Attend an evening with Andre Agassi

You’ve reached the World Cup final at the fourth attempt. How does it feel?
I was 17 when I played in my first one and it is scary to think that 12 years have passed since. This will be the biggest game of my career.
Why are England so strong in women’s cricket?
Consistency in selection has been the key. Everyone is clear on their roles. We have a strong squad with competition for places. There are a couple of very experienced players in myself and Claire Taylor but mainly we have a young team with no fear of anyone and our spin bowlers, Laura Marsh and Holly Colvin, have bowled extremely well. Batsmen haven’t been able to handle them.
How have the fans in Australia treated you, especially since you are in the final and they aren’t?
Really good — I think they respect us and most will support us against New Zealand.
This year’s World Twenty20 has men’s and women’s events. Which are England more likely to win?
I think we have the best chance, but it would be great if both teams were at Lord’s on finals day on June 21. Andrew Strauss and Rob Key have sent us messages of support for the World Cup final.
You’re defending the Ashes this year but only over one Test match. Is that a good thing?
It would make a fantastic series but getting the time off work is a problem. I love Test cricket but have only played 17 matches in 12 years. We don’t get to practise batting for that long or bowling 20 to 30 overs a day, so for the girls who’ve not played it, it’s quite an experience.
What would you have been if you hadn’t chosen cricket?
That’s tough. I’ve always wanted to be a cricketer and even did my school work experience at Hunts County Bats. I suppose I could have been a policeman. I’ve always been quite nosy.
