ARSENE Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has refused to abandon hope of luring former forward Nicolas Anelka back to the Premiership club.
Wenger is keen to re-sign Thierry Henry's predecessor following his departure to Barcelona this summer and is set to tempt Bolton Wanderers with a £10 million bid. Anelka is a target of several leading clubs but the Frenchman would relish the chance to work under Wenger once again.
Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to sign Nery Castillo, the Olympiacos and Mexico forward, in a £10m deal. Eriksson is a known admirer of Castillo's and is convinced he would be a huge success in the Premiership and solve the side's chronic lack of goals.
Chris Hutchings, the Wigan Athletic manager, could turn to Portsmouth outcast Lomano LuaLua having been snubbed by Marlon Harewood.
West Ham United are also keen on signing LuaLua, who has been told he can leave Fratton Park this summer, but Hutchings is desperate to land a new target man and will tempt Portsmouth with an attractive £4m bid.
West Ham, meanwhile, are poised to make a £5m offer for Reading and England defender Nicky Shorey. The left-back has still to agree a new and improved contract with the Royals and West Ham are prepared to double his wages.
Aston Villa want to sign Arsenal defender Justin Hoyte in a £2.5m deal. Martin O'Neill had targeted Luke Young from Charlton Athletic but is not prepared to pay over the odds and believes he can secure Hoyte's services after Arsenal indicated they would be prepared to listen to sensible offers.
Bobby Zamora is ready to quit West Ham for Blackburn Rovers, while DJ Campbell, the Birmingham City forward, is a target of Watford.

I am not a fan of Anelka and will never be... Why would Arsenal waste money on a striker who will be finished pretty soon,,,, I think Arsene Wenger should continue in the light os bringing young players who have 6-7 years more to contribute effectively. I am an ardent fan of this club and would prefer Martins from Newscastle.

I believe Arsene got a reason 4 wanting Anelka back.
Anelka fits on Arsenal type of play and on top of that
they really need exprince to blend in with youth

As a Bolton Fan if Arsenal think they are going to bag Anelka for £10 million they are having a laugh! If Darren Bent is worth £17 million then Anelka is worth what?
Andrew Parkes, York,
I like the attitude of Marty, I hope all gooners think the same because this season under Sammy Lee who wants to play football the right way Le Sulk will bag a pan full for the trotters

Arsenal should put a serious talk with Bolton to bring back Anelka. The inform striker will be one of the MAN TO WATCH this season...

I beg Wenger not to sell off Hoyte. He has a promising future at Arsenal.

Surely, as an Arsenal fan, I'm not alone in being on the brink of outrage at the merest suggestion of the return of the incredible sulk.
Of all the players likely to induce rioting in the red half of north london, Anelka is surely top of the list!
I would genuinely prefer to see one Edward Sheringham in red & white, which speaks volumes.

About Nery Castillo's transfer here in Greece, some people believe that since his gilfriend is pregnant and he is thinking very seriously of getting married, he will ask the Olympiakos Board to stall on any offer for some time, although the Olympiakos Board would be very keen to cash in about 10 million Euro.
There are some rumors that Nery will take 25% of the transfer fee, due to his contract with Olympiakos, and the board of the team are not set for less than 12 million going to Olympiakos.
