(Day one of four: Glamorgan won toss)
Warwickshire 270 for 7 (TR Ambrose 86 not out, JO Troughton 54, N Carter 42 not out, AJ Shantry 3 for 54).
Lunch
Warwickshire, already assured of promotion and needing only four points to take the second division title, made hard work of it after David Hemp had put them in to bat in what could be his last game as Glamorgan captain.
Adam Shantry, the left arm swing bowler who left Warwickshire for Glamorgan at the end of last season, struck with his fifth ball when he had Navdeep Poonia caught behind off an inside edge and then changed ends to claim Darren Maddy leg before.
Tony Frost and Jonathan Trott dug in to put on 45 in 14 overs before Frost tried to turn Jason Gillespie on the legside and was bowled middle stump, apparently off his glove.
Tea
Shantry picked up his third wicket in his second over after lunch when Trott was caught leg before playing across the line. As the sun came out and batting became easier, however, Jim Troughton and Tim Ambrose put Warwickshire in sight of their first point with a fourth wicket partnership of 101 in 20 overs.
Ambrose cruised past fifty off 45 balls with 10 fours, three of them off successive balls from Gillespie, and Troughton had made 54 off 92 balls when he fell lbw to a ball of full length from David Harrison.
Rikki Clarke went the same way for a duck but Ian Salisbury saw Warwickshire past 200 before he was lbw to Robert Croft’s arm ball and Ambrose was still there at tea with 75.
Close
Warwickshire had their second batting point in the bag by the 70th over but Ambrose’s scoring rate was slowing as he closed in on his first championship century since he made 156 not out against Leicestershire in April.
He should have been out on 85 when he cut Ryan Watkins straight to gully but Michael Powell dropped the catch and he had added only one more when bad light stopped play an hour before the scheduled close.
By then, the eighth wicket had produced 58 in 14 overs, Neil Carter hitting 42 of them off 51 balls with a six and seven fours.
