shafayat survived an appeal for a low catch by Max Waller, the 12th man, at extra cover and then a drop by Wes Durston on 16.
