Chris Woakes showed why many good judges regard him as the discovery of the season by bowling Warwickshire to the second division championship and going on to return career-best figures of six for 68 with an impressive exhibition of seam and swing.
Warwickshire needed only one point to secure the title after picking up three with a first innings total of 315 and Woakes, 19, made short work of the task by taking Glamorgan's first three wickets for six runs in 16 balls.
Before Warwickshire took the field, Ian Salisbury, 38, had been presented with his county cap, in recognition of his all-round contribution in his first season at Edgbaston, 17 years after he was capped by Sussex and ten years after he was capped by Surrey.
In the event, however, he was not required to bowl and it was Woakes, born only a couple of months before Salisbury made his first-class debut, who spearheaded the attack, just as he had done in two of their previous four victories with five-wicket hauls against Glamorgan and Middlesex.
Woakes struck in his third over when he had Gareth Rees well caught low down by Jim Troughton at point. In his next over, he bowled Tom Maynard and had Michael Powell caught at first slip pushing half-heartedly at his fourth ball.
Glamorgan were hurtling towards defeat inside two days when Boyd Rankin and Neil Carter chipped in with a wicket apiece and Woakes claimed his fourth to send them plunging to 43 for six but they were rescued by Jamie Dalrymple, who showed all the qualities that could make him captain next season in succession to David Hemp.
Dalrymple made 92 and dominated a seventh wicket partnership of 106 with Robert Croft, although they would never have got that far but for a remarkable decision by Graham Burgess, standing in his last match as a first-class umpire.
Croft had made only 11 and the stand was worth 59 when Burgess gave him out lbw to Carter but as Croft headed back towards the pavilion Burgess consulted Jeremy Lloyds, his colleague at square leg and reversed his decision.
Croft went on to make 33 before he dragged a ball from Jonathan Trott into his stumps and Dalrymple was trying desperately to reach his second century of the summer when Woakes had him caught at long off to take his tally to 38 wickets at 20 runs apiece in his first season of championship cricket.
