Brazil reached the final of the Copa America by defeating Uruguay 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after an enthralling semi-final finished two-all. Dunga's side will meet the winner of today's semi-final between Mexico and Argentina.
Doni, the Brazil goalkeeper, clinched the victory by saving Diego Lugano's penalty after the Arsenal midfielder player Gilberto had put his side 5-4 on spot-kicks. The Uruguayan players argued that Doni came off the goal line early but the referee turned away their protests.
Maicon scored the first Brazil goal and set up Julio Baptista for the second that gave them a 2-1 half-time lead. Diego Forlan scored Uruguay's first before Sebastian Abreu levelled in the 70th minute after Cristian Rodriguez's incisive run down the left.
After struggling through the first three group matches and scoring only one goal — the lowest of any of the 12 teams — Uruguay had improved markedly in the quarter-final, eliminating the host side Venezuela 4-1.
However, Brazil also had something to prove in the knockout phase, following their opening 2-0 defeat by Mexico, and did so impressively by thrashing Chile 6-1 before today's victory.
