THE totesport League trophy was paraded at Sophia Gardens. The rain held off, Alex Wharf bowled brilliantly, but, alas, Adrian Dale’s Glamorgan career came to a sad end when his last ball, the final one of the match, was hit for six by Ian Butler.
Kent lost their upper order for 64 in this match of 25 overs a side. The remaining batsmen did not fare much better and Butler and Robert Joseph still needed 15 off the final over, bowled by Dale. This came down, partly through four byes, to six from the last ball, a leg-side full toss that was belted high over mid-wicket.
Needing 143 to win, Kent started well. Ed Smith’s 36 included six fours, two of them in the first over. Then Wharf struck. He had Smith caught at long leg, David Fulton leg -before and, in one over, bowled both Robert Key and Geraint Jones. In his last over, Michael Carberry and Rob Ferley were caught behind. In 25 balls Wharf took six wickets for four runs and his figures of six for five were the best by a Glamorgan bowler against Kent.
Glamorgan’s innings saw solid knocks from Matthew Elliott and David Hemp, who made 44 and 40 respectively.
