Cardiff (third day of four): Derbyshire, with all second-innings wickets in hand, are 91 runs behind Glamorgan
Glamorgan's hopes of pressing on towards their second championship victory - one more than they won all last season - were thwarted, first by an inspired spell of swing bowling by Charl Langeveldt, the South Africa fast-medium bowler, then by rain, which set in at lunchtime and washed out the rest of the day's play.
David Hemp, the Glamorgan captain, fell to the eighth ball of the morning when he was caught at short leg pushing forward to the left-arm spin of Nayan Doshi, but his 104 off 178 balls with a six and 13 fours had put his side in a commanding position.
Jamie Dalrymple and Mark Wallace stretched their lead to 56 but Langeveldt, who had never taken five wickets in an innings in his two previous spells of county cricket with Somerset and Leicestershire, claimed five for 22 in seven overs with the second new ball.
Langeveldt bowled Wallace, Dalrymple and James Harris, had Robert Croft caught behind and David Harrison taken at mid-off. Jonathan Clare chipped in with the wicket of Jason Gillespie and Glamorgan lost their last six wickets for 39.
The ball was spinning as well as swinging and Derbyshire delayed taking the second new ball until the 85th over. They may have regretted that when Langeveldt struck with his first ball, which had Wallace fatefully playing back instead of forward.
Dalrymple was undone by a swinging yorker, Croft could only edge his first ball to the wicketkeeper and Harrison skied a simple catch.
When Derbyshire went in again 95 runs behind, Glamorgan gave the new ball to Harris, celebrating his 18th birthday, and Croft, who is approaching his 38th, but they managed only one over apiece before the rain came.
